Surely it would make more sense to answer peoples queries in the mapping forums, unless the byproduct of this is a giant FAQ of doom people can refer to.

Anyway, I can create rediculously complicated scripted sequences, but I've never once made an NPC say anything!

CRTs are only better because they support all resolutions and provide a more accurate representation of an image colour wise. For every other intent and purpose they provide a picture incomparably clearer than a CRTs.

Ive recently come of the opinion that a closed attitude to modding anything only hurts the community, while its nice to be asked for help, people will try their best to do it themselves. You might as well let them, if anyone steals your stuff its obvious and no self respecting mapper would do it.

Anyway, i'm pretty certain you could easily hex edit that prefab out, someone created an 'anti decompiler' for dungeon siege a while back. It took me 5 minutes to figure out you only needed to change 1 hex value to allow decompiling again.

strange, mine didn't do any of that. It just sits in the taskbar and hooks into a plugin in foobar2k. At first i'd have preferred just a plugin in Foobar, but the tray utility is quite useful for finding out track information.

It doesnt look a patch on Oblivion, but not a lot does. The combat was quite interesting though, something Oblivion didn't improve on much from Morrowind.

But I already said all this in the other thread, this thread should be about why I dont like Steam.

Steam is still running
Offline mode doesnt always work
You cannot install steam on a pc without an internet connection (e.g. my home theatre pc downstairs)
I love waiting 5 minutes before I'm able to play a game, go Steam!

yay, its through steam even though the demo appeared to be completely devoid of it. I love having to be online to play single player games.

its one of the famous points about the halflife 'style', everything is told in the first person from gordons perspective, albiet it can lend itself to shoddy storytelling as its hard to get the message across, but it immerses you in the game more

I finally watched the video, its very well done but that scene would work in a MOVIE, itd be so easily overlooked in a first person only game.

Actually, on that matter, why is the camera NOT in first person there?? Please dont tell me Valve are doing cutscenes now, the fanboys will go mentalist!

(or more accurately they will just cream themselves lapping up direct fan service)

oh please dont mention UO, it was great because it was the first and offered TRUE freedom of gameplay, you could be the biggest shittiest wanker around as the game mechanics allowed you to do it. You could go kill npcs if you felt inclined to, they did stop you from killing guards mind.

I 'role played' a compelte asshole for quite a while, pretending to be npcs etc. One of the few games where you could do that ;)

Others are probably better at diagnosing hl steam errors than myself, are you using the Steam SDK or the external Worldcraft? The compile log shows it executing bsp twice, your path also seems a little strange, how can hlbsp et al be in c:program filessteam? They're usually in steamsteamappsusernamesdketc etc

Metamod looks mental, that was great fun to watch. It almost all looked staged though, nobody on the other team commented in worldspeak and the camera work was too good to have been done in real time (unless they did it all on their own server with tv spec thingy running)
