I would like to keep releasing for testing purposes but also i don't want to have a set deadline because many people here (including myslef) don't work well with deadlines. = )

However if the majority of the group thinks we should not release the mappack until it's completely finished, i'll go with that.

If you guys give me some feedback, i can adjust the current version. I still have things to add to may map like sprites and some lighting effects, plus maybe a little geometry. Plus i can edit the connecting hallway to the author's liking. (tunnels connecting your room to the next guy)

I'm using 3.5. I thought you said you were too busy before to do compiles so i'm still doin it. I'd still like to compile/release each time a new map is submitted, thats why i keep posting updated releases.

If you want to do the final compile or help out with subsequent compiles that would be great. = ) I'm gonna work on adding Tetsu0's and Rim's maps now...

Raver: source files are now available if you want to try recompiling your section. I compiled your section on fast vis btw, is that why it looks bad? also, what are your RAD settings?

raver: yeah i dunno i never had a problem editing a cs map in HL before... it must be something on my end. check your map to see if it looks ok will you?

try the new download, cuz when i just posted that link i found i forgot to upload the textures,models, sound, sprites, and sky :{. Did the download you got have the models and sprites folders included?

Today, i will try to add Rimrook and Tetsu0's maps. Everyone keep in mind you can update your map whenever and post a new link in here, and i'll make the adjustments as soon as possible.

Just for Fyi i'm going to have to find new hosting as my measly 100MB on googlepages is officially used up. (feel free to mention good free hosting you may know of ;) )

Raver: if you make another map please do it in HL not CS. (if that's what you did, because i could only open using cs config no matter how i fussed with the map properties) Anyway, it was worth the trouble because that map is REALLY good. My fav is how real the fountain looks; btw what is the func_conveyor outside the map? I left it in for the compile, does it teleport in to the map somehow? (since i found no leaks with an entity brush outside) = )

ATDestroy: Yeah you can make anything you want. And take your time there is no time limit. = P

Muzz: Thanks for editing Raver's map (although i integrated his level last night) believe it or not, that map even u edited STILL WILL NOT open under HL config for me.... So if that opens for u fine it must be something with my config somewhere?

The brushes outside my map are just prefabs. You can delete them if you end up doing any compiliing.

Tried that and something i raver's map will not allow me to do it. I also changed the fgd to hl while editing and it still makes no difference. oh well i'll just edit it in cs, and hopefully the changelevel to rim's map will work ok... (trying it now).

Wow looks pretty cool so far! Nice blend of curvy and angular. I must say again i'm very happy with the turnout for this project... it's very a-nice... = )

raver: did you make your map under a cs configuration? I can open it under cs, but under hl config it crashes my hammer. I don't think i've ever had this problem opening a cs map in under HL config before, but who knows?

I'll try porting it should be ok. Has anyone else ever had this problem before?

Um, they were in the latest version of rooms that i posted. Get them also here.

And what whos map is counter-strike? ravers? Even if they made it in cs it's going to be recompiled in HL anyway, so it shouldn't be a big problem unless their map is dependant on cs-only entities. (right?)

If you were able to open his map, pleez try editing it a little, save, and post me a link if you don't mind. Hopefully then, whatever is the odd glitch is that's preventing me from opening his map might be gone?

That's ok, but could someone at least download raver's entry and try opening the .rmf? If you can, maybe if you make a slight edit and save, and my hammer will be able to open it? (i have no idea why my hammer crashes when i try to load his map.)

I'm experimenting with textlights for ep2, and the lighting looks great(plus i like the added shadow and hdr options)but the texture faces themselves don't show any light.

Is there anyway to make the faces show like as they did in goldsource? I fiddled with "minimum light level" and other stuff but to know avail. I'm going to try some render options next?

I read everything i could find on lights.rad, but i'd appreciate any tips anybody might have on their configuration and use... (I heavily depended on texture lighting for goldsource)

There is so much good stuff in here it's hard to know where to begin, but i'll try:

Rim: looks good as usual, but there is something about NS textures that always came off as artificial to me though i can't say what aspect... I think you're right in saying your own textures would be much better.

Those portable platforms are quite neat too. Do they unfold or materialize via some neat animation sorcery? = )

HrnyPirate: Looks pretty neat. I like the interiors and anticipate seeing you add some furnishings. The dam looks quite promising as well.

Azura: That looks breathtaking. = 0 It reminds me of a casino, high-class hotel or corporate office, wow...

raver: as previously stated that looks amazing, especially how quick you made them map.

seth: Looks great and very detailed, if not a bit gloomily dark.

Oh so if there closer up to the skybrush you'll still see them, is that what you mean?

I'm working on my rooms:source map tonight. I can't continue with raver's map because i can't open the .rmf, but it think Muzz is going to take care of that issue as well the final compile of the whole project. (muzz can you confirm if you're going to take care of the integration of raver's map, and/or if you can open his source file?)

As soon as raver's map is included, it'll be Rimrook's room that goes next. The current order is:

Captain Terror
JeffMod
Hlife_hotdog
Raver
Rimrook

With more maps soon to come by:

SpaG
Urbanebula

And possibly more from:
TJB
srry
potatis
Muzz?
moar?...

If all those people submit those maps we'll have over 10 rooms in no time and beat the Rooms:S to the 10-room mark! Get Crackin Slackers! = P

I doublechecked too, sprinting works when i play ep2, but not in ep2 maps that I make... anyone know why?

