in Valve DM mapping competition Post #91765
i know, you dont start with it. when HL2DM first came out, there was what was known as the "gravgun noob". the gravgun noob would refuse to use any kind of real weapon, and would insist on throwing toilets at people rather than shooting them. now we have what is known as the "stunstick noob". the stunstick noob will stay in an enclosed part of the map with the stunstick, and use its amazing range to wallop people out of existence.
seriously, the stunstick has way too much range. ive been killed by it, even though i've been standing 16 units away from the stick.
but the S.L.A.Ms just pain rock. i'm surprised they didnt have a weapon like them in hl2. it was always great fun in hl1, when you placed a tripmine at one part of a level, then stood really far away, waited for a grunt to run near it then jumped up into the laser.

just use the texture for the front of the vending machine. if the textures are aligned properly, you should just see the button part.

yeah, but it helps if you're using lots of custom textures, and maybe you're not using hl.wad.

go to map proprties in the map toolbar. go to the maxviewable distance field, and change the number to something higher.

but if you're making a sensible map, then you shouldnt need to change this. sounds like this one could turn out to be a lagger.

fake. zoom in with your browser (if you're not an IE eating scumbag) and you'll see that the sky around there is pretty much one colour, because it was taken on a webcam. it would be easy to put another image over that picture. i've taken an F-16 from one picture, and managed to make it look like it was flying under an archway from another picture in about a minute. this is just a magic wand job.

pupil number? sucker. we get the first 5 letters of our last name, then the 1st letter of our first name. if you have a brother or sister in the school you get an 0* after the name (where * is the number of people directly related to you in the school), then the year you entered the school.

whats that "a" mean then?

what breean really says is "a host body? you have got to be joking!" indicating that him taking a host body is an absurd idea, probably because he's human, and as we know, humans cant take over a host body.

its breen again who says that gordon was influenced when he was young. to elaborate on that, he says that he was influenced by isaac kliener and eli vance when he was young and working in black mesa.

10 A. always FULLY compile as often as possible. there could be some errors waiting for you in a full compile that a quick CSG and BSP compile wont pick up.

-4. know the engine. working with an engine as old as half lifes can sometimes create difficulties in large maps. remember to use HINT brushes as often as possible (read the tutorials!) and avoid large, open spaces. another point would be to remember that alot of things you want to create in the engine were'nt used in the original half life, and valve might have not made half life to support these features.
