And, well, as I said, I?m a teacher ?cos I?ve just finished my pedagogical studies.
Still I?ve got to do some exams (set in Summer, 2005) to get a lifetime job, guess I should call myself "Working Teacher" then (If I pass). I?d teach only music although it doesn?t allow me to look over everyone?s shoulder on the area, anyway, teachers in Spain were good seen 80 years ago, when education was not available to everyone. Now that everyone goes to school and children got more and more privileges in education (imagine a law telling that they will never repeat a year, even if they?ve done nothing!!!... They do nothing, laugh at you and then tell their parents you laughed at them so you end up without your job) we?re not good seen. Hope situation changes with new law changes.
But I?m getting out of topic. Let?s end spamming and solve this like men in the Stuff forum :P.

Do really the pendulums work nice in Half Life???. I know that this entity was originally coded for Quake 2 (for just one pendulum that appeared in the game!!!!) and I don?t remember seeing anything working like a pendulum in the HL maps (but I remember in OF).
I?ve done a pendulum, just for fun, and it behaves strange, without keeping an origin of rotation and a center point. ?Is this a common problem?.

I also knew that ;). This friend of mine had a Cryptopsy?s drummer lesson video!!!!!. It was AMAZING... And, well, being unable to understand anything but my own idiom in my deep stupidity, it was such a challenge to understand Morbid Angel?s lyrics, so, imagine that... There was another Death Metal band that my friend liked so much... What was it?s name?. I only heard it once and got quite impressed... Yeah, was Dying Fetus (nice name, ain?t it :confused: ).

Hey Zombieloffe, can?t agree. I agree with Ministeve, bit cheesy, but just turn off the volume and do the speech yourself:

(Example, when Dante cries over the girl):
"Ouuuchhhhhhhhh!!!!. Her heel spiked my in my eggs!!!".

And so.

Devil May Cry is a great action game, in my honest opinion. Features great image quality, great graphics, sound, cameras... Also has a damn good gameplay and has an innovative combat system that is much fun to play. The main character rocks, one feels really invincible!!!... Well, I also like the architecture, effects, everything except the storyline in this game is great. If you like it, you can go nuts with it, playing again and again, unlocking game modes with slight variations from the original, but you still play!!!.

Of course I checked Arch Enemy out ;). I had a friend that was REALLY into northern death, grind and black metal. In fact, he was the only drummer in Seville who could actually play grind!!!!. He lend me some albums. Apart from Arch-Enemy he introduced me to Nasum, know them?, Grind-Death, awesome!!!!.

Hmm... First take it to another map to help a faster compile... Now... Now... Don?t touch the angle, just set the origin brush in the part of the coffin door that is almost in touch with the rest of the coffin and try ticking the Y flag only... Compile and try... Make it "Use only" and "Toogle" first until it works and then set it as you like...
If doesn?t work, try the map vault.

Now I read :). Which Darkness we are talking about?, And who says that the only good music from Europe relates to the NWBHMB???... Come on, there were real BAD bands in that generic_denomination. True that Iron Maiden and Judas Priest were leading the rock scene during, almost, 15 years, but we are forgetting some bands like Saxon or Uriah Heep, just to mention a few, not to mention Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Yes... There were GOOD rock bands before, in my honest opinion.
Nowadays still there are good bands: The Gathering, Cradle of Filth, Children of Bodom, Gamma Ray, Helloween, Stratovarius... Some of this bands, even I don?t like them all, made their career in the Early 80?s and are still a reference, more creative and alive that Iron Maiden theirselves!!!!.
By the way, ever tried to distinguish the different Iron Maiden eras???. You may be surprised to see that there are some songs that are actually identical to anothers in the same era, it?s something strange. Well, same happens with most Stratovarius records since Visions (let?s give them a little margin to be creative) and with other bands.

Hey 7th, thanks for the info ;).... By the way Jobabob (and in general all people), I managed the env_sounds so they work now (or at least seem to) just changing their radius, position and deleting some of them (that is, just changing everything), you were right, more than one env_sound is a sure bug...
And I also managed to do the level transition I wanted!!!. Now I can show how to do it to anybody who wants to :).

Hi!!!, it?s me again!... This time I came up with something really basic (I think) but I can?t manage it!!!. Basically I have one basic problem and one advanced problem... And then a single question but that?s another story ;) and will be told in another post.
-Well, my env_sounds work... But they work whenever they want. I?ve put 5 of them in a double sized door (5 in each side) and 2 of them in single doors (2 in each side... too). Sometimes they work, sometimes they don?t. It?s something very strange, guess it?s something about their placement, their radius value or even that their radius interfiere one with another... Frustrating to enter a huge room and hear your footsteps with echoes. Then enter again from the same place and don?t hear nothing. Can anybody help me with that?.
-And then... Due to a little mispreparation in my map I need to make a changelevel in a little room connecting two areas. How do I do it like in an Half Life outdoors area where the entering door closes, the level changes, and the other door (really in the other level) opens??. Also I?d need it to work in both ways. I think it is done with MM and triggering the changelevel... Anybody help?.
I?ve looked for it in the original HL maps but I can?t remember exactly where they were. If I did, it?s difficult to decipher it :P.

