It's not so much the equipment behind it all or how much DOF you have in your pictures, it's the mere attention to detail and preservations of detail I always see and regardless how how many pictures you post you still manage to capture the same level of quality as you had before, never rehashed or repetitive [In my opinion], I was mostly joking and I can't speak for the entirety of twhl but for the most part [No offense to anybody else posting, or not posting] But I'd yet to see much of the quality you bring on a somewhat regular basis.

Didn't want to sound like a complete ass kisser but if it came to a contest it would still be fair, I was just poking fun at it. [And at the same time relatively serious because you easily have a eye for detail that I don't quite have, but it isn't my intention to turn this into a 'me and you' comparison.]

If Striker enters then it wouldn't be much of a competition. Would be fun though.

Also kind of disappointed that the Watch image had the reflections showing the camera [And me] in it, doesn't ruin the image but I'm bloody picky with that, ruins the 'clean look' in my opinion.

And I get what you mean about the repetition, I would go for a clean look but I think for most of what I shoot the table compliments the grungy look of the style I'm trying to achieve, and I've also tried looking for some proper lights but we don't really have that many that are unused.

I'm not saying people with disabilities and mental issues or whatnot should be killed off [Hitler], but it's the pure assholes and pricks [who have no disabilities or handicaps but just choose to be complete fucktards] that are the ones who are considered 'stupid' in this context and they are the ones who do far more harm then good.
You can't council those people and you can't reason with them. The absolute least that could happen is they shouldn't be able to reproduce, but removing them from the gene pool would probably be best,

And no, I didn't get and still don't get your point. I just really wanted to clarify my homosexuality when opportune was highest.

It's actually really cute to see how you think you can effectively decide what others are allowed to discuss or aren't on a internet forum you have absolutely no authority on, you'd probably make a great husband.

If anything this thread should be plugged because obviously we are simply incapable of discussing ANYTHING related to current events in politics without causing a complete trainwreck.

Stupid people breed. Stupid parents teach their children how to be stupid. Stupid children grow up and incite stupidity. Stupid people breed. Stupid parents teach their children how to be stupid. Stupid children grow up and incite stupidity.
And all we can do is just let them be stupid, can't kill them off for the good of mankind because of 'everybody is equal' bullshit, and they just keep fucking reproducing.

Yeah I get what you mean, I came close to scrapping it and I just figured what the hell and opened it up and attempted to retouch it to a point where it could be looked at without vomiting. I think I partially succeeded, eh.

All the pictures I took of it ended up being crap and I just found that one to have the best lighting of them all [Even though terrible.], so I used that one as the base.

A well lit area will cause massive distractions away from what I am trying to showcase and is a terrible idea. I am using a [crappy homemade] lighting system. The reflections [on the table at least] are intentional.

If you're referring to the old camera picture, I actually pointed a really shitty flashlight at it to attempt to get some more detail out of the shot, but it didn't really work...

That one was more about attempting to get an artistic direction for it then the lighting, which was honestly terrible :P

If you're running WON, you will want to update your half life to latest version before you install SOHL, otherwise you'll get a 'Your executable has been modified' error and you will have to reinstall and do the same procedure anyways.

EDIT: Apparently deleting 'halflife.dat' might remedy this error [For any type of modifications] but I'm unsure. You're seriously better off updating.

Yes, I did word that pretty poorly, but my point is this is a gaming network, I would truly love to see how well they'd fair against something like a bank or gov site.

It is indeed big business [PSN], but I wasn't saying it wasn't, I was saying IN COMPARISON to something like a bank or a GOVT.
I can't come up with any friendly statistics, But I'm relatively sure you'd have a lot more accounts then you would on PSN, and there would sure as hell be a lot more profitable amounts you'd get than you would on PSN.

I don't give a damn about consoles, I'm just wondering why somebody who obviously has something as a standard and refuses to accept anything below it, would actually get something below their standards. Where is the logic? You know it's going to be 'crap' to you.
I just included the words "PC" and 'console' because it would be easier to understand, remove them and you get the same explanation.

And it is a very small business compared to the much larger databases you could attack instead, and you would get far more useful information then some 13 year old kiddie with 20$ in his bank account supplied by his poor mom. Quality > quantity.

