Back in New Vegas. This is kinda my second playthrough but I never actually finished the game with my Urby character.

This is my compulsory female alter ego game which I tend to do in RPGs. Meet Aluben. She's 20 years old, likes hunting and enjoys long strolls in the Mojavé... Oh yeah, and she's a cannibal.

Is it that easy to make a 3D game engine? Is there something called Free Simulator Maker 2014 or something like that? The strangely most mundane activities are popping out as simulators (that turn out to be shit). Some keep pushing out things like Road Construction Simulator. Really, what is this? What is going on? Are game devs so dry out of ideas that they just pick a random occupation and turn it into a sim game?

Tomorrow I'll start writing Traffic Light Bulb Changer Simulator 2015. Because why would I come up with something good when the world already has all the ideas just outside my window?

Good lord sir, certainly not! I'll have you know that there are just as many developers out there who are hard at work butchering much-loved, classic games into modern day remakes as well!

You'd think so, but apparently those 'job simulator' games are extremely popular in western Europe.
It's an unconventional market, but that just means it's ripe for the taking, I guess.

Some of those simulator games provide unintentional, hilarious gold as well.

On a more serious note, provided the simulation is good, I think it's a great opportunity to let people in on the potential joys of doing tasks that they ordinarily wouldn't get to do. Games are about escapism, after all.

The WiiU is brilliant. Make sure you try the new version of Wii Sports Golf. It went from being the worst Wii Sports game on the original console to the best one on the WiiU.

I've got New Super Mario Bros and New Super Luigi Bros as well, so those will be what I tackle after 3D World. Though I have to say, 3D World completely smokes them. The New Super Mario Bros series feels far too safe for me: I've played all the games in the series, and they feel like very shallow imitations of the far better work they did in the 16-bit era.

3D World (and Land) on the other hand, are brilliant. Effortless to pick up and play, but full of imagination and sheer delight. Granted, the Mario games are just too easy these days... I've cruised to World 6 with a stock pile of about 50 lives.

How I wish Nintendo had released the Wii U instead of the Wii. I hope it gets out of its current slump, like the 3DS did, because there's some massive potential for it to be completely amazing.

Phenomenal game. Not long - I finished the main story and all the side quests in around nine hours, but I loved every minute. Captures the feel of the show so flawlessly that there are points where you realise you are just watching South Park and there is nothing wrong with that what-so-ever.

I recommend getting the most expensive plastic surgery option for optimum lulz.

I managed to set up Kerbal Space Program with my joystick, and I'm quite liking flying planes with it. If I had an Oculus Rift it would make the IVA view really worthwhile for fancy flying.

I do find it unfortunate however that there is no option to set multiple control schemes. The kind of control I want from a rocket is very different from the kind I would want from a plane. I can fly rockets well using a keyboard anyway, but it would be nice to be able to attempt a Mun landing in IVA view with a joystick without having to exit and change all the controls.

I've yet to come close to mastering any aspect of Kerbal Space Program. I haven't even bought the darn thing yet: still having a blast with the demo. It probably doesn't help that I skipped all the tutorials. The best I've managed so far is getting a rocket into orbit around the Earth. Haven't even come close to reaching the Mun yet!
AJ AJGlorious Overlord
Posted 10 years ago2014-04-19 02:07:35 UTC Post #318798
I would certainly recommend the full version. I just had a look to see what the demo is like and there is so much stuff you are missing out on.
Congratumalations on the orbit though! If you think you might need it, there are some very good tutorials by Scott Manley on YouTube.

And speaking of getting things into orbit, I almost managed to get a space shuttle into orbit today. It is a lot more difficult than it sounds, as everything about the design is unbalanced, so you have to be clever with the way you place everything - note the angle of the engines in the screenshots below.
Even with that, when the fuel gets low you have to reduce the throttle, as the centre of mass has shifted so it's harder for the reaction control system to overcome the resulting torque. The shuttle glides down like a charm though. I just need to move the file into the spaceplane hangar folder so that I can make some adjustments, as the SPH allows you to place things with mirror symmetry rather than radial as in the VAB. That will allow me to make the wings less stupid, and it will also let me place the RCS ports a lot better.

I've watched a lot of KSP videos done by Robbaz. While they aren't strictly that informative, they're ridiculously entertaining. I love the scope of the game, though: being able to send a Kerbal to a distant planet, then mount a rescue operation is amazing. :D

So, if you're not playing Space Engineers yet you're seriously missing out. Imagine it as a cross between Minecraft and DayZ, in space.

All structures and ships are completely player-created in-game. All structures and ships, down to every individual steel plate are realistically damage-modelled. Even moon-sized asteroids are fully destructible, allowing you to tunnel into them and create asteroid bases.

Fairly realistic physics affect everything. Momentum will carry you infinitely in space if there is nothing to slow you down.

You can create ships from the size of a large car to the size of the Empire State Building. You can then dock SMALLER SHIPS inside your larger ships. You can cut them in half with mining tools and watch as the two halfs float away from each other. You can make daring jetpack repairs to your engine while your opponent banks round for another missile strafe. It's incredible.

Might have already posted this, but: Space Engine.

Space Engine lets you freely explore an accurate, photorealistic simulation of the visible universe. The location and appearance of known objects are depicted accurately. The rest is filled in procedurally based on physical laws.