Hehe, I loved it. Still I enjoy if I hear it but my ears are now wider... By the way, I re-listened to Nexus Polaris, the first Covenant album and it?s REALLY recommendable!!!. Astennu on Guitars and Hellhammer on drums, not to mention Nagash on vocals and bass... And Sarah Jezebel Deeva in some songs... It?s really good musically. Try it if you can :).

Hehe, but the thing is more funny if he needs to follow you ;). I thought about an ambient generic and a scientist with the "Gag" on but then he would look as a ventriloque... For it to look right an animation would be needed (added) to the model, and that animation should be as long as the speech so think about an animation per speech.
Other possibility is to code another entity copying the code from the scientist and removing just those annoying phrases from the code... But some things are needed:
-Knoledge of C.
-The full SDK.
-A dll with the new code to be included with the mod... Once again, too big.

Investigating on Anthony?s post I found out something interesting... Aren?t you tired of the scientist?s cheesy talk?, haven?t you ever wished they could stay silent instead randomly saying "Who is responsible of this!!!"?... Well, this is made with the "Gag" flag but then the scientist won?t talk at all. Imagine you?re mapping something and need a scientist to talk JUST what you want him to talk with a Scripted_sentence... With Gag he won?t and without he may spawn some random stuff...
Seems quite difficult to solve and I found a way of radically prescinding of these phrases... Just locate them in the sentences.txt file and then put a // in front of them or replace their sound with an empty sound (just create one with the windows recorder or record some silence). They won?t say anything except of what you want.
And maybe I?m just telling stupid things and there is an easier and healthier way to make this (well, modifying sentences.txt implies distributing it with the map and therefore making a mod). Does anybody know something?. I need it although this method is working for now ;) (actually there?s only one scientist in the map and he only says what I want so there?s no possibility I want random phrases).

All right, map posted to the Example Vault... Check it out. With this the scientist will say something when you pick up the gun and another when the computer is broken.
The map quality is poor but I spawned it in a minute :P. Ah, don?t forget to blow his head up!.
PS: The scientist will, as all scientists, say stupid things randomly. You can turn this off turning the "Gag" flag on, but then they won?t react to scripted sentences. It?s really annoying, but it works this way. I wonder if I could delete the stupid things they say from "Sentences.txt"...

Scripted sequences will do the trick as they don?t interfiere with the monsters AI (they won?t attack till the script is done). Just make a scripted sequence for monster and put it where the destination point is. If you want a path I think you should make a scripted sequence per point, making each one triggers the next.

Figured out the problem...
SlayerA had reason but there was another problem. I made the elevator shaft (the hole, you know) too deep and seems light has its limits so here?s a piece of advice for novice mappers (like me):
"Don?t make things too high or too deep. You?ll regret".

Hmm... I?ll try that... A shaft is the "Hole" the elevator goes through, right? (you know, I?m not english). I try that... By the way, I think that scientist dance less when the elevator moves slower and tend to be hurt when the elevator moves fast (at least in narrow elevators!)... It?s funny that Valve left the dancing scientist there though I don?t remember any elevator you use with a scientist inside :).

It?s my first attempt to do an elevator with its doors, buttons and so on... Well, though I?ll not make the doors move with the elevator it?s cool anyway.
Here?s my problem:
I managed to lit the elevator (func_train) itself properly but miserably failed to make the mosnters inside it lit!. I?ll explain that: the player has to get inside the elevator with a scientist and when he gots there the scientist looks completely dark, as if there was no light there.
I put a light entity in the place where it should be, but doesn?t work. Can you please tell me what I?ve done wrong?.
Oh, and my scientific dances inside the elevator, guess I made it move too quick.

To make a new weapon you must code it... Refer to the other post you did. You can change the model and skin for your weapon but if you set the Glock to a Mega-Great-God-Laser skin and model it will still behave like... a Glock.
It?s hard to do. Maybe you can ask someone to do it for you or if you know C I can ask you to do it for me :P.

To insert a new model use Spirit, ask Vassy, think he uses it... It?s some sort of HL port with added stuff, new entities, multiple entities in a single brush... Don?t know, never used it as it ain?t compatible with classic HL (if you use this new stuff).
You can also get a Pak viewer and change the grunt model for the Barney model. This could work altough grunts have at least 3 or 4 different skins/models and Barneys just one.
To make new weapons and new action you must code it... If you know C download the SDK (or something like that, I have it, but stored in CD until I learn C) and get to work... See if with Scripted sequences you can make the monster to do what you want (if it?s simple and doesn?t happen to often).
You can show a model with the monster_generic entity but it will only respond to Scripted Sequences and, well, it doesn?t does much.

