Of course they are, but not until the zombie apocalypse ;)

But in all seriousness, it is a horrible thing, but I wouldn't immediately claim he had a mental illness until a diagnosis. Sadly, some people's ideals and views on the world are not positive nor healthy. It doesn't take a mental illness for someone to have disruptive behaviour.

Plenty of shootings were perpetrated by 'normal' (although there is no such term) people who simply reach some logical (to them) conclusion that that is what they wanted to do.

But thoughts and prayers with all the familes.

You'd probably be better off Skewing them and then clipping them to how you've got it there sort of to make smoother curves. You should be able to get away with that.

Sand and some pretty intense heat would do that to you. it is set in Dubai after all, not exactly cool there...

Also, the demo won't really tell you what the game is about, from what I gather. The game is meant to be a morality hitter about warfare and I personally think it's a nice change from the over-glorified story of the CoD series.

I look forward to being a cheap ass and getting it for PS3 on eBay. Seriously I'm totally been too broke to buy games new. Makes me sad...

So just reading through this now, ignoring everyones boring wash/rinse/repeat discussion I've heard a thousand times and just reading E3 stuff.

I started out as 'Ok, Microsoft suck balls anyway, moving on.'

Then EA and Ubisoft made me very sad.

Then when Sony started I perked up, 'Yay, Sony!' but then was let down again but not so much.

Nintendo I no longer care about, they lost my interest with the Wii.

Yeah, I agree with Daub.

Very few other sites impose such a restriction and you'll find alot of people do it on alot of sites. They may be extremely active on one or two sites, but post their work in as many places as they can. In my opinion, that's good marketing.

Never played Diablo, never will even though I had a mate give me a copy of Diablo 2 I couldn't bring myself to say no :P But I don't like the content, not of my tastes.

So instead, I'm getting back into MW3 multiplayer and doing very well. I'm not winning hugely, not surprising since I havn't touched FPS multiplayer for half a year.

Otherwise, I'm waiting for Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Future Soldier, so I bought the entire Ghost Recon series and I'm playing though those. Good times.

I actually came up with an idea based on some phycological evaluations I read of American troops in Iraq and you play a honorably discharged soldier set in a induced sleep/hypnosis by a phyciatrist.

The story starts out subtle, like a little like a black and white dreamscape with some minor 'hurdles' with discoloured flashbacks of his version of events during his service. As you go, you unlock 'colours' which show more flashbacks, as they get grimmer and darker until you find the colour red, and something snaps and you backtrack through the dreamscape...

I won't go on as it gets pretty horrible and disgusting, but to me, that would be one of my most dedicated creations. Now I just gotta get up the nerve to make it. :

I also agree with what Bruce is saying but I do not agree with how and the instances in which he says it. And I definately do not believe it is always the right way to behave, especially on the internet.

He fails to grasp how people interpret his words, which is already especially hard since the internet is comprimised of text which cannot convey any sense of emotion, feeling or context. Since we only interpret up to 10% of someones meaning from the words alone, 90% of a text-based statement's context is missing, leaving it open to interpretation of the reader.

For example, his statement of:
Saying you're cheater and ragequiting isn't enough either
Has no meaning to me, because he isn't conveying a point of any sort nor is he making any discernable reference that I can discern. I myself would just take it as him failing to express himself the way he intended, others might take it as him being an ass, some may even think he's retarded (I'm definately not saying you are, but hopefully you get my point). This is the internet, the internet is one of the worst ways to communicate.

I would also like to point out that such blunt harshness is only suitable against people who can take it. As I'm sure most of us saw in the last few weeks, some people cannot handle discrimination and insults even when it's only against a certain aspect of their life (such as games they play, programs the like, or maybe even their mapping skills) and not them as a person.

You don't know anything much about the person you're talking to in public forums and such. And because text has little meaning behind it, people can readily interpret it however they feel it should effect them. A person suffering from depression or other negative emotional state, wether temporary or indefinate can take the response 'Terrible' as a personal attack.

Anyway, because of my job, this sort of thing really ticks me off and I think I've started rambling so I'll stop it here. But take some effort in your responses like you started doing in the last few pages of this forum. It takes you only a tiny amount of time and effort but it really does help as to wether people think you're a genuine guy, an ass, a retard or attacking them personally.

In other words: Be harsh if you feel you want or need to, but put some meaning in your words. That's all we want from you.

Nobody knows what the hell you mean. So, we assume you hate the entire thing, even though you're judging off few 'Work-In-Progress' screenshots. Alot of your previous comments are good and they actually help people, but saying 'Open your mind more' really makes no sense.

