Decals can be used as textures. However they look pretty ugly as the white background turns black in-game.

Yes. Always give the creators credit for their work. You may use their textures as long as you don't charge any money. Even better, e-mail and tell them that you want to use their textures. I'm sure most will give you permission. Most want you to use their textures, you see.

As a christmas present to TWHL, I'll add how to modify game strings too. But not until 24.12 :lol:

(What's a string???)
In the meny, next to the new game button there's a line saying "start a new game" That's a string. You could change that into "Begin a new adventure".

Ok. Found it out:

Find a picture you want:
Restrictions:
320x240 256 colors BMP. Name it Logo.bmp

Next Get qlumpy which was included in the HL SDK SDK/Texture Wad Tools. Then get cached.ls (Note it's LS). That's a script for qlumpy and can be found in SDK/SHELL. Now it's get a bit buggy. qlumpy is an old dos program and it caused trouble on my XP Professional.
But run Command prompt and you'll be fine.

Place both cached.ls and qlumpy on C:
Create the following folder system: C:quivermoddirgfxshell and place the logo.bmp there in shell.
Create the folder C:moddir and place a already existing cached.wad
there because qlumpy can't create wads!!! Copy Hl's or create a new one with Wally.

How to make folders? Right-click on empty space inside a drive (ex. C:)
and select New/folder and rename it.

Use command prompt and write:
C:qlumpy cached.ls
Then get the Wad in moddir and put it in the mod directory of your choice.

Wasn't so hard? :cool:

As long as it's not included in the original installation of HL, or the disks it came with, we can't have a competition about it. Everybody HAS TO HAVE Access to the same resources. IT HAS TO BE THAT WAY!!! :o

Ok It's the Cached.wad file. There's two files in it. CONBACK and LOADING. However Wally couldn't open these. But I'm looking into it but Andy won't be able to post or update any new tutorials until next year.
I'll just post them here in this tread until then.

I'm working on it....

I'm using enter1.spr for a teleporter. Set it's rendering to glow, frame rate to 10 and scale to 1. The teleporter begins to shrink as you get closer to it in-game and enlarges when you back off. How can I keep it's size constant?

CS map comp??? Here? Then it would be more like TWCS.
No offence, but you're really limited in CS. I quit mapping for it. I wanted to create some fun so I began to experiment i HL.

But CS is meant for MP. So the judging would be pretty plain in the end and there would just be some ways here and there. Then a bomb site or some hostages. Not really a challenge which the competitions are meant to be. :|

Making a new weapon in HL is more difficult than it sounds.
Reasons?
1. HL models needs to be simple. Otherwise the engine can't handle them.
2. They need to fit exactly into the holders hands.
3. They must be coded properly. Think of a gun where the bullets come out 3 inches above the chassi. ;)
4. It's time consuming to make a good model.
5. You need two models for each weapon. One for the world which will be seen from other players and one which the player will hold in 3D.

And there's more, but I don't want to spoil your gun-making.

OK I got the file exported successfully but then I target it in worldcraft with the ambient_generic and when I the test the map it gives me a warning. The map begins to load but the sound isn't found and the processing... comes up and tries to do something for eternity.

What could be wrong? :confused:

Everytime I try to export a sound from the pac0.pac the sound end up as a 0 kb file and unplayable. I'm using Wally.

Isn't Wally capable of doing this or is it something else?

Ok, I going to make a mod that involdves all kinds of mod making including new enemies, weapons, game functions, program code, anything. As I go I could also write tutorials on how to do these things.

But then again. My tutorials doesn't seem to accepted very well :badass:

For the doors: Use a func_door_rotating. Don't forget a brush covered with the texture origin or else the door will fly into who know's where?
Select both and set func_door_rotating.

As for cut_scenes: I don't really know... Yet.
Difficult.
Someone else can help you with these.

A nice way to get rid of leaks is to build a solid block that covers every other brush in the map. Then start expert compiling and tick only the first entry, csg and bsp. Then begin to decrease the block size slightly. Take one part at a time. And run compiling everytime you do that.
