2 screenies of a early work in progress, a space station.

It's for garry's mod, wich is all about fun.
But I don't wanna make it look crap.

Advice and Ideas are welcome.

Advice in general is also nice..

NOTE : That shiney thing in the second screenshot is a teleportal. :P
EDIT : I just noticed the screenshots look kinda crap, a well..

By the way, I was thinking of making this the teleportal road. (Or how it's called in English?)

I made this way back but I just remembered it..

um, what is that in the first one? Giant Park Benches?

Obviously, these screenies lack substance.

Your second one is just a floating brush, a model, and a teleport.

I'd say you captured a good mood, but you need to do more with it.

I noclipped down in the floor, under the bences to take a interesting screenshot, guess I phailed..

That floating brush is a platform. I'm probaly going to add some trains and some moving platforms around. Ideas are welcome heh! :o

You have to understand this is a Garry's mod map so detail isn't needed, it can be super weird for his scenes!

Meh, I don't totally agree with that habboi..

Don't forgot the comic makers and role players..

They DO need detail. I want to balance this map between fun and good lookin'.

It's best to take screenshots while just walking around rather than noclipping to give a good sense of the proportions of the map, unless there are objects that define the proportions clearly.

What intention do you have with the map? If you're making it for Garry's mod, then that doesn't say a lot... is it intended for some of those weird multiplayer modes, or for comic shooting, or something else?

Anyay, the shots don't show a lot right now. Only just some props in a pitch-black environment. Well, if you're aiming for such a style, maybe that's cool, but it's not clear where you're going with it now.
I don't like the teleport trail, it's too black'n'whitey. Leave those ugly white parts out and it would look a lot better.

i would say that wood ( as i'm assuming that's what i it is in the first screenies.. ) wouldn't be used in a space station.

An well the other 2 screenies i realy don't know what's going on in them :), textures on the second image are fine though :)

I will add some things here and there and I will come up with some better screenshots to get a better vision..

Sorry for the revive, but I wanted to post some screenshots again.

I don't map much, so that's why it took a while.

I want some advice now.

Once again, posing and random fun is my goall.

I want it balanced between good looking and fun.

Still really doesn't look like a space station, but more of an alternative theme. I like those particles and it may well turn out to be a fun theme. Got some screenshots that give more of an overview of the map?

Well I changed my goal from a space station P.

See it as a strange platform station.. :zonked:

I just wanna make something different and I think i'm doing a allright job. ;) (rofl, that sounded cheesy.)

I'll post more screenshots when I get to upgrade it some more..

But I need some ideas now.. anyone?

Ah, alternative theme. Yes, that could turn out pretty well.

Right now, it needs more detail, more things to make it look interesting. It's very grey and empty for now. I like the spotlight areas on a black background idea, but it's too monotone right now.

How about a torn apart city with drifting road parts and building blocks that slowly move and all, where the rest is blackness? With connections between the 'islands' that look like those particle effects, or clouds, or something like that?

Meh, I don't understand those last 2 sentences to be honest..

You mean some kind of strange city with moving building blocks?
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-12 12:24:44 UTC Post #141073

TnoH's Counter-Strike map dm_hellway666 also has a similiar setting.

wow! Brilliant!

That would make a good mod...

(Remember the train at the end of HL 1.... the blackness and everything... Could be like the "real" world, where Gordon lives in an alternate reality. The "real" world is not governed by the laws of physics in the "alternate" world, and so there really aren't large land masses like planets.... Or maybe there was one large land mass and it was destroyed... Fragmented out over many different floating land masses.)
