in You've Been Mapping Too Much When... Post #22124
Black Mesa is a real place, but I don't think there's a research facility there...it's just the name of the location.

-When someone in your form spills very strong acid on one of your friends during a chemistry lesson, and you feel sorry that the victim wasn't wearing an HEV suit...but he survived with a bandaged hand, and the knowledge that he's getting close to being able to sue the guy, since that person also injured another of my friends' heads (Again, by accident). True story.

YOU KNOW YOU'VE BEEN USING SD MODELS TOO MUCH WHEN:

-You wonder why security guards with pistols don't have an M4A1 strapped to their back (Ambient.Impact's SD Barney has an M4 on his back, but he doesn't use it)

-You think all security guards should wear HEV suits (Like the barney in my av)

-Your glasses are so dirty that they appear to be opaque, and you look for a place to download the transparency dlls from (Not true, I don't wear glasses)

-You keep bugging everyone around you for a Barney with an Uzi, and they have no idea what you are on about (Half true, I've been bugging people on the HIT forums for that)

-You start getting people with low-def hl model avatars to get a new one with an SD model (Haven't done it yet...)

Anyway, back on topic:

-When your internet is even slower than normal, and you type in r_speeds 1 as an URL, to check the ipoly (Internet poly)

-When you see a guy with a crowbar, and compare it to the HL one (Guilty)

-When you're playing 007: Everything or Nothing, and grab a terrorist's crowbar to recreate HL (Guilty for a few seconds, I then got shot dead 'cos I had to run to the guy who was shooting)

YOU'VE BEEN PLAYING BLUE-SHIFT TOO MUCH WHEN:

-You can't read your email because your internet is malfunctioning, and you then say "I can't access my files, I can't answer my mail. I haven't even been able to get into my office!"

-When you're watching Black Books, series 3, episode 1, and compare the evil guy who runs Goliath Books to Dr. Rosenberg (He looks very similar! And I'm guilty, obviously)

Make each floor a separate map. That way, we won't get lag or anything. We all design our own floors, and then link all the maps with transitions. When I get my comp fixed, I'll probably design myself a heavily guarded office with traps and defence guns etc. everywhere.

Wait, there's more...

http://svencoop.com (Not as good, but you can make requests in the forum. However, you may only get average SD models, like the ones with Sven Co-op...)

If you want real quality, download Ambient.Impact's excellent models.

I can't believe so many people don't want SD models...and ZL doesn't even like HD...ho-hum...at least Seventh and 6th can see the good thing about them. They aren't too flashy. They look great! And anyway, since my (currently screwed up) computer is unlikely to manage HL2, SD is the next best thing...and it can handle SD models OK.

OK, there could be a number of things:

1: Landmark name must be lowercase, with no spaces or punctuation except _, and it should have a very short name.
2: Landmark name must be the same in both maps.
3: Landmark must be in the EXACT same area in both maps.

Map 1 should be:

_________________
*        ]
_________________

Map 2 should be:

_________________
] *
_________________

In the diagrams, the _ is the wall, the ] is the trigger_changelevel and the * is the info_landmark.

Hmm...I had some adware once called easywww.exe, and ad-aware didn't detect it. Do a search on your computer for that, because it interferes with your homepage. Delete everything with easywww in its name.
This post was made on a thread that has been deleted.

I don't remember posting this...have you by any chance been editing that thread we were using as a "chatroom" earlier, Seventh? Yes

The riot shield barney is excellent, but one of the highlights is Ambient.Impact's excellent HGrunt. Actually, come to think of it, all of his models are of an excellent quality.

NOTE
Many of these models have transparent sections. These will only appear transparent if you:

A: Use Steam, since it has model transparency coded in
B: Download the transparency dlls from the HIT forums (http://hl-improvement.com). I think they're in one of the stickies in the model releases thread. Download them, and save them over the originals in C:SierraHalf-Life. DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU USE STEAM. It already has transparency, and the new dlls may stop it from working properly.

Also, if you want to see transparency in models without playing HL, download Jed's HL model viewer. It's an upgraded version of the normal HL model viewer from MilkShape 3D's website, and it supports transparency. You can also change it in the viewer like chrome effects, saving the job of editing the model's .qc file.

  • When you start discussing mapping with your parents, who don't understand a word of it.
  • When you're at school, there are 3 working computers in the room, the other 2 are broken, you're on 1 browsing the HL forums, and other people are on the other 2, playing those crappy games at http://slimeathlete.com, http://slimesector.com and http://sfcave.com, and your friends keep bugging you about when you're going to come off, because they want to play the crappy games at the aforementioned sites, and think you're wasting their playing time. I know I'm guilty.

No, no, no, no, NO! You want REAL quality. Get some super definition models:

http://hl-improvement.com (Make any requests in the forum)
http://sdmodels.cjb.net (Not all links are up)
http://planetquake.com/aow (Most models, look in the Sven Co-op section, since Sven uses HL models)

Save the BMPs as 24 bit, then you can use any colour. Then use PSP or something (Not paint, it ruins the colours) to turn it back into 256 colour.

http://planetquake.com/aow (Most are available here)

http://svencoop.com (The mod comes with some anyway, but you can make requests in the forums. This is where I found out about the HIT forums)

How would you feel if instead of making Half-Life: Security a proper mod, I just made it as a Sven Co-op map pack? Do many people on this site own Sven Co-op? If I did, it would be both SP and Co-op...and ti would mean I don't have to do any coding at all. The only downside to this is that if hardly anyone owns Sven Co-op, they won't be able to play it...since I'm not gonna put up a massive mod containing all of Sven's vital files. I'll then have to advertise it on the Sven forums...
It would still be a mod...sort of...there will still be new models included.

OK, I got a grunt I like. It's the same as the normal SD grunt (Similar to HD, but he has a few pouches on his belt, and the beret guys now wear helmets), but the balaclava guy now wears a helmet.
