william1, I suggest putting the word "skybox" into the texture filter and seeing what comes out. You can preview the skies as well as get the names of em. Do not directly apply brushes with the actual sky texture, use the properties option.

If you don't use cubemaps then your maps will look rubbishIf your GFX card does not support DX9 (i.e. Its native environment is lower than DX9), adding cubemaps won't make any difference when you run your own map. Of course, on other machines it won't be the same story.

1. Don't carve! The method that you're using (going only 1 unit in) splits the original brush up more, putting more strain on the engine. I'd either construct the hole manually, or create a brush for the window and place it one unit away from the building.
2. Unfortunately, there isn't any "easy" way to make loads of unique buildings. You can always just copy and paste buildings and change the textures a little, but it'd still look repetitive. I suppose you'll just have to construct them all individually.
3. The person that told you is correct: You've used a texture for a model in your map. You can usually tell them apart from the rest because they have the words "prop" or "model" in the names.

SpaG: According to various clues within the game, and the HL Saga Site, the population of Earth has been reduced to living within large settlements (City 15, 16, 17 and so on). Other clues show the Combine overhaul of the Earth in various places (there's a newspaper clipping, I think in Kliener's lab showing the UN building being destroyed).

Mate, backtrack to the days of the SNES and even the NES. In Japan, Nintendo released various devices that basically allowed the user to use their console as a PC, complete with a basic form of Internet access. These devices included stuff like Keyboards. In fact, Mario Paint for the SNES (quite popular it was when it came out) came with a Mouse for the SNES, so you could use it to paint all sorts of crap.
