Anyone want to start a petition to send to Valve about wanting a Half-Life movie?...........................
Seriously....If enough of us want one and show we want one (by signing a petition) they will know there is demand for it and consider making one?

Or maybe thats just another of my crazy ideas?

I had that exact thing Elon.
Except I had on my vista beta when I was trying it out! (secure my ass!)
Fortunately I imaged my drive just after i installed vista.
(I got infected within 3 hours. (cant say I wasnt trying to get infected though...))

Anyway you probably dont wanna hear how fortunate I was so heres what i recommend:

-Check how your program starts..................
-Try every single anti-virus/spyware/adware known to man (I recomend the microsft one because they have spynet and it also has anti-IE hi-jacking stuff which may solve youre problem)

PS. sorry for the crappy spelling..............im in a rush.

ok............I'll be more precise:

I would preferably like a camera with:

-3-Million (megapixels)+ Pixels. Definitely no less but I would like it to be around 4.
  • I want a screen. Doesn't have to be huge as long as I can see it....
  • I want adequate zoom. Like above average. At least 4x I would think.......
  • I want the camera for professional use if you get what I mean....... (Im a professional amateur : )
  • Memory is important. I want a camera that has a popular storage type....(not sony)
  • I want a camera free of DRM and rootkits (rules out sony)
Is that precise enough? :D

Thanks in advance.......

I'm sorta stuck. I'm not sure how to implement the following idea:

I wanna have a postboard, on the frontpage of my site. Nothing too fancy just a little box where all the old posts are stored. I wanna use it so users of my site can leave each other messages or requests. My site will have limited users so theres no need to worry about it not being the right thing............unless you can tell me something better. The real problem is I don't know much PHP. Can anyone point me to any pre-made stuff. Lame I know but I don't want to spend too much time on this aspect of the site.

Sorry if yoiu can't understand what I want from my post. I'm kind of really tired right now........ :zonked:

in Rootkits!?!?! Post #146754
I agree with SriBous, lets just leave this argument where it is and move on.

Back On topic:

Sony yesterday said that they have now stopped manufacturing the Cd's. In my view it is a bit late because around 27,000 Cd's had there "Copy Protection" so a lot of people may have it. Im not sure if I have told you this before.........but unfortunately the Rootkit technology is very flawed and has one VERY big hole in it which is very dangerous. ANY file which starts with the string $sys$ is rootkitted and just disappears. (but it can still run) This means that just about any junior "hacker" now has a great way to hide their viruses, spyware etc. Thats the really appauling thing for me.

The moral of the story is..................

Don't buy Sony products.

Well, basically its a program which you run in the background and it calculates medical research and stuff. The added feature about it is the ability to make teams which makes it fun too! I posted it here because I thought maybe TWHL could start a team unless D2OL is loads better. m0p could you give me the link to D2OL????

I know everyones gonna say I spam and stuff but my last thread just won't die and I think this is pretty important.

folding@home is this project by (I think) Stanford University which a lot of you may have heard of. It is basically a program which runs in the background and calculates protein dynamics! You're computer is assigned a job and once it does it, the information is sent to their servers. One of the coolest things about it is the feature of being able to make your own team. I think folding@home is pretty cool for two reasons:

1. I don't feel guilty about not helping the world.
2. If enough people are interested we could start a TWHL folding@home team.

Heres the link http://folding.stanford.edu/ Please check it out, its great.

Tell me what you think!

Are you sure? Just because the machine runs slow because of all the other bugs and general stupidness of windows does not mean that its design is not more efficient. On paper, in theory Windows is better at multi-tasking. In real life it may not be because of what I just said. If you are right then I will move over to a Linux Distro in the next 24/h because that was the only reason I was sticking on to Windows. That and all the compatability issues.

Sorry m0p I take back my evil insults. Its just you get a bit out of hand sometimes.

By losing your drive I meant, it disappearing from the OS yeh sure its easy to get it back for us but there are tonnes of people who will just go in to delete the root-kit and get them selves into a lot of hassle.

Also, just because someone posts here a lot doesn't mean they automatically know everything. Just because someone knows what BSD is and can tell me what SMP is doesnt make them 1337 or all-knowing. Its about experience, and how long you have been in IT.

PS. I never said I was better than m0p. I just wanted to stick up for myself. m0p heres a tip: in future don't go into a full on war of words.

The funny thing is. This doesn't just affect windows. The problem is their isn't any point for a hacker to hide a file on Mac or Linux because nothing can infect the OS.

I don't hate windows. If you all hate it so much why are you using it?
1. Its easy to use.
2. Its a great system for games.
3. Its great at multi-tasking (not as good as linux but its better than mac)

I hate Sony though!

m0p you sure you have no rootkits. Because no current anti-spyware/virus will show them. Not even rootkit revealer will get rid of them. So for all you know you could be loaded with rootkits.
(Unless you HAVE already scanned). :D
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-06 12:08:42 UTC
in Rootkits!?!?! Post #145710
I found a good definition
The term "rootkit" (also written as "root kit") originally referred to a set of recompiled Unix tools such as "ps", "netstat", "w" and "passwd" that would carefully hide any trace of the cracker that those commands would normally display, thus allowing the crackers to maintain "root" on the system without the system administrator even seeing them.

Generally now the term is not restricted to Unix based operating systems, as tools that perform a similar set of tasks now exist for non-Unix operating systems such as Microsoft Windows (even though such operating systems may not have a "root" account).
I mean........I wrote it up :sarcastic:

Personally I think overclocking good for one reason.......
You don't need to pay as much. Say you want an AMD 2.2GHz processor but you can only afford a 2GHz one. You can just overclock ure CPU to 2.2Ghz and you'll be saving money. (as long as you have the right cooling). I also think its cool cos' you can have extreme machines like this one! :P

in Rootkits!?!?! Post #145702
Well, basically its a file that hides from the operating system permanently. It does this by changing the OS's file tables or summin which means that you cant see the file anymore.

Sony used this technology in their DRM system to stop people from bypassing the files. And now they are in big, big trouble with lots of people who didn't relise this was installed on their computer.

To get root-kit revealer go to http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/RootkitRevealer.html

Apparently sony are coming up with a way to remove it. But beware there are other root-kits out there which are purposely malicious.

BTW. Even though the files hidden it can still run itself. Which is why this could be so dangerous.
