nothing is compiled with rad or vis yet, just for fyi. I mean, some maps are with rad/vis but most aren't, and or have big blocks covering major areas of the map for quick-compile test purposes. Muzz is handling the final compile, but you're free to browse around! =)

Cstriker: your map will not make version 1.0, but it will be in version 2.0, also including maps from possibly Urby, Daubster, and more.

Everyone: All out there still wanting to submit a map to rooms, remember, there is no deadline, i will ALWAYS accept new entries, and simply release a new version. Nothing more will be accepted for version 1.0 tho..

I have a map where you're walking down a hallway to some doors, and you can hear music in the distance(ambient generic set to medium radius, volume 5).

When you open the doors to the dancefloor at the end of the hallway, i want the music to increase, as you would expect it too if you're opening a door with loud music behind it. I mean, i can just have the doors trigger on another ambient generic, but the music won't sync up with what's already playing... any ideas anyone?

Pandorum: Didn't like it, but i have very high expectations for this type of film. All the monster-creatures look like Ed Begley JR... =P

Surrogates: Highly disappointing... =(

Oh and ponyo is, well.. let's just say it's not my style of movie and i didn't enjoy it. I kinda feel the same about 9 as in the story being very pointless, but i'll shut up about it since most people seemed to enjoy it. I certainly enjoyed animation tho, even if they jacked the monster-machines from the matrix.. = )

Anyone know how to make func_waters not glow for a dark map? I find with rendermode set to texture, any renderfx amount above 40 or so makes the water glow bright, which is not desirable for what i'm trying to do.

I've tried dicking with the minimum light level to no avail...

well your subway light is set to a brightness of 8000, which is super high imo, but it may be the way you want it. just lemme know =)

DiscoStu: your map will only open in hammer for me under "counter-strike" config fsr. (raver's map is like this for me too). I've tried copy/pasting into a new .rmf but it will still only open under counter-strike.

What is casusing this exactly? (anyone?) is it something in the worldspawn entity that's causing it to be seen as a cs map? how do i edit this anybody know?

JeffMod: I'm sending you a link of your map attached to world crafter's map. pm me if you want any changes, as your lighting is pretty crazy imo.. = )

that's what i was going to recommend. Also, a single "leaf-saw" error will cause brushes to sporadically become invisible as well. So obviously, finding and eliminating these if you have any might fix the problem.

Also, I've found the latest SHLT tools to be especially good at zapping/fixing those nasty leaf-saw thingies... i don't think i've had one show up in my compile log since using the super half-life tools.

I'm new to source mapping, but i just found Hammer 4 remembers selections! (as in, if you spend a bunch of time ctrl-selecting brushes and accidentally cancel it, simply ctrl-z should return your selecion group!!)

Steps to make a really dark map:
-if you have a light environment, turn it down way low or eliminate it completely

-use low value texlights instead of point lights. darker colors like read are going to need higher radiosity values to show up just as bright colors like white need much lower values to show the same brightness.

keep in mind brush-based entities with the "additive" render property will give off light, so having a lot of these or a big area of one in your map will make it look brighter than normal. (other brush-based entities render properties might cause the brush to give off light as well--i don't really know-, but keep it in mind as a possibility, just in case your map turns out too bright)

check out BJ's tutorial on how to make textlights blink, flicker and do other things normally reserved for point lights, as this should be perfect for a disco map =)

DiscoStu: SORRY! I just played your map and it is really cool! Seems very well made, and i like the lighting effects on the floor and the disco glitter ball...Nice small detailing as well throughout.. can't wait to see the finished product!

WOW Striker, that map is absolutely amazing, as in:

The only problem is it is WAY moar than one room. Maybe you could pic a portion of the map to include in the project? Alternatively, we might offer theis map as a "bonus feature" or some such in it's full form as well. (btw. was that big spiral thing made with a terrain generator or by hand?! that thing is friggin impressive and i can't believe it has no visual errors in the game!! = 0)

Wow i forgot about this since it was so long ago, and i never posted my solution!
After initially starting each camera, you may need to trigger each camera again to turn it off before triggering it back on again.
Slayer A (and tetsu0 really) had the right idea. "calling" the present camera a second time--in effect, shutting it down--, before starting the next camera was the key!

