What is this for exactly? just HL1DM or a mod?
For a clan that I'm also in. We needed an alien_slave player model since the clan was called "Xen". I searched everywhere but couldn't find any.

Here is also our website http://www.xenizm.com/, which is under construction atm. And also here is a small logo If you could add it on the alien_slave as a texture it would be awesome ^^ . But I couldn't really think of any place to put it? Hmm. Maybe on the collar? But I think the texture on collar only work with chrome ticked...

edit: Ok, I think I got excited a bit too much. Let's see if the model works first :(

I could tweak around with one until it works. I've been experimenting with player models and they are (so far) the easiest thing to do as far as modelling goes.

what say you?

If I do it, it would likely be really humanoid since it does need to fit on the skeleton.

Also made a hilarious discovery, I can burrow the players the same way i burrow the Glizards for 6D. I could change the ducking animation to be underground. It'd be friggin lulzy to do it. tongue - :P Talk about some serious hide-and-seek.
I really need that model so do the best you can :)
But do not add extra stuff like burrow. As the model is going to take place in serious team-matches.

I don't believe it is. At points when you see yourself in 3rd person I believe they just spawned a slave...
I know, that's true. Since the slave was in the 3rd person cutscenes was very slow and didn't perform any of the animations that a player model should have. But there is still a chance that the gordon player model could have been replaced by an alien_slave player model or just some null model. Since we only see ourselves in the first intro movie and then the player gets teleported after you enter the secret door. That's as much as I can remember about POV. Correct me if I'm wrong.

That's absurd, you don't have to recreate anything. You can import the mesh, line it up with a normal player's placeholder pose, and assign the vortigaunt's mesh to the player bones. Its the same method people use to convert things like custom CSS animations to DOD and such.
I can have this done for you late Sunday/Monday, but right now I'm away from the dorm, and don't have access to my desktop PC.
That would be great.

note: Also the i_slave player model with missing animations is the PS2 version. (HD i_slave).

edit: Here it is the dm_slave player model with the missing animations. I'm not sure if it would be any help.

Take the keycard on the box (the box which you can climb with the ladder)
The hardest part is to find the other 2 keycards. One of them will open the infirmary and the other will lead you to next section of the facility.
If only i could get to him...

I could'nt understand a single word of what was saying, there was too much background noise surpressing the guys speech.
Press the use key "e" to talk to him again. You can press anytime and he will repeat it. And sorry for the background noise, wanted the machinery to sound realistic.

No i did not cheat in that part. I remember that guy, but he would'nt stand up. So i moved on.

Ill go back and try again.

Edit: Looks like i can't go back, the door to the garage is locked.
He should have told you to go and get a green medkit. It's in the infirmary with the keycard that leads to the nextmap. And the guy opens the garage door for you in the next map so that you can activate the generator and both of you can escape. You must have cheated. Or did you just break the garage door by kicking it? :)

Im stuck again.

What am i supposed to do with that car on the elevator? I turned the generator on, and used the elevator lever in the control room, but the elevator doesn't move. Neither does the car, i can only break it, but that triggers a message saying "You need that car" and the game automatically loads the last saved game.
You need the driver. The owner of the car who is dying in the previous map. You need to help him first and take him to the car. Did you cheat again?

I can send the .rmf and you can see it yourself. There is nothing wrong with the map and I have no idea why it does it sometimes. It must be because of a code written by Gearbox.

hey, is p1v3 the last mission? i no cliped all around the final spot and couldnt find anything that would lead me to a new level :(
the crane map? Level change in that map doesnt seem to work sometimes as well. Quick save and quick load to fix it.
and i found a terrible bug. you know the map that didnt load before? well that happened again. so i saved the game, reloaded to that spot and loads of stuff showed around me, including the gman. i dont understand whats the problem, but when i first entered the map there were almost nothing in it. now i load it and voala, i see tons of stuff in it. :\

edit: hey i might of gotten stuck in the cocoon somehow.
That's not a bug, it's an engine error. There is no way to fix it. After 2 intro maps, all entities do not show up in xenmp. It only shows up if you quick save and quick load. Or you can just type "map xenmp".

I noclipped too. That security card didn't made any sense to me.

After the keylock door, i turned noclip off and moved on normally.
I just played the map again to check if anything was wrong.
And I'm terribly sorry the code on keycard actually shows 7512 and the code on the door is 9572. It's a texture error, I forgot to replace the texture on the keycard...Fuck! Even though, someone might think that the 7 could be a 9 and 1 could be 7. (lol)

edit: Damn, this is embarrassing.

I noclipped. I knew the puzzle and keypad were related. I just cut out the thinking part. :P
Damn cheats :( I was also going to surround the trigger_change_level with a trigger_load for people trying to get pass the level by noclipping. So they wouldnt be able to get pass the level even if they cheated. But thought that would be a bit too harsh.

But please ask like Muzz did before cheating.
Shit man, it really is the hardest mod i've ever played. Seriously.
You are right, I should have made that code for an optional passage to next level. But I'm just too evil to do that.

