After seeing the credits I think that they're very well done. I especially liked the loading screen.

Update.

Here is a complete download of the mod for rooms authors only, without rad or vis(the "menu" map has full vis and rad). these were used to mostly test the audio commentary. without vis and rad, some of the doors/buttons are invisible, but you can get past that by noclipping through the doors. Password is the same as previous rooms beta stuff.

still to do:

-update jeffmod's first room
-integrate jeffmod's second map
-integrate discoStu's map
-create audio commentary for jeffmod v2 map
-create audio commentary for discoStu's map

Atom: as soon as the above are complete, i'll send you a link to the complete package. If you want to start compiling everthing but "rooms" and "rooms8" (both those maps still need to be edited), be my guest.

The MV entry for my first rooms should have an attached WAD, let me know if I need to upload it somewhere else for you.

But there is a problem : I have lots of custom sounds for it. It's my map dedication for muzzleflash(now atom) for giving me hl2dm. I has an entry an exit anyway. It's just one map.

I'd better just give it to you to integrate it into the project, I can't map for hl1 anymore anyway until I'll get an Nvidia Card. Best of all : my map is extra-full of special effects.

As long as it works in Vanilla HL and has all the custom textures with it, it shouldn't be a problem.

Ok, I'm happy now :). My a lot of work won't go to trash now. But it's 2:17 am and I feel like already dreaming...
So I'll post my work tomorrow ( completed by a already compiled bsp :D).

By vanilla HL you mean ... pure HL ? In that case, no problemo.

[EDIT] At least, Muzz(Atom... but I like calling him muzz :D) will feel special about this :D

The only problem is that ... it's not only a room :\.... there different rooms with different trance tracks and special effects. Interconnected by hallways. So I hope it will include my map.

Have you played the map ? :P, the areas where special effects are not present are the areas you can cut or something like that, but please, make those areas with music and disco available for walking :P

The only problem is it is WAY moar than one room. Maybe you could pic a portion of the map to include in the project? Alternatively, we might offer theis map as a "bonus feature" or some such in it's full form as well. Let's talk about it over pm we'll figure something out, but i really want to include this in rooms!

(btw. was that big spiral thing made with a terrain generator or by hand?! that thing is friggin impressive and i can't believe it has no visual errors in the game!! = 0)

But I didn't post it here, I pm-ed it to Captain Terror. You'll play the map anyway when the project will be finished.
From my discussions with cp, it seems that most of it will be offered as a bonus map and only a part of it will be used in the actual "rooms".

Btw, where do I apply to get my password to playtest the thing now? :P

Edit: I don't know what to do with the lights. A month ago, it looked awesome in my good ole 10-year-old CRT. It was losing its focus pretty badly so I got me an LCD before my sight got fucked up. With the new monitor, it looks very, very, very bright even if I lower the light values. What does everyone do in these cases? I'm confused :(

Steps to make a really dark map:
-if you have a light environment, turn it down way low or eliminate it completely

-use low value texlights instead of point lights. darker colors like read are going to need higher radiosity values to show up just as bright colors like white need much lower values to show the same brightness.

keep in mind brush-based entities with the "additive" render property will give off light, so having a lot of these or a big area of one in your map will make it look brighter than normal. (other brush-based entities render properties might cause the brush to give off light as well--i don't really know-, but keep it in mind as a possibility, just in case your map turns out too bright)

check out BJ's tutorial on how to make textlights blink, flicker and do other things normally reserved for point lights, as this should be perfect for a disco map =)

DiscoStu: your map will only open in hammer for me under "counter-strike" config fsr. (raver's map is like this for me too). I've tried copy/pasting into a new .rmf but it will still only open under counter-strike.

What is casusing this exactly? (anyone?) is it something in the worldspawn entity that's causing it to be seen as a cs map? how do i edit this anybody know?

JeffMod: I'm sending you a link of your map attached to world crafter's map. pm me if you want any changes, as your lighting is pretty crazy imo.. = )

well your subway light is set to a brightness of 8000, which is super high imo, but it may be the way you want it. just lemme know =)

Counter-strike? That's strange, I don't even have a CS config in Hammer. I used Hammer 3.5 and the 3.5 FGD. What happens if you open it as HL?

Well, I'd love to see it, but HL crashes without an error every time I try to open it. Just PM me a screenshot with a screen of c2a5 or some other distinctive HL map as a brightness reference.

did you update your rooms.wad, replacing those dam 640x480 textures? those are the only thing i can thing to cause it to crash....

Replaced the textures. Still crashes without an error.
Just PM me a screenshot of the places you're unsure of and a reference screen from the c1a0 lobby or something, Sorry you have to do this... :(

640x480 textures? those are the only thing i can thing to cause it to crash....
That's the problem. 512*512 is the absolute max. Higher resolution textures crash the game.

nothing is compiled with rad or vis yet, just for fyi. I mean, some maps are with rad/vis but most aren't, and or have big blocks covering major areas of the map for quick-compile test purposes. Muzz is handling the final compile, but you're free to browse around! =)

Here's the preview i promised for room's authors. the pass is the same as the other rooms stuff.

rooms version 1

MuzzAtom is doing final compile now. there are some issues with the last map which i will address over the next day or so, and send Atom the updated rooms010.rmf. (there is a problem with the disco music drowning out the commentary and also, when the map ends, it's supposed to return you to the menu map, tho this doesn't always happen fsr.

Known issues so far:
-dying on certain maps will crash the game.
-dying when audio commentary is going will end that room's commentary, but it will resume on the next map.
-there are some lighting discrepancies from one level to another. i've tried to fix them the best i can, but some are still pretty noticable
-this quick vis/rad version has some lighting glitches that shouldn't show up after final compile.

I've just downloaded the version from the latest post. I have to say I have 2 gripes already.

First, never EVER include a config.cfg file with a mini-mod. The config file that came with this version is the absolute worse control setup I've ever experienced.

ASDF for movement keys!? WTF!?

File was promptly deleted.

Second, of the 90MB download, 30MB was the disco music...why?

Anywho, gonna try and actually play now.

After 3 or 4 download attempts (the download kept cutting off short) I finally got it... I think.

General notes: This is looking good. I love the menu, although I couldn't get the audio commentary to work. On a second thought, maybe there isn't one - I haven't found anything commentary-related in the downloaded files. That, or the download stopped too early again.

Mapping notes: Jeff's new old room (1st Jeff's) looks much more interesting now. I've noticed there is a very misaligned texture in his second room. Also, where is Striker's room? It appears in the credits but after leaving my room, I get teleported back to the first room.

Remember to have the hatch before room 5 open the other way so it doesn't get in the way. And the little hallway before room 7 could use more clip.

And now I'll try to get something useful done in Hammer before the day is over.

yeah, that's one of my pet peeves too, but i forgot, a new config.cfg is created everytime you play the game... I'll make sure it does not appear in
future versions! = )

you are clicking on the "audio commentary" menu item, and then clicking(shooting) "confirm" for "play rooms with audio commentary"?

I wonder how many improvements CT made to version 2... I made a some improvements in V2, including his old ones, but he's probably added more...
