in L4D map randomly crashes Post #277651
I'm making a L4D map and all was going well until it suddenly crashes without error when loading. I've tried removing different parts of the map, with some success but usually it will crash for no reason after a short while. Can anyone explain or better yet, fix it? Here is the rmf:

I'm using a texture that has detailed sprites on it, you know, with the little sprites of grass and such. However, when I play it in-game, they are all screwy and look crap. Is there a way to fix this?

I can give you a desert eagle (we already have one in HL:SF), I will develop a Shock Rifle (we want one in HL:SF) and i'll do the pitdrone and gonome monsters for you. (We have both partially working in HL:SF)

Tell you what, if you give me your working displacer code i'll help you out with a few things. I've been trying for ages to make a displacer in HL:SF with no such luck.

Sorry, i'm in the bargaining stage of frustration :P

That's why we wanted it played by different people. Different video cards cope differently. We need to know as much as we can so we can try to balance it out so it works for everyone.

In Far Cry 2, the player is forced to kill his buddies.
I loved that bit of the game, not because of what you were forced to do, but because when I actually realized what was going on, the first thing I could think of was: "You backstabbing bastards!!! I saved your lives!! I should have left you to rot!!"

I was also kinda glad that my favorite buddy had died, because I don't think I would have really wanted to kill him.
I wouldn't buy this crap regardless. Over hyped console shite.
I'm with Urby, I never really liked any of the newer Call of Duty games, the old one were great but the new ones sucked.

I'm going to get married within the next 3 years. Once I have some money for the wedding. never enough money!! I spend to much, all by myself, let alone with my fiance.

And FYI, I only got dumped once, but that was because she found out she was pregnant with someone else, she is actually due in a few days, i'm going to go visit her, we are still friends.

Okay, i've processed the results, and I was actually quite surprised.

I used an EXE, RAR, ACE, 7z formats to compress a 471 MB folder with the following results:

hlsf_BETA12.exe (286 MB)
hlsf_BETA12.rar (266 MB)
hlsf_BETA12.ace (258 MB)
hlsf_BETA12.7z (243 MB)

I think the results are fairly self-sufficient. It also proves that my early conclusions were wrong, so I apologise. Unless anyone objects, i'll be using 7z. You thoughts?

Thought provoking violence is accepted in movies, but for some reason not in video games. Why?
This is the question that many asked the man behind the law against R rated games in Australia. The difference between a violent movie and a violent game is just one simple fact:

You watch violence in a movie, you instignate (play) violence in a game

Also, I believe so long as shooting the civilians causes a mission failure, then this can be classed as simply a interactive cinematic.

And they can't be held back by ratings boards either, it has the same level of innocent death as games such as GTA and Saints Row 2. In those games you see people deliberately gun people down or fire rockets in crowds or drive along the sidewalk mowing everyone down. In fact, it's quite clean, it's the concept that people have trouble to stomache.

I think they have made quite a bold move to include a sequence like this. Something like this has already been done in real life, it really does add strength to the player's will to play game. You have to remember that these days, games are not just about entertainment, but is, in a sense, a form of art.

But what about all the other things you do yourself, or consent to? There's far greater risks involved in your own home then with a vaccine. Food poisoning is a good one.
No offence, but I wouldn't consent to food poisoning, lol

While you are using bad examples, I do understand where you are coming from. And I will agree we take a great number of risks every day, but, I don't really believe that the consequenses of such daily actions would likely be so severe. And most of these things we have to do anyway.

The stupid thing about the vaccine, I believe, is that you are likely to get flu like symptoms from taking the vaccine, as well as the other possible risks. If you don't, then you get a flu. Full stop. It's just a flu with a fancy name. Nobody is at a higher risk of dying of Swine Flu than they are of dying of regular flu.

Actually, as a health care worker in Australia, we were also given priority vaccinations as well as the other groups (Elderly, Pregnant women, ect), so I could have gotten mine within a week of being released and not pay a cent.
You must be absolutely terrified of cars then.
You have to remember we are talking about a drug that you give consent to taking, not a motor vehicle accident that we have little or no control over.