Yeah, this Scripted Sentences are the sentences YOU want THEM to say and must be triggered for them to work.
For example, you can have a breakable computer and a scientist, right?. You can make that once you break the computer the scientist goes nuts running to the computer and once he gets there, you can make him yell "No!!!!!" (which would make sense) or "Good morning Gordon" (which would make no sense but this is only something acting like a example)...
This would be done this way:
-The computer would trigger a scripted_sequence.
-The Scripted sequence would make him run to the computer (actually the place where the Scriped sequence is) and then would trigger the Scripted Sequence.
-The scripted sequence would make the scientist yell.
-You end up providing the scientist with a shot in his head.

If you want a little example map you can ask it :D.

Started to solve it!!!!... Well, I learnt that if the Impulse 197 doesn?t give a close node connection it doesn?t mean that a monster won?t follow the nodes... That was my problem with the door and now it works... I also was able to do a superb stair with your help, I?m willing to show it once the map is finished!!.
Feels good to get my scientist up and down the stairs :D. I?ll have to redo the whole node structure of my maps but, well, it?s worth the effort as now monsters behave better than they did before.

Well Anthony, put this in the General Mapping Stuff, it may be useful for much mappers :D... I?ll try to help you a little bit here and a little bit there (I mean, I?ll tell you the basics here but post this in the main forum, I?ll attract more attention).
You can have speeches in the game using an entity called scripted_sentence. This entity uses original Half Life recorded speeches (phrases in general) and you can assing any of them to any character building a conversation with a little timing.
One cool thing is that you can actually create your own speeches for the characters recording them yourself. It?s easy to do, I?ll tell you how or give some link in the main forum ;).
To see all the speeches (to hear the speeches, I mean) you?ll need a program like Qped to open the PAK file (don?t worry, a file containing most media stuff of the game) and there you will find the sounds and you will be able to hear them.

Strange, seems that if I open the door before the node stuff starts working (the player spawns right in front of the door :D) it works... Could it be my door is blocking the nodes as if it was a solid brush or something?.

Las ketchut made me VOMIT for almost a whole summer... I tried to hide from them but when I realised they were everywhere!!!, even my girlfriend got stuck with the song, it was almost a nightmare... Fortunately it?s over now but... Zombieloffe, where are you from???. If you ain?t from Spain, how far did these stupid girls get to????....
And for Sariborius... Once again, I envy you!!!. We were asked to pay around 120 euros (much money) to play in a mouse-house with another band (you know, split-time)... And that was a cheap place (believe me, we don?t have much money to pay for this stuff...).
Fortunately, we have managed to get our things to one of our members house, inside his garage. We will try to make it look like a place to play instead of a dirty hole, there?s much work to do!!!!.

In Spain the thing sucks!!!. I didn?t recieve a single music lesson (and I?m a music teacher now!!!!) in my whole life until I was 18 and went for a year to the conservatory!!!.
As a result of this, our musical taste is awful, we don?t have any critical sense for the things we hear and, well, our industry is full of nonsenses that have a short range of lifetime... Really boring. Don?t really have an underground state where music blooms, don?t recieve any official help... Even in my particular city (Seville, one of the most beautiful cities in Spain if we believe what they say) we don?t have a place to have gigs!!. Only got two little (LITTLE, more or less like 3 times my kitchen) concert rooms that demand abusive amounts of money for you to play there... Well, musical education and structures here suck.
I envy you ?cos I think that your underground state is quite alive... I also envy you ?cos I wanted to play drums!.

Hehe... I managed to do a Scientist runs down and upstairs :)... I think I?ll just duplicate those stairs with their nodes and then change their textures if necessary ;).
If I knew this before I could have saved a lot of time but learning is the fact of "Error?s experience"... By the way, my scientist is MAD, doesn?t want to go through a door even when the door is FULL of info_nodes... As for func_brushes things... Well, my nodes didn?t work if placed inside of func_breakables, maybe it?s a problem of node placing and maybe the don?t fall through func entities.

I highly reccomend you to listen to Nexs Polaris, it highly impressed me a few years ago, when it came out (parallel to Spiritual Black Dimensions, I think)...
And about music... Well, I listen to everything... Metal is my main field, in all its variants, classic, progressive, power, black, death, thrash... Also listen to rock oriented things, mainly Hard Rock and since I?m a guitar player I tend to listen to every guitar record that I know of :D... Also listen other kinds of music, outside metal... Classical, jazz and some other things in little bits. I like inventive stuff as well as like good musicians... By the way, I think that in your country you recieve a GREAT musical education in school. Is that true???.
