I'm out.

I may finish Scart when I feel like I have a moment to do so but these next two months are going to be ultra hell. SMJ dev is getting throttled as well, probably until next year. Again.

lol omg yes

not what I was thinking but it's even better. This reminds me of improvised prop comedy, only it's mapping, and funnier.

Does it go without saying that we can move, rotate, and scale the base?

I wonder what would happen if the base map was not a room, but a weird random shape of brushwork instead. A "Make something out of this chunk of brushes" minicompo?

I wouldn't say Halloween is an American cliche, just a derivative from the Day of the Dead. Though all of our holidays are kinda like that. Easter, Christmas, and Halloween have been hallmarked into a politically correct neutral so everyone can celebrate it and no one will get upset.

Yeah it will be animated. Modeling is mostly done, but I need time to paint and rig it. I'll probably not get it in on time unless you're judging on the merit of potential here. :(

Google had some cool designs, but they all pretty much look the same.

I like this one
User posted image
Though I like the base and structure of this one a little more.

I notice similarities among them all which are the rings and the ball or disk at the top.

The brushwork version you have is really awesome looking, don't let any of these other jokers tell you otherwise. But at first I thought it was more like an electric chair than a tesla coil.

I can pound this out with my compo entry this evening if you still need an actual model for it.

Color takes the render color and colors the entire object, and the render amount is like the opacity.

Glow is more for sprites, it doesn't really effect brushwork or models.

in Packing textures into .WAD files Post #322092
It takes a bit of editing to do it.

There is no alpha channel but rather a transparent color. That color is color number 255 in the texture's color palette, it's the last color. You cannot have any partial transparency commonly seem with an alpha channel, so decide wisely what is transparent and what is not because there is no in-between.

If you open up an existing transparent texture, you'll notice this on the palette on the right side of wally's interface. If you've colored all of the see-through areas of your texture with a masking color (red, blue, green, magenta, yellow, actually doesn't matter) import it in as you normally would into wally and edit it.

First step is to copy (ctrl + C) the whole texture as it is. You'll paste it later.

It's very likely that your masking color will not be the last color in the palette so let's fix that.

Up at the top menu, click COLORS > EDIT PALETTE...

Click the last color and look at it's RGB value.

Take those values and change your masking color to that value.

Now with the last color in the palette, index 255, change that color to the masking color, whatever it might be.

The texture in the editing canvas will change and that's ok. go EDIT > PASTE > PASTE INTO IMAGE (ctrl + E) and the texture you copied earlier will be inserted into the texture but it will inherit the new palette data, having your mask color in the correct location in the palette and in the texture.

Hope this works for you.

I always like drawing geometry. I do it a lot in 3ds max and I would love to see it in a mapping sense for HL. I guess that's what makes the Spark editor so appealing is that its just so free-form. I guess I want to see mapping become even more convenient, in turn be more fun.

I don't know what the new Hammer really has because it just doesn't run too well on my lappy craptop.

I noticed a moment ago that 3ds max's power relies on all of the extras it has accumulated over a long period of time. 80 percent of the program is comprised of its Max Scripts that people have made for the program. If sledge could be scripted in such a way, we all could feasibly help its development rather than simply keep mentioning things we would like to see. Make a community effort of it.

Even if it were used only for roughing and layout purposes, it would carve out a space to work within and prevent a lot errors, or even be a little pre-optimized.

Start simple and all that.

EDIT: Actually the ability to place 64 unit (or an adjustable size) cubes a'la Minecraft creative mode style to add or subtract from a layout would be damn useful for organizing space. Just keep clicking through the walls and make rooms. Obviously the outside spaces wouldn't be solid with brushes but would add/subtract as needed.

Heh, why are they even called brushes if you can't paint with them?

EDIT2: Not even a Minesledge or Sledgecraft joke? Where is everyone?

It would be a novelty thing like the text tool. I would like to see it, even if a tile-based map had a lot of extra editing and such, tiles would make a number of things easier like space planning and cave carving. Even for Goldsource with a well crafted resource pack.

Maybe take on an approach the new hammer has for DOTA2 and open up the availability for tile-based mapping. Of course it would take a massive amount of user setup, but creating libraries and resource packs is a little more my kinda thing.

I built a ton of tile based prefab things for 6D back in the day. Twas fun and had a nice result.

My source skills are limited to L4D2 stuff. HL2 physical entities and all that are a bit outside my understanding.