Yeah? And then what? There's this... security card or something there, but the keylock has numeric buttons, and there are no numbers on that card, so wtf? Also, some letters are marked, so i thought converting them to numbers (a=1, b=2, c=3 etc) should get the door open, but no.
Press the use key "e" on the card to examine it more carefully.
It's a 4 digit code. Use the letters to form the 4 numbers that unlocks the door.(It's like one of those drawings in colouring books. Where you form an image by drawing over some dots.) Then enter the code.

You don't need to fight the zombies and bore yourself to death. Like I mentioned above, players usually and should ignore them.

edit: Oh, I can see it now. It's possible to finish that map without loss of hp. You can still beat the map with 23hp. Stay behind the obstacles. It's all about timing. Trust me.

I tested the hard mode but got stuck at the pit_drone infested tunnels. I always play on hard mode. I tought you people already noticed that :)
My maps are always hard to beat ;)

Btw people please don't be shy, review! I already know that mapping in the first chapters are horrible and made of narrow corridors. So you guys can be harsh :)

note:
Another possible bug
If you quick save and quick load often in a map. It's possible that the game may crash. I don't know how to fix it. So, you have to open the game and quick load again. :(


And people, please do not cheat. If you find the game very hard. Just play it on easy mode or try shooting every NPC in the head. (x3 damage if it's a headshot)

p1v1 is the first playable map.
xenmp2 is the first playable map. But you cant play it by typing "map xenmp2" (sorry, my bad)

It has to be triggered by a level_change from xenmp.
yes. but i got stuck before the first playable map. duh?
After you enter the portal (gman speaking). Look around you after the map change and follow the light carefully.

I am totally stuck at the part with the eyes that shoot lasers!
Shoot the white parts of it's neck(?). (200hp-100hp cant remember)
The changelevel from p1v3 to p1v4 doesn't work.
quick save and quick load.
the change level from the xen spot where gman talks to you doesnt even get triggered
Weird, it works for me? Does anyone has the same thing? Quick save and quick load to fix it.

note: If anyone has opposing force installed copy pak0 from gearbox folder to Xen_Assault folder. It should fix some of the bugs that may occur.

Thanks everyone, to skip the intro movie simply write "map xenmp" into the console or "map xenmp2". I will check the intro maps again and see if I can fix those bugs you guys mentioned.

Hello everyone, I should have been uploading the finished mod right now. Sadly I'm uploading the demo and I wont be working on the mod anymore. You can play the demo from the Vault.

Known critical bugs
*Intro movie sometimes gets stuck
*Music at the last map sometimes does not play.
*The 3rd map of the intro sometimes gets stuck (quick save and quick load to fix it)

I agree with satchmo, you shouldnt try to learn most of the stuff in such a hurry. Start from mapping then proceed to more advanced stuff. Or you'll probably end up with a crappy mod. (no offense, mappers who made stuff in a rush always ended up with a horibble map/mod)

(If it's a Singleplayer mod, you'll need to practice with entities too.)

I dont know if anyone tried this before, when I set a custom model on a hgrunt_repel entity (monster). It doesn't appears... It works perfectly on all other monster entities. How can I set a custom model on a hgrunt_repel?

note: The custom model is a re-skinned hgrunt.

I saw in Paranoia and some other mods when you go somwhere music files(mp3) were playing and I would add mp3 in my own HL storyline.
The question is how to do it ? ambient_generic only can play wav files.
Requires coding. I think you need to code an entity into the .fgd file that plays .mp3.

Some old screenshots from the map I made for the Flat-Life compo (which I couldnt finish it properly) It was actually going to be a some kind of mini-mod with 6 maps. The player tries to sneak his way through in the first 2 maps then the action starts. There was also a boss I was planning (Metal-Slug style) for the final stage. Inspired by "1213". (if anyone still remembers that game)

The first screenshot is a bit too plain, looks like the walls can use a bit more detail. And yea the yellow light beam looks a bit weird ^^

Also those buildings can have some more destruction. Like broken pieces of glasses everywhere, some flames coming out of a window maybe, some chairs or tables inside the rubbles (they were not living in a cave, you know :lol:), some random metal pieces hanging out from the walls, broken water pipes or some blood on the walls. These are what I can think of so far, but if you want to scare the player a bit more those can come in handy.

Also, It's good to see you back in action :)

Here is my idea about how to select the winner to choose the next song.
Everybody is free to try casual, pro and elite.

So you can have scores on every board (casual, pro, elite)
1st place worths - 3 points
2nd place - 2 points
3rd place - 1 point

The member with the most points wins at the end of the week and gets to choose the next song.

What about a compo?

The Hunter (since he intoduced AudioSurf on TWHL the first) picks a song, makes it available for download, then everyone else downloads it and try to get the highest score for that song in a week time (or shorter/longer) and the person with the highest score at the end of that period gets to choose the next song and so on, and so on, and so on. We can have a public score table for each song that's been played. Statistics ftw.