I got my first map to compile with lights. = )

5.This next is a piddly-sounding question but i must ask: Walking is really slow and the sprint button doesn't seem to have any effect... is there an option to walk all the time that's on or sprinting is disabled? (when i played the beginning of ep2, sprinting worked afaik.

6. What are .prt and .vmx files? do i need to save them for anything when archiving backup versions of my map projects?

It works for cs afaik. For cs, whatever is in <mapname>.txt will show up on the objectives screen.

I've just started mapping for ep2 and i have so many questions. Here are a couple:

1. I just made a map for episode two, and tried to open the console once at the splash screen to load my map, but the console doesn't pop up when i hit the tilda key. How do i achieve this?

2. I have textures.wad loaded in hammer 3.5 currently. What texture wads are good some good standard wads to load for ep2 mapping?

3. Do you guise use GUI to compile or is it fine to use the base hammer compiler? Same questions for ep2 compile tools.

4.If anyone knows of a good, tutorial geared for goldsource mappers making the transition to source, pleez let me know! = )

K pengy i've done that but is there a way to force hl2 to open in my native resolution? (1400x900) HL2 defaults to 1024x768 and it borks my whole desktop when i try to load HL2--which i just took 5 minutes moving all my icons back :<

I checked my nvida settings but i didn't see anything to force 3d applications to load in my native resolution, but please let me know if you know a way.

edit: k since i have orange box i do have ep1 and ep2, so i guess it should edit under my Orange Box steam account? (I can't seem to load HL2 for sum reason... it just sits at the loading screeen forever, but i guess if we're mapping for ep2 i don't really need HL2 at all? (I just playtest my maps in ep2 i'm noobishly assuming. I've only ever mapped for CS:S and HL1 so i have no idea what i'm doing)

I've tried loading HL2 for the first time on my Orange box account and it's been 10-15 minutes and it's still not ready! = 0. (How long does it usually take you guys for HL2 loading screen to load? is there something wrong with my setup maybe?)

I can run cs:s, ep1, ep2, Portal, TF2, and they all load within 20 seconds or so, but HL2 just refuses to startup! helpie?

About the full vis and hiding stuff. You cant actually ... full vis just change the distance the brushes are visable.
dude i'm telling you, look at the rmf and play the map: it's unhanged, and you can't see either map through jeffmod's ceiling anymore. As Muzz said, you can hide structures behind skybrushes with full vis, the Rooms map proves it ;)

Muzz: sure that sounds great = ) For starters see if you can integrate raver's map for me(cuz i can't open the rmf fsr). copy and paste ravers map into "rooms1.rmf" and connect to the mineshaft hallway provided. You'll also have to edit the first map ("rooms.rmf"} and add ravers door to the end of the mineshaft.

If you want to do subsequent compiles from now on that's fine with me, awesome actually! = )

SpaG: take your time, you'll still have your map in before Urby, aww.. = )

Urby: you better not welch i'll come to London Towne and hunt you down :badass:

that problem is addressed in the current version. I just used full vis, and as Muzz said, full vis allows you to hide stuff behind sky brushes. Thanks to Muzz! = )

if you look at this version you'll notice your room will connect via changelevel. Like i said before i may do this for every map as the lighting from one rooms seems to impact others close by, as well as that weird custom appearance flicker/textlight error.

I have your content included with the download and the changelevel and connecting hallway is done, i just need an .rmf i can open.

God what do you mean it's an awesome map why would i not want to use it?! Are you serious? = O

I've already added your content to group, i just need a .rmf i can open or if i can't open maybe someone else can add your map for me. Maybe someone else can try to open raver's .rmf to see if it's my machine/setup that is the problem?)

For amusement purposes only, here is the 2nd release of rooms with updated hallways and some bugs fixed. (Please let me know of any other bugs/problems you find)

Urb: I'll check out the hl_tree.mdl thingie. I was aware of the other issue and that will be addressed in the next version. I might end up breaking up levels into there own bsps for a couple reasons, one is that bright light from one room bleeds into the room next to it, and very weirdly, lights i set to flicker (using custom appearance) in the very last room, made textlights in the very first room flicker as well fsr! = )

raver: as i mentioned earlier i can't open your .rmf so you need to supply me with a different one!

Nice Raver where's the link? = )

I'm compiling the first release now with my mine, jeffmod and Hlife_hotdog's maps.

hlife_hotdog: that map is amazing, and you really push the limits on a single room but that map is amazing so i will not nitpick. It does make you wonder about what the definition of one room is tho ;)

JeffMod: your map is in but you might want to update the gameplay a little to make it a little more easy or coherent, or you can leave it too = )

K for latecomers and oldcomers alike, some tips to making your room easier for me to add:

1. Try to make it as close to one single room as possible. Liberties and exceptions will be aloud so don't worry too hard about this rule, but try to keep it close to a single room as possible.

2. The room must have one entrance and one exit door. Please make them functioning func_doors or func_door_rotating or whatev, or else i'll make them open with my own interpretation = )

3. Remember, you can always edit and resubmit your map, so don't feel you have to get it perfect before you submit!
That's all i can think of get those maps in = )

i was thinking i would just keep updating/compiling new maps as they come, and posting a link to the most current compilation each time. Maybe after a while of no one submitting i'll put the official download in the vault?