AMD and nvidia cards are roughly on the same level, but then you have nvidias really awesome GTX 500 series. Aside from the huge size of the actual card (it nearly didn't fit in my pavillion case) it's an amazing card that takes whatever I throw at it.

Oh no, the card was decent and it wasn't the actual card that stuffed up, just the software screwed with windows.

I've found Ati/AMD cards to be decent in their own right considering their worth (the one I had was only worth about $100). The clincher that made me upgrade to nvidia was the software. Like I said, the catalyst software manager program was awful. All my troubles began when I tried to update my drivers from stock build, the catalyst software crashed during install for no reason and gave me blue screen of death.
Posted 12 years ago2012-03-29 17:00:33 UTC
in New system, want opinions... Post #304759
And that's another thing, AMD's useless catalyst software would not work right on my system when I originally had an AMD card. It would crash randomly during the install, it refused to attempt to update, crashing every time I loaded it. Eventually, it bugged out my video card and games claimed they couldn't recognise my video card.

At least with nvidia I can download the actual updates manually instead on relying on disfunctioning management software.

I too got a Pavillion, they're not a bad machine in their own right. I got mine a little less beefier than yours, but for an extra $600 I threw a 1000w power supply and an awesome nVidia GTX 570. I might chuck an extra 4gb of ram in to beef it up to 8gb, but 10gb is extreme to start with.

For it's price, its not bad, but like most pavillions you've got a pretty bad graphics card right there. Even mine came with a better one than that by default.

Added the tunnel and also added full sequence to the traffic lights. I've got some ideas for later but it depends on how the map progresses. At this rate I think we may all need another pass to finish it off.

Okay, I might need to be bumped up a bit, because I'm on holidays, I'm doing a few things. I might point out the following:

On the 24th, I'm gone for the whole day to support a friend at his debut in the state amatuer matial arts tournament.

On the 28th, I'll be gone most of the day because it's my fiansee and I's 33rd monthly anniversary and it's been a while since we did anything special.

From the 29th to the 2nd of April, I am out of town vising my parents down south, it's a long trip so I'll be gone for a while with no internet access let alone computer time.

Sorry about that, but I've been planning all of these for a while now and I promised I'd visit my parents in January, I'm only two months late ;)

I've already tried what Bruce is suggesting. I was hired for a project and we used that same method. It failed for a few reasons, but mostly because people found it boring or didn't like to only work on one aspect. It also requires good management which is something you can't acheive over the internet and with a community mapping team.

in Copy and flipping not resulting good. Post #303850
Often with invalid brushes, they appear fine in Hammer, but they are not. Invalid could mean several things, but the most common are the following:

1: Two faces of the brush are on the same plane. So one flat side of the brush is actually two flat faces. This is not allowed.

2: A brush is concave.

3: One face is twisted or bent and is not perfectly flat. Often caused with vertex manipulation.

Hammer and the compile tools will do their best to fix it if you don't do it yourself. The results are unpredictable and often awful. You should seek out problem brushing in Hammer and rebuild them. It has nothing to do with your HL program.
Posted 12 years ago2012-02-29 23:59:37 UTC
in Vertices and Merging Post #303845
Hammer isn't as powerful as a 3D modelling program, you can't add vertices with vertex tool. The easiest way to add vertices is to use the clip tool to shave off a corner to create an additional vertex. You may need to retexture the new face though.

Also, the compiling programs do not merge brushes. You should always try to use as few brushes as possible. So if you can get away with using bigger, but fewer brushes, then it's better.

hotdog, where are you grabbing all this false information from?
From the official update forum post actually:

http://forums.svencoop.com/showthread.php?p=476471#post476471
Differences between detail brushes, world brushes and func_walls:
Compared to world brushes, detail brushes don't block vis or slow down vis process, and don't chop faces from world brushes, and don't cause the 'Ambiguous leafnode content' warning.
Also, since you don't actually seem to be doing any in-game tests and you just keep talking about it, I went and did it myself and made the following discoveries.

1. func_details do not block vis. I created a simple double back hallway which VIS could easily determine line-of-sight and stop the tank at the very end from rendering. With 'gl_wireframe 2' enabled, I can see exactly what the engine is rendering and the hallway made of regular world brushes was very successful:
User posted image
The walls made of func_details did not block vis at all and the tank was clearly visible:
User posted image
Unless there's been an update that I don't know about, then they currently do not block vis whatsoever.

2. I was wrong and func_details do block light and cast shadows. However, when I made a wall in my test map a func_detail, I got an unexpected bleed effect from the red strobing light behind it, but not the other wall, which was made of just regular world brushes.
User posted image
Apologies that the screens are so dark, I decided not to add regular lights because I wanted to see how the lighting went with the strobing lights above my tanks.
