in Daft proverbs Post #159512
"a good here is better than two you'll have it" : it is a proverb who says it's much better when somebody who owes you something he/she gives you back once right now, instead of telling you dozens of times you will have it later, and more, much more ...
We have one saying here in Norway that says "det er bedre med ?n fugl i h?nden enn ti p? taket" or something like that. Translated to English: "it's better to have one bird in your hand than ten on the roof". :P

in Google Maps. Post #118140
Hmm, I thought Valve had their offices in the Back of America Tower in Seattle:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Bank+of+America+Tower,+Seattle,+WA&ll=47.604393,-122.329908&spn=0.006717,0.010131&t=k&hl=en

I do however think that the location you found was their previous offices (as for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valve_Software says they're based in Bellevue).

MSN Messenger 7.0 has always crashed on me, so I'm stuck with Windows Messenger for now. No loss really, I don't really need nudge, winks and an ugly teletubby interface just to get in touch with my friends.

IRC for the go! :)

Hmm, I have mine at ~1500 startsize and ~3000 maxsize. As long as you have diskspace you can virtually set it as high as you want.

in Reflective Floors Post #87299
Hmm, I think someone made a reflective floor material once. IIRC he just modified a water material to have no refraction.

From http://www.valve-erc.com/srcsdk/Materials/water.html:
$reflecttexture (texture name)
Texture to use for reflection. For real-time reflections, use ?_rt_WaterRefraction?.
Hmm, something like this on a specular material..?

in entity grouping Post #80557
If you for example want a door handle model to move with the door, give the door a name and enter that name in the door handles "Parent" field. Also, there isn't anything called func_trigger, it's called trigger_once or trigger_multiple. It doesn't matter what direction you pass through them from, because they are triggered when you touch them.

in More Friendlies Post #80442
Are you sure ai_ally_manager isn't for spawning a constant amount of allies? (SPOILER: Like on the Nexus rooftop...) If you look at the entity help page for it, it has lots of inputs/outputs dealing with spawning... Whatever, haven't messed around much with friendlies yet, all I've done this far is some metrocops to drive over with the buggy ;)

Hmmm, I'm not entirely certain about this, but I think npc_citizen's will follow you when they see you (at least they did for me). As far as I remember, you can select weapons, sex, model, etc. in the entity properties too...

in Adding sound in maps Post #80436
Sounds more like a bug with the game, not with the map... Have you tried running the map manually (Steam > Play Games > Half-Life 2 > map blahblah in console) instead of letting Hammer run it for you?

in prop_detail's arent showing up Post #80434
As Rabid said, prop_detail is for extremely cheap objects like grass etc., while prop_static is for static part-of-the-world objects. If you want the model to animate or move, you have to use prop_dynamic instead.

If you're going to have it on a flat surface, you could try rotating the entity forward/backward and left/right, so the ragdoll drops different.

in Gordon goes Labs! Post #54513
At http://collective.valve-erc.com/index.php?go=hammer_beta : "There is an issue that occurs when you load a second map in Hammer. As explained by Matt, the textures aren't being re-generated for opengl (glGenTextures), so the models think they have a texture loaded and call glBindTexture, but get nothing, as the textures arent in there. Just something to be aware of, if you run into the problem."
