every time i try to run CS or any HL1 based game it runs horribly slow. and this is on a PC that will play HL2 just fine. i checked the error logs and i would appreciate if anyone could make sense of this:

this was in another thread but sorta got buried. if you have Firefox try out some of these tweaks: http://www.overclock.net/showthread.php?t=12855
i applied these tweaks and now Firefox is more than twice as fast as IE ever was on my connection.

lol this isnt the place to ask for money...most of here barely have anything or we rely on our parents for money. if i want a server i just run it on my own computer. my 256k DSL connection can handle up to 7 players and im lucky if i can even get that many to play on it. so unless you have dialup or a cruddy pc (my server is a laptop) you can make your own easily.

Plus it doesn't have that awful laggy feel!
the only way Firefox would lag is if your internet connection or computer sucks. so maybe its time to ditch the old Commodore 64 and get a new setup.

i think its overheating. the BIOS will automatically shut down the PC to prevent any damage. if you know how to get it open, check the heatsinks and make sure they arent clogged with dust. make sure the fans are running and nothing is obstructing the intakes/exhuast.

i remember when i first played HL1. its was on a Toshiba Satellite 6200CD with a 266MHz Pentium MMX and 32MB of RAM and 800x600 screen resolution. it had a really nice Yamaha sound system built in, which still is better than what i have in my Dell. still got that laptop too.

HL1 was not the same environment. you didnt spend all your time stuck underground. remember Surface Tension? that was the longest level in the game and it was all spent on the surface. HL1 took you from dark underground corridors to open, brightly lit surface maps, from old industrial areas to high tech labs, and from familiar man made areas to strange alien worlds. it wasnt all the same stuff.

HL2 was too short i think. i was hoping to get to some alien world and kick some alien a** but you never end up leaving the City17 area. HL1 took you around alot of places. and just when you thought you were getting near the end, it would keep going. i seriously thought the objective of the game was to get to the surface. so on "We've got hostiles" when i got to the surface, i thought the game was over...until i had to go back underground and realized that i was no where near the end. HL1 was totally unpredictable, you never knew what would come up next. thats what i liked about it.
