I'm new to 3ds max and i want to know how to assign a texture to a model.
Is it anything like milkshape?
I got this far:

I made a model

I imported the bitmap i want to use for the model

And thats it. i dont know where to go from there and google doesnt seem to turn up with any tutorials.

What i mean by is it anything like milkshape, do you place the vertices on a background of a texture or what..... :confused:

Any help at all is appreciated.

hint: its similar to a problem posted on the page but if u get it dont tell anyone.

and i dont know what you guys are talking about with the zoom feature... hitting tab zooms in, then zooms out. nothing does anything different for me.

and i took a look at the hazardcoursemap. even though incomplete, it looks really cool, and i like the grid on the map.

you re-did the siaph? how could it get more awesome it already looks great

I just recently got it and its the most fun i've had playing a handheld game.
I have a wireless router so i can do Wi-Fi and i hooked my Ds into the nintendowifi.com stats.

Single player is amazing too.

If anyone else has it and plays online pm me with your friend code and i'll send mine over.

Wow man..
The wierdest thing that happened to me was my girl breaking up with me when i was playing cs. I got pissed cuz i got awped then she hung up... 1 month later she got knocked up by some dude.

Its not my kid!

One of my cats had a heartattack on thanksgiving. (god rest him)
Now i dont have to clean the piss off my rug anymore.

I randomly went to Lake Compounce (local amusement park) and ran into a really old friend. We started a band and now we're putting out an album.

I havent mapped while taking a shit, but i have drawn out floorplans for maps; if that's close enough to count.

Rimrook, when this is all said and done and the mod is finished.... You should sent it to valve. Maybe they'll stick it on a CD, Or you can. Because 25mb just for the demo!?!

It'll allll be worth it though.
After Playing
With the new gravity jump i played through the demo in a matter of minutes. Instead of the half-hour it took me the first time.
I like all the new weapon models, absolutley love the sunbeam, but i think it has a little sprite issue while firing.

Some of the world models have nulled surfaces...

Dronefly rocks. i love it.

I tried that Siaph map and i really like the look and feel of the apache replacement. although it didnt hit me once with the cannon. even when i stood still.

I still say you should do something with the blinding white light that comes from the doors, its hard on the eyes.

I didnt get stuck in the floor as mentioned above but i keep falling into the pit where the bullsquid is. that entrance that had the bars on it..

Everything looks terrific rimrook. You keep impressing me =]

first of all make sure its in the correct folder. U can find it easily by browsing to a sound file in hammer, and pasting yours in that folder. make an ambient_generic entity, tick the small radius flag, and it sould loop automatically.

then you use a trigger_auto to trigger it and it should automatically trigger the sound.
match the name's in the target and trigger field and viola.

u can fiddle with the voulme to get it just right. you dont want to drown out everything else

Wii is gonna pwn all other consoles.
360 already has hardware problems. Just like the originals. (they lit on fire)
Ps3 is too much of a computer, and is predicted to be upwards of $500 (screw that i hate sony anyway) And im planning on stocking up on sega Genesis games, Nes, Snes, N64 games... Using the contoller as a nunchuck is just a bonus.

Delete the old version of the bsp.
Compile again and read through your compile log. If there's an error its not making a .bsp and then it wont compile. also use the zoners compile tools if you dont have them already. They're much more efficient than the other ones.

Or maybe the directory gor b0rked somehow

i cant wait to see the dronefly in action. the shannon does look good as a model, but personally i think it could use a little more. maybe a turnstyle logo or 2?

Im loving the sunbeam also. Does that replace the egon?

My friend and i wanted to make a counterstrike map of my highschool.
which, we all know is a disatser as a first map.
But i downloaded hammer anyway and i needed some tutorials. So i searched the web and got some ladder and door tutorials from here, and soon enough i started coming here like 3 or 4 times an hour and i just became a member.

oh... well i decided not to go with a tracktrain. i just used a train with the angular velocities set. and its JUST what i wanted.

Im guessing tractrain was just too advanced for a 512unit displacement.

or im just not using it right....

I have a new mod in the works. no storyline yet, its just a bunch of maps stuck together when i have ideas.

something about an ancient civilation's technology discovered in the earth.. whatever..

so i have this room. when you walk in there the door closes and the bars shut behind you. (if you look at the map, the bars dont shut, they open, but thats an easy fix, the least of my worries right now) so you need to find a way out. so you need to crack open the crystal stuck under the glass in the room, so you shoot out the beam supports and the beam falls onto the glass, thus breaking the crystal, and opening the door.

BUT

when i walk into the room, the beam is just laying sideways and the supports that trigger the multisource that trigger the multimanager dont cause the beam to move..

Entity setup:
Supports are Func_breakables that Trigger a multisource.
The Multisource triggers a multimanager.
The multimanager triggers the beam and later the explosion.
the beam is a func_tracktrain that should follow a set of path_tracks down towards the glass pit.

eh.. when i trigger it, everything BUT the tracktrain works.

you can try using models for the trees, if not, just make a bunch of cylenders sticking out of eachother, make the trunk a world brush and the branches func_walls. then find a nice texture for the leaves, just look out the window (assuming you have trees outside) for inspiration.

About the keycard door, make sure you have the proper flags ticked. what those flags are, i dont know, but try some out.

yeah but in case you dont wanna read the tutorials.... here's what you do
when you compile, turn off spart edit. you should get the actual compiler ting. with the 2 windows.

anyway, in the csg string, after the rest of the stuff type in "-wadinclude wadname.wad" and that should do it. make sure to have the wad in the hammer directory or, type in the filename correctly. then it should work just dandy for you
