I created a banner before you did. What are sponges useful for anyway? Also, you and Tawnos discovered an underwater city somewhere, where is that?

Is there no other way of exploring the map from topside besides asking Atom to make screenshots of the world? :(

[EDIT] Also, I think Rimrook also isn't the first to make houses in that taiga forest. I just spotted a tree house, but I was there making one first yesterday when I traveled a bit from my place. I intend to connect these areas with a road.

A topside map would really be helpful...

[edit] Also, Atom, please install some kind of protection/lock plugin. On one server I played you could use a diamond cube to protect an area of your choice from destruction.

The moon always keeps the same face relative to what point on earth you are, because it has a rotation period equal with the revolution one.

And you are photographing it from the southern hemisphere. If you don't believe me google "moon photographed from southern hemisphere" and then for northern one. You will see that the Tycho crater appears on the upper part of the moon for you, while for me it is on the bottom.

It's really not hard to understand. It's actually funny that you two jumped in the "speculative science" bandwagon without even looking clearly at the images :P.

I was wandering around and I discovered a train line. It's always intriguing at what's lying ahead, so I followed it!

Soon I discovered an underground complex, that I first thought was spanning just a few blocks.
My jaw was dropping more and more as I perceived the monstrous dimensions of this hidden place. It all culminated with the underground farm, and when I arrived here:

I don't know what to do about winamp either, as I'm really used to it. I just performed a fresh install of the OS, and now everytime I listen to a stream on winamp after 5 minutes or so it crashes and the audio gets borked(I hear a constant piece of music repeated, and there's no way to get rid of it unless you restart windows, not even restarting the windows audio service from services). It says something about "BEX" error code, with a dll related to MIcrosoft C++ redistributable 2005.
These redistributables are the biggest piece of shit in computing, because they're so fragmented.
I installed foobar, but it's... spartanic.

Your efforts are useless if you don't go to MyComputer>Properties>Advances settings>Performance, tick all of those off. Then switch to the classic windows theme.

Now you have performance oriented machine.
But seriously, even if you're running a core2duo, which is ancient at this point, the performance boost is unnoticeable.

Then it should be switched to an open-source model for a select few TWHL members who are able and willing to code a better platform for the community.
There certainly is stuff to be improved, and the only major modifications I've seen on TWHL since 2008 are the way new posts are displayed on the front paged and the increased PM inbox limit.

This shouldn't be taken as an obligation, but as willingness to improve :).

in Baking GI to textures in 3d software Post #319516
I'm not able to help you, but this post made be curious.

How would you use baked textures in Goldsource without any sort of engine lighting? Your purpose is to not make the "engine" calculate any lights, but the fact is that it doesn't, the lighting is calculated by the radiosity program.
One solution is to have some sort of minimum ambient white lighting, but that defeats you purpose. The second solution is to not run the radiosity at all, but that means a full-lit map. This might work, but... it seems like too much hassle.
What is the catch here?

Plot twist: Rimrook is an intelligent response machine using bleeding edge AI, tested on this board.
Everybody's amazement of his work is just another confirmation that we're one step closer to singularity.

Back to the subject: Noxx, if tracking down those brushes fails, it's mostly because this problem is a structural one. You have to visually search for a zone that "has a leaf which isn't entirely convex, so that at one position within the leaf you can look out of the leaf and see back into it.".
Try changing some brushes into func_detail. You can also isolate areas by using the cordon tool.

Oh trust me - it won't. I strongly believe this. The PC will disappear once we'll have contact lenses capable of immersing us directly in the virtual world, using projected keyboards and mouses or something like that.
But by that time( and I believe a good decade or more will pass until this), we'll get accustomed to this.
