the only reason i ever read mapping references these days, if not for help with a specific entity, is simply to see the mapping process through someone else's eyes.

Often i'll see little tricks here and there that i just wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

A book like the HL2 modding for dummies just wouldn't get any use from me.

yeah, and the Pitch Yaw Roll property edit is much improved.

To be honest, no major differences, but enough to make your mapping experience that little bit more enjoyable.

Ugh, i had this ages ago.. can't remember how i resolved it. I think there was an option somewhere in the 2D views tab...

To be honest, i'd use this as an excuse to upgrade to Hammer 3.5

MOD Half-Life: Hostage Situation - Umm. yeah.. approaching its third birthday. What's fun about HS' history, is looking back at the ex-team who never made it to the finishing line (which i am confident the current team will do)
There was coldfeet, who was heavily active, then suddenly left TWHL for 2 years. He returned for a week about 2 months ago.
Mercenary, who.. well, he sucked at mapping.
Saco, who.. i dunno.. I think he just wanted to concentrate on Xen Assault.
Unbreakable, who was an asshole who decided that he wasnt working on it anymore, but failed to tell me for at least 3 months.

MAP SERIES 5 Ways To Die: The Series - Complete. The first one was appauling.. Like shockingly bad, yet i dont think any of my other maps aquired so many downloads. The puzzle-ish theme really seems to appeal to gamers. The second one sucked too. Meh. But i like the third one. I'm tempted to remake the originalsl, then release it as a Re-mastered pack or something. Think Star Wars.

MOD Half-Life: Gyradell Invasion - Inspired by Rimrook's Gyradell theme, this mod was all i worked on for.. oh, 3 months? It's not dead... But simply on hold as HS rounds the last corner.

MOD HL: Event Horizon (mapper) - A source mod that sucked balls because the leader was an idiot.

Jed's modelviewer is specifically for HL and it's mods. GCFscape is for anything that uses a GCF or PAK3 file.

It's pretty obvious which is better suited for HL related matters.

Just make sure that the .wad is in the mod your mapping for's folder, and that hammer is pointing to it, and nowhere else on your hard drive.

Could someone inform me, or direct me to a tutorial which explains how to get a sequential camera monitor working, like in Nova Prospekt.

So a monitor and screen i can do, and i know the camera entity, but if i want say, 4 cameras to be viewable from the same monitor at the press of a button, how would i go about doing it.

I'm having real trouble explaining this one, so i hope you'll understand what i mean.

yeah, i mean we've got 6 people, each of whom will only have contributed 17% of the total mod.

So they've got a lot of other things to check when they play through it.
I dont think we specifically need beta testers.

We also have all the extra limb members of the team who will probably end up playing the internal release as well, namely Habboi, Rimrook, Pepper & Urby.

And i dont know about the rest of the team, but i've been letting my RL friends play my WIPs, so they point out things as well, and i get to see how the chapter might be played from the perspective of someone who didn't make it. It's terribly difficult not to point out the sollution to a puzzle to them.

http://hunter.weebitmagic.com/images/grrrruuuuugh.jpg

So basically none of the materials in that folder work. At all.
Like, they just dont show up in hammer under any game configuration. No pick checkered boxes or error messages.. Just dont appear.

They were made in exactly the same way that i make all my other textures, using the photoshop .vtf plugin, and i used a previously made (and working) .vmt as a template for the .vmts.

Any clues?

Edit:

hahaha. Saw it when i clicked on the link to check it worked.

Some important matters:
IT IS NECCISARY FOR THE WHOLE TEAM TO READ THE FOLLOWING POINTS:

? For media, please use Rimrook's beautiful logo in one of the corners of the picture, and post it on ModDB as well as TWHL.

? This is set post-HL1, remember? Aliens exist. Vortigaunts are still enemies, though, because of... urm.. hmm.. Time distortion fields.. Yep, that'll do.. Time distortion fields which result in them still recieving Nihialinth's brain altering voodoo.. or something.
But i can't stress this enough - Humans are the main aspect of this mod. Aliens should only be used for variation, and should NOT play a large part in your maps. No Gargs, no snarks, no hornet gun, no tentacles.

? This is an abandoned nuclear warhead storage facility for christ's sake. Abandoned being the correct word. I dont want to see halways with shiney bright working labs behind every door. Take my security room for example - as srry pointed out, it's just a bunch of mainframes jumbled in with a load of uncovered wires and a desk thrown in for good measure.
The terrorists have had the base under control for some time, okay, but not enough to have a black-mesa style lab operation.

? This is our mod. Share with each other please. If you dont have some means of contacting every single member of the team, then get one. If need be communicate via PMs, but DO communicate.
the main .wad is getting updated all the time. You guys need to ask for it, and for textures needed on a regular basis. If you dont think you can make a good enough texture, then ask someone on the team who can.

? For those of you who are making your own textures, please save them in a wad called "hostage-situation(chapternumber).wad" so for example - hostage-situation5.wad and prefix all your textures with the title "hs_" (e.g. hs_bookpwn8)

? Aim to finish by September. That is realistic at this point for everyone except perhaps Kasperg. But that's ok, because he doesn't map to realistic standards anyway. I expect he's probably done double what i've done in 2 years already.

? NAME YOUR MAPS SENSIBLY. in order: prefix-chapter-map (hs5a, hs5b, hs5c, hs6a etc etc etc)

? If you dont think you're going to accomplish your task in this mod, then tell me now. I, and everyone else who has hope for HS am sick and tired of time waisters. If you're not going to do the job, then fuck off.

? Get used to posting media regularly. I seem to be the only one posting pictures of my maps. Why is this? Get mapping, get compiling, get screenshotting.

? If you have a particular question about how a part of your map should look in accordance with the story, or you've hit a stump in the plot, then please let me know. I'll figure something out.

? Finally, don't put your name, clanname, real name or whatever in the map using env_messages, env_text's or whatever at the start of your map/chapter. This is not an individual map pack (like Issues). So I don't want to see this:
User posted image
However, only chapter names are allowed, as long as you don't include your name. So in this case "IT SHOULDN'T TAKE MORE THAN A MINUTE" is fine. Or perhaps this:
            Chapter #
IT SHOULDN'T TAKE MORE THAN A MINUTE
would even be better.

This is it. We are realistically on the home stretch. Please dont fuck this up.

note: this message was sent to every fixed member of the HS team via PM as well.
