I never heard a reason why someone prefers openGL or software!

In my opinion software looks better(not blurry) but it has tons of bugs like that I managed to see through an entity brush another brush. :nervous:

Software looks like crap. It's all blurry.
OpenGL is better, and it runs better.

OpenGL @ 1600x1200 @ 32-bit is the only proper way to play HL.

Looks fine for me! OpenGL is smudged! Its just not pixelated! Its called "smooth" and is nice to the eye. The only good thing about Software is the water looks more realistic (But doesnt have fog :( )

w00t! I just got a monitor big enough to do that, and hl really doesn't look much better at that resolution, but hl2 sure does.

19 inches of pure and violent half-life.

Now on the topic, like elon said, software is buggy, and therefore doesn't deserve to be used.

Mines 20inch, did have a 2nd monitor at 19inch, but my brother made his explode and I had to give up my 2nd one to him!

Question, can Half-Life be forced past 1600*1200 in OpenGL mode?
I know my hardware can cope, but can Half-life?!

I think mine might have a higher refresh rate than 60, even at 1600x1200, but I haven't been able to get information about it yet (damn dialup!)

And software isn't half bad when that is all that is available to you.

My dual 24" widescreen Sony Triniton's will do 1600x1200 @ 160hz no problem. :lol:

if software runs slow,then you have a crappy computer. With software mode, allof the graphics processing is done by the cpu. (duh) as well as game logic, so if you have a fast comp, then it should actually be pretty fast!

software water is HORRIBLE! no waves, barely transparent even on texturemode with ammount 20...

And its pixelated.

OpenGL pwns. End of story.

Trust me, i used software for AGES before igot a better graphics card

Frag, of course they are CRT's. There was two clues in my post, first, CRT response rate is measured in hertz, not ms, and finally Triniton is a brand of CRT tube.

technically, lcds have a refresh rate too, they never bothered to redesign the hardware, but I can't remember the details. Suffice it to say that I read it somewhere. Also, I'm not a huge fan of Sony, so i'm not "up" on their products. I've got a vaio pcg-k45, good computer, bad laptop. So I don't care about sony.

Software is horrible. Only supports a max of 800 wpolys. That bluriness is called texture filtering and its supposed to do that. Just like in real life how stuff blurs if you get right up to it.

Software doesn't blends the pixels of the textures, and therfore looks hirrible. Also it doesn't render sprites or things such as fence textures correctly, also it messes with your frame rate, making the game look choppy.
