That looks really cool, satchmo. Let us know if it's worth getting!

I've been playing Far Cry 4 today. It is without a doubt the most beautiful game I've ever played. Every single direction you face, you're presented with mouth-watering, unique and awe-inspiring vistas. The gunplay is unchanged from FC3 (which is great) and the characterization is at a level that only Valve have managed before now.
I am blown away so far.

And yeah, I'm punching well above my weight with this one

Love that mirror shot - when I first saw the thumbnail on my phone I thought it was a perfectly frozen raindrop or something. You're getting really good results from a phone.

A lot of electronics experts around here! :)

I'm a freelance VFX artist, creating visual effects & motion graphics for broadcast TV, adverts and corporate videos.
Since college I've always worked in TV, but I started out as a camera operator before the early call times and stressful working environments pushed me towards post-production. Not to mention the far higher rates.

I typically work around two weeks per month which provides enough money to comfortably live on, though occasionally (like now) I end up on a mega project and work for a few months solid.

Freelance life can be stressful as I'm constantly having to source my next job, but I enjoy the benefits way too much to go back to permanent work.

I played the new Smash Bros. for the first time tonight with my flatmate. Really enjoyed it! Tried about nine characters; all felt unique and tactile without being overwhelming in terms of move sets.

Hold off on F12014. It's great, but it's the last game on the current Ego engine (after like what, 10 great games??) F12015 is scheduled for March and it's already heavily in development on the new engine. I'm really excited.

Craziest request yet:

Spline brush tool. A primitive-style brush tool which - rather than drawing a bounding box - allows you to draw a spline of points, define properties like width and instantly create a shape made of several legal brushes.

Very pretty game, Lajron, but the UI looks terrible. Is it configurable to get rid of some of the ugly icons?

In other news, this is still completely capturing my attention. What a phenomenal farewell to this generation of the Ego engine. It has served us so well over the past four years.

Way too much fun. Way too exciting. I get SUCH an adrenaline rush from this. If you fully commit to the realism and don't allow restarts or assists, every championship point is worth everything within you. I'm literally sweating after every race, and I'm only doing between 25-35 laps.

Experimental Feature Request:

Just had an interesting idea. Not sure how practical it'd actually be, but I'm curious to see if anyone thinks it'd be useful.
This would be quite similar to prefabs, but from a more modular approach. Have a prefab VMF sheet file which defines detailed brushwork for specific textures.
This is a file you can add to to your heart's content - several variations for each texture, even.

How would it apply to mapping?

So you make your flat brush and apply one of your detailed textures to a face. Select that face and hit a button like 'APPLY DETAILED BRUSHWORK' and Sledge will reference the sheet file and apply the brushwork to the face. This could scale or tile based on the brush's dimensions compared to the original sheet brush's dimensions. Hitting the button again, or perhaps having a numeric dropdown for the texture could define which variation to use in instances of more than one detail variety. This could also tile randomly with the variations.

I'm picturing having a long, flat hallway, selecting one wall, hitting the button and just having a variety of details running all the way down it in one button press.

Thoughts?

Then, in a world that strives for unity, something that is a must in a century where we boast ourselves with space exploration and expeditions to Mars, how does this event fit into that perspective?
This was my reason for being a NO supporter for so long. We should be striving for unity, not further separation.
However, it is the right wing elite in Westminster who my countrymen did not elect who are governing us. Their policies and actions are directly hindering progress towards a better, unified planet. Their priorities lie with the bankers and big corporations, not the betterment of mankind. Given that my country has a vast majority left-wing, liberal, green and rational populace, the fact we are governed by traditionalist right-wing elitists who we didn't elect is unacceptable. It is my dearest hope that an independent Scotland will set an example - politics can work. The corruption in government CAN be overcome and perhaps this will benefit the goals of unity. We are not separatists for nationalistic reasons, we are separatists for the right and ability to have a voice.

An hour ago I voted yes.

It is, Stu! How could I live without a smoke machine?!

It was my most carefully packed possession in the move, Tet :crowbar:

In other news, the BBC was recently caught out inventing news that was bias towards the scaremongering No campaign for the upcoming Scottish vote. It is against the law and their own charter to be anything other than completely impartial, so we demonstrated against them. It was a great big party - doing protests the right way: Fun, safe and non-violent.
About 2500 people showed up. The BBC didn't report on it. Go figure. This is one of the most trusted worldwide news sources now caught red handed manipulating the news to suit the agenda of the right wing elite. Terrifying.

Are you working within a Half-Life directory in your steamapps/username or your steamapps/common folder?
Valve recently moved all their games to the common dir, but some legacy remains in the username folder which might be why the mod still appears even though it's pointing to HL. Exe in your common folder... That's my theory anyway :P

it should be limited to games you've actually played though, for fairness's sake.
Somewhat missing the point, dude. Also, seriously missing out on some great games. CoD 4 is fantastic, Far Cry 3 is loads of fun and making the protagonist and his friends total idiots actually pays off really well with the ending. It doesn't impact the gameplay at all, either, and it's a solidly made game.
I never played Colin Mcrae Rally 1, but 2 was one of my absolute favourite games as a kid. Calling it one of the 5 worst games ever because you couldn't run it is dumb.
And GTA 5 is pretty damn good as well.

Lot of bug reporting lately, I feel like a feature request is long overdue!

This one might be a pipe dream, but bear with me. If it's doable, it'll blow the pants right off you with awesomeness.

Is there a way? IS THERE A WAY? Is there a way we could preview train and door movements in-editor in order to fine-tune parameters such as speed and acceleration? I'm thinking a 'ghost' version of the entity follows its paths and disappears when something else is clicked on, or maybe even loops whilst live updating? Is that too silly?
It's crazy, I know, but it's that sort of crazy which also seems vaguely feasible.
