in Black Mesa Christmas Media Release Post #241988
Shit I thought the mod had died, good news!
What blasphemy is this? You should know better. Black Mesa has a very strong team, and they are constantly adding to it.
I wish their models kept the sculptural aesthetic they had before they got textured.
The textureless renders are the multimillion-polygonal meshes used for baking normal maps. If you don't take my word, maybe you'll take the modeller's word in the BM forums. The textured ones obviously aren't. By the way, the garg has been skinned and up on the website for a while now. Haven't you been checking?

in half life dedicated server Post #241697
There's a Steamless version of the dedicated server that you can find pretty much anywhere, by the way (fileplanet, filefront, rapidshare, etc). That's what I used for a few years before stopping server hosting all together.
It'd be better to go Steamless in this case. Then you don't have to leave Steam up 24/7, and you don't have to resart your server every time Steam updates.

in Door with multiple closing times Post #241696
Well you could take complicated route and substitute a door with a func_train that switches from a track with a 10 second delay to a track with a 4 second delay [via trigger_changetarget].
Triggered ambient_generics with door sounds would be placed near the train for full effect.

Halo is always going to be bigger than half life.
This almost offends me. Almost.
Halo is only bigger than Half Life because it came out as a launch game for the Xbox. It showed off how powerful the Xbox was and turned out to be the only thing worth buying on a near dead-on-arrival system. That's the only reason it ever got as popular as it is today. It was all in the timing.
If Halo were released as "just another PC game" like Half Life, it would never have reached the kind of mind-boggling publicity it gets now. Halo is a fun game, that's a no brainer. But there is nothing remotely revolutionary about any of the Halo games, thus not warranting it such popularity. It just doesn't deserve it.

Half Life did it first; Half Life did it better.

I don't think it should be allowed for people to only vote for one thing, and nothing else. If you think about it, it really offsets the vote with people doing that, because it neglects any maps that might be in, say, second place from getting any points at all!
Then I'll add four more votes for you. No map votes from me. Only mods.

1. Timefall
2. Uplink Extended
3. Minimicus
4. Starwars
5. HLywood

Orb was insane, but it didn't leave a lasting impression.

Well whatever is next, it won't be called HL3. Doug Lombardi has said many times, in many interviews, that the Episodes, combined, are what Valve would have called HL3. Hopefully the saga won't be condemned to shitty spinoffs after the Episodes.

O lawd. I would be amazed if CS lasts another 20 years. And it's not the most played game. WoW is sitting on that throne. CS is just number 1 in the online action department, but WoW is, and has been, dominating the overall online market.

I'll get some screenshots of a clan map I'm making for Christmas sometime soon.

There is a texture specifically called "origin". Including it with any entity will make the entity use the center of the origin brush as it's origin, instead of the map's origin.

Decompile and check. But I've never had any problems with scripted_sequences. Nor have I ever seen an NPC simply stop moving toward their goal in HL, which is surprising considering the amount of time's I've played the game.

One of my roommate's got Crysis [downloaded it, really]. I have to say, watching him play it kinda lowered my expectations, should I play it myself. The game really seemed to lack depth. It's all combat without reason.

PS: Daubster, caps lock is the cruise control for cool.

in Monsters don't follow path_corner Post #241149
For the record, path_corners are probably the absolute worst way to go if you want a monster to follow a path. Sure, they're easy to work with, but they're also easy to break.
If anything, anything gets in their way at any point down the road, they stop moving. At that point, you won't be able to get them moving again.

Learn to use scripted_sequences, they are much more powerful. It might seem overwhelming at first, but it pays off soon enough.

Things like that can happen when you have brushes with sub-unit verticies. This generally happens if you randomly clip peices off of a brush or if you carve brushes with pretty much anything but a square or rectangle.

Check all the vertices on that brush with the grid set to 1 unit, and if anything is off, use vertex manipulation to put the vertices back on the grid.

As for the vis, you probably just have a leak.

Edit: Make sure you haven't accidentally hidden any brushes, too.

Don't let a vehicle blow up with you in it, otherwise you won't leave a body on the ground; dead allies can be revived by engineers without using respawn tickets.

in Empires Beta 2.0 Post #240401
Beta 2 was released November 30th. It's superior to the previous, shitty betas. It's awesome.

If you've never heard of Empires:
Empires is a mod for Half-Life 2 which will combine the genres of real-time strategy and first person shooter. Each team has four classes to choose from (scout, rifleman, grenadier, and engineer) with unique weapons and skills each. One player will become the commander by entering the team's command vehicle to build the team's base and lead his team to victory. Once your base is built up, purchase vehicles from your team's vehicle factory to open up another facet of Empires' gameplay. Vehicles can be customized with unique weapons, armor, and engines. The commander can research improvements to all aspects of vehicles such as longer range cannons, homing missiles, and armor-piercing machine gun rounds. Once your team is prepared, lead an assault into the enemy base. The enemy team is defeated when all players are wiped out with either no place to respawn or no reinforcements remaining or the team's command vehicle is destroyed.
Think Natural Selection on a grand scale. Like, Battlefield scale.

1.6 is available Steamless (illegally of course). You will have to do some special searching because contemporary searches won't give you what you want. And anyway, you can't play it online. So unless you're content with playing bots for hours on end, I wouldn't even bother.

You people and your furries.
Awesome concept art. The first one looks a lot like Valve's concept for a Combine supersoldier. Still awesome.

You should jack up your renders, by the way. The modelling is great, but such a simple render ruins them :(