Where the hell did you get that impression from striker? I never said you can't post point-and-shoots, I said I refuse to MAKE point-and-shoots because they aren't my style of photography, who says photography needs a focal point?
I just don't make photography without one.

I have my own sense of quality assurance and If I'm making a model, I don't post pictures of it about 30 minutes in, I wait until I've completed at least the overall model, does this mean I think some novice who doesn't even understand the concept of booleans shouldn't be able to post his work? Fuck no, I just refuse to release something when I know I can do better.

You can still take great pictures inside PB, just get a light setup with some lamps and put stuff on a table like me. :P

No he's referring to the non HL2 screenshots where there is little definition, like anti aliasing only... Used in a bad way.

Also, blame ati for the lack of AA in the HL2 screenshots, I would have set some at the time but AMD can't be bothered to code some proper drivers for vista so I get stuck with windows defaults. I could buy a new graphics card but you see, I'd have to rebuild an entirely new machine to do that.

Actually, after looking at all the previous 'landscape' or 'scenic' photographs I get the exact same feeling: Point-and-shoot feeling, I'll look at this:
User posted image
And it's a good photo, but I don't know what I'm supposed to look at, no clear subject, but something like this:
User posted image
Is far more appealing because right off the bat you know exactly what you're looking at and what the image is sending to you.

I'm just bad at scenery shots and won't bother because I don't find them appealing.
And you're absolutely right, that was a terrible comparision i posted before, and in return, here's a better picture I took while at the beach:
User posted image
I don't know about you, but I'd say it's relatively decent, but again even for my own picture I will still see it without a clear subject and even though it's framed relatively well [Nothing outside of the area of focus to distract you], I still dislike it.

On second thought, care to clarify 'outdoor shots'?
Anything beyond actual scenic shots would be easy to do and in that case, oops?

I never said DOF was even remotely related to taking scenery shots, I was using dof as a example as to how it can separate subject from backgroundforeground, and again, great photos but I am lost as to what you are showcasing or showing me, what am I looking at, just whatever happens to be in the photograph?

As I've said several times in the past; I do not take photography seriously, I am not getting payed to do it. I live in a urban city, I don't exactly have vast stretches of beautiful land just outside my front door to take pictures of, and wasting gas money to go to a beach or such, just to take some 4 MP pictures and leave? No thank you.

Beyond that, why does it matter? I'm just a person on the internet posting pictures, does it really bother you so much that I won't expand my horizons to take pictures of fields and trees?

Here's another example of control: Overblowing, in this picture you can clearly see the sky is blown out so you can't see it, this draws your attention away from the unnecessary details and onto the truck, although the camper itself is overblown partially, it's still a somewhat fair example. I just so happened to get lucky to have this picture turn out this way, but as I pointed out, the camper is overblown as well. There are many ways to create focal points, and I'm not saying DOF or overblowing are magical elements that you have to have, but they HELP.
User posted image
You're right, you don't need control to make good images. But it helps to make one with an actual focal point.

It's a good photo, but all I see is a 'point-and-shoot' moment, no clear subject, and I find myself looking to see what I'm supposed to be looking at in that photograph. There is no defined focal point.

Let me repost Psilious's picture:
User posted image
This is a point-and-shoot. What are you supposed to be looking at? You find yourself looking at everything but the picatchu thing, looking at the pen, the monitor, and the monster logo. There's nothing defining the subject.

Even then, notice the slight blur on the pen, this draws your attention away from the text on the pen and on the tip of the pen, even though this isn't the intended purpose of the shot, it still gives a good idea of what I'm referring to.

Mind you, scenery shots are more about the framing then the actual effects that go behind it, but I stay behind what I stated before: This camera I have is the worst type of point-and-shoot camera. It doesn't even function great as a point-and-shoot, and anything beyond that it is simply not capable of doing.

For them to be fair game, I'd say you'd have to add several spacings of some form so that you can't go on to read the spoiler while you're brain is still processing the previous line which would probably say "!!SPOILER WARNINGS!!", and then the strikeout would make it so you can't 'accidentally' read the spoilers for say, skimming the page to see if you missed any new posts, but that's all up to PB to decide.

Or maybe PB could just code in a 'only visible highlighted' text color, or [hide] tag and that would work too.
