You'll end up with invalid structures if you do that.

Yeah, I tried that one time but gave up on smoothing the tunnel.
The only thing I could think of was to do this:
User posted image
But that's really just exactly what Snarkpit tells you to do. And this method only works with 2 pieces; any more and you get a plethora of errors.
Unfortunately this also results in the rounded part being thinner than the rest of the tunnel, and you can't really move the vertices around lest you risk building invalid structures.

As far as I know you can only either make the water more transparent, or use a darker texture.

I feel like you're afraid of having your map being called blocky, so you're trying to hide it with complicated textures. All in all, it needs to look a lot more simple.

It looks like something right out of Black Mesa, and makes me think of something you might see in an official Sven Coop campaign.
You've done a good job with varying the lighting in such a small area. Some subtle env_glows would really make the light shine even more.
I feel like the ladders and rails should be made of brushes instead of transparent textures.
The water looks too bright in such a dark place. Go ahead and swap that out for a darker texture.
You might be overusing that yellow stripe trim texture by applying it to every single trim in the map. The catwalk and concrete edges are nice, but I don't like it on the thresholds.

Your wads and your texlights have nothing to do with each other. Regardless of whether you use the entity or a rad file, the same thing is happening: if a face is applied with a texture that has a name that matches one of the texture names in the list, the face will emit light.

The only reason you would include a rad file is if you were posting your map's source files. Its not needed to run the map, and it won't affect the map if you have a different file by the same name, because texlights, like all other lights, are precalculated. The same goes for texlights in Source.

And don't get pissy at us for calling out your post. Nobody ever said anything about including texlight information in a bsp, so how were we supposed to deduce that from what you posted?
You also asked a question and ended it with a period.
You also said that you are lazy because you aren't good with lights.

I also discovered the secret of making realistic wires. It is called "patience".

It's a lot more convenient for the viewer to not have to wait for the rest of the page to load, especially since the image is the last thing to load on websites like Photobucket and Imageshack. It's also a lot more convenient to not have to click a downsized image on a web page to view the whole picture. Nobody ever actually views the cropped image. Ever.
Less clicks, less waiting, more happy time.

That's why it's better to link to an image directly.

Captain: Underground Communication is the most rap-intensive album by a long shot, I totally understand what you mean. Some of my favorites like Carried Away (still my all time favorite) are on that album, but all in all it's a pretty schizophrenic playlist and I honestly skip right over tracks 3, 7, 9, and 11 every time because I just can't stand them.

The first album, Mesmerizing the Ultra, is mostly instrumental, especially the second CD(which used to be a separate album). It's much easier to get into than the his other stuff, but it's old and he doesn't really do anything like what's on this album anymore.
The latest album, Cozza Frenzy, is a lot like the melodic half of Underground Communication with some rap elements thrown in a handful of songs.

The EPs vary, but I'd say the Heads Up EP is worth checking out for the Roustabout remix alone. The rest of the EP is kinda meh IMO.

Go ahead and run through the album previews to see what you'll like beforehand.

Edit: I forgot to give Sean Hodges a mention in my first post. This is the guy that has been doing music for Krinkel's Madness flash series for a while. He's done some pretty good techno, but there's not a lot to choose from.

I didn't know I struck a nerve with that post.

I don't really listen to bands. System of a Down is pretty great, and Dream Theater is fantastic.
But I much prefer electronic music -- most notably dubstep, as I'm sure I've made very evident in the past.

Above all, Bassnectar is my very favorite.

Other favorites include The Avalanches(turntablism), Mistabishi(DnB and grime) and Broken Note(dubstep and DnB), but each of them only has 1 album.

I don't look for music or lyrics that I can relate to, I look for a sound that evokes a particular emotion.

Just vm the wires, at least that's how I would make them.
Simply VMing gives inconsistent width. You don't get a lot of wiggle room because some parts might be 1 unit wide, and other parts might be too fat or way too thin of you move the vertices around too much.
There's a nice trick to keeping a fairly consistent width around corners or large curves.

You're in good company, mon capitan. I experimented with 2 short-lived cubicles, one fantasy-themed and another real-world themed, before settling on my current cubicle.
From that screenshot, I can sort of tell you're having troubling finding things to fill your cubicle with, no offense. If you don't have a general idea of what you want your finished cubicle to look like and the theme you're working with just doesn't feel right, it's probably be best to scrap it and try something else.

Also, I fucking love making these wires.

Gimp doesn't even seem to support layers that aren't rectangles. Reshaping them into a trapezoid just results in a bigger rectangle, so it can't be resized back into the smaller square and look the way it needs to look.

Edit: Yeah, this isn't worth the trouble. I'm doing something else.
Thanks for your help guys.

in Putting a circle in a skybox Post #279760
You can't just take a vertex and move it around in image editing like you can in 3D modelling unless I'm missing something :zonked:
It has to start with the trapezoids and become squares later, otherwise the circle becomes 4 "bumps" when the cube is formed.

Milkshape didn't work. The polygons distorted the image when I resized them... should have expected that.

Going to check out this skypaint thing now.

Edit: Damn, skypaint is archaic. I can only use MS Paint brushes with it, and that just won't do at all.

Well I have Terragen, but this is a simple, fading-color skybox so Terragen is no good.
And models aren't good for skyboxes either, since the lighting on them is inconsistent thanks to smoothing and whatnot.

I'm trying to do this by taking screenshots from Milkshape's view panels now, so we'll see how that turns out.

Edit: Ninja'd by Captain. I'll check that out if Milkshape doesn't give me the results I want.

I need a ring to be visible below the player, and I can't use a flat line across the front, back, left, and right images because that will make a square.

If I could work with the vertices (like in modelling software), I know that this could be done by doing this...
User posted image
...and then moving the vertices back so that there's 6 squares again.
But I don't have anything that can do that.

How do you do this in Photoshop or Gimp?

People like to have something they can physically keep track of. The internet has always been best used for exchanging information, I can't see it ever being more practical to store all your files on a corporate server than in the PC you're accessing said files with. They're my files, I want them here with me; that's the gist of it.
It's nice and futuristic, probably really cheap too, but I feel that it's just an impractical core concept.
