in any1 know what i should make? Post #15173
Map your school/college/workplace. Then go postal. ;-) If you remember your dreams, they can be a good source of mapping ideas.

You can make a sphere by creating a tetrahedron (3 sided spike). Then make 19 copies and rotate them to all fit together in a central point. Sort of like segments of an orange but not. :-) This will make an isosahedron (20 sided polygon) which looks kind of spherical.
Probably best to use the CTRL-M method of rotation but I don't know the angles. 72 degrees probably. And some horiz/vert flipping would speed things up.

But yeah, the messy way will work too. What Zappy said. :-)

in Escalator damage :-( Post #13290
Yep, I found some though Google (I searched before - must have typed it in wrong).

One was a prefab at http://www.ejoop.com/pfl/showlist.asp?catid=8
They seem to have used path_track rather than func_train. I haven't looked into that one yet so I don't userstand the mechanics of it, but the steps themselves are illusionary. Transport up the slope is by means of an invisible conveyor belt placed just above the steps. It looks like that's the way to do it.
Mine looks nicer though. :-)

Another one is in the map at http://pw1.netcom.com/~royalef/gctmap.htm but it can only be seen through a fence and it looks like it's just a nicely textured coveyor belt.

in Escalator damage :-( Post #13272
Hi, I'm new here. I started half-life mapping yesterday so I'm a bit of a newb but it all seems pretty straightforward (I used to map in Doom and MapInfo).

I've created an escalator using a series of blocks, each one acting as a func_train and cycling around in a loop. It looks perfect but there's one problem - when I ride the escalator I suffer damage. The "damage on crush" variable is set to 0, but if I'm on a step and touching the step in front I get injured. About 4 points of damage. It also knocks the step I'm on out of rhythm slightly.

Anyone got any ideas? Has anyone successfully made an escalator?