Tetsu0: I used trigger_relays at first, but found just calling them again via the multimanger alone did the trick, so i eliminated the relays. (that's not to say that a situation wouldn't arise where you may have to use a relay to do it tho)

Srry: thanks and you're right. I use a func_wall_toggle, black textured box for just that purpose! =)

Update.

Here is a complete download of the mod for rooms authors only, without rad or vis(the "menu" map has full vis and rad). these were used to mostly test the audio commentary. without vis and rad, some of the doors/buttons are invisible, but you can get past that by noclipping through the doors. Password is the same as previous rooms beta stuff.

still to do:

-update jeffmod's first room
-integrate jeffmod's second map
-integrate discoStu's map
-create audio commentary for jeffmod v2 map
-create audio commentary for discoStu's map

Atom: as soon as the above are complete, i'll send you a link to the complete package. If you want to start compiling everthing but "rooms" and "rooms8" (both those maps still need to be edited), be my guest.

pretty cool! I think the story started out really strong/good, but has degraded in quality a bit since the beginning. It's still pretty good tho, are these all first-draft stuff? (if they are they are really good)

you can't compile decompiled stuff afaik... if you really like the design of this, you could just rebuild it with normal brushes, or you'd be better off imo building something with far-simpler architecture, and using 1 or 2 custom textures to make it look good.

yeah i think killtarget permanently gets rid of it. maybe if you use multisources in the master field instead of using the killtarget fields, it might work. I recently used 2 func_doors and multisource, essentially making a toggleable multisource like this:

i have a button that targets a mm that targets 4 func_doors, which their own target fields target a desired action, but i only wanted 1 to work at once and at the desired time. in essence, only the func_door with the active multisource (targeted by a second func_door) will fire. this second func_door targeting the multisource must be reset with a trigger_relay after operation, or it won't work right.

1. I created a multisource(4 really). A button targets a mm which targets a func_door1(4 of them really) which targets my desired action, and i put the name of the multisource(again 4, one for each door) in the master field of of func_door1.

2. i have another func_door set to toggle, func_door2 that targets the multisource. this way, door1 will only open if door2 is active. I used trigger_relay to reset the func_door 2 upon activation, thereby giving a toggleable multisource.

I don't understand exactly what you want to do, but mabye the above setup will give you an idea on another thing to try? i hope this is clear enough and makes some sense! good luck!

changes:
-the menu system is nearly bulletproof in operation (i found lots of bugs since the last update..), and is complete except some small further add-ons.
-started the teleport/trigger_changelevel process, but it's not working yet...(if somoeone could take a look at this portion i'd be grateful.

Still to do for the rest of the project:

-finish/changeup? exit menu
-credit reel.(list is written i just have to map it)
-finish "play" menu
-add rest of commentary(me through hotdog are done)
-send it off to muzz for final full compile, with his own personal tweaks using compilator and shlt tools
-beta test
-release!

HOPEFULLY not much longer now. Jeez, if i'd have known it would take this long to finish, i'd have NEVER announced the final release so soon!

fix:

Complicated shapes for clipbrushes are causing the problem. and seem to bugger otherwise normal clipbrushes around them! if i stick to simpler cubish shapes, i have no problem!

i'm finding my clip brushes are failing in areas, no matter how i reshape them or delete and rebuild. i don't have any errors, but my planes (using the -chart command) say i'm at 96%.

Could that be the cause, and if so how do i eliminate some planes?

I've also tried using different cliptypes, with no change. I've had this type of problem with leaf-saw errors, but never with a clip brush and i don't have even a single leaf-saw error.. = (

1. make a texture that says "insert keycard". add the +A prefix to whatever your calling the door texture, aka:

+Akeycard_door

2. make the "keycard accepted" texture. add the +0 prefix to it, or:

+0keycard_door

That covers the texture and naming convention. as far as how you want it to handle triggering the texture change, there are many ways you can go about this... one way:

1. make the "console" a func_wall and give it a name, say:

CONSOLE1

Give your door a name, like: DOOR1

i'm assuming your "keycard" will be in the form of an invisible button? if so, have the button target a multi_manager called DOOR1_MM or whatever you like, with the properties:

targetname DOOR1_MM
CONSOLE 0.01
DOOR 1.0

(enter any delay for the door to open after the sign pops up or none at all and make the door and console both activate at 0.01 or whatev.
