If you'd ever want to use G-max,this is your last chance, Autodesk has anouced that the support for G-max will be stopped, already there was no more info on there website, but with the release of 3dstudiomax 8 they have decided that the support will be cut deu to being 4 versions behind.

If it where to me i'd hang them personaly, but that aint going to happend. Just a big slap in the face for me, coming home from a cold shower, whatever you'd like to call it.

Not sure 7th, i just saw the edit button again, maby a error on the page.

You can not export to .smd Though there used ot be a guide in a hack for that on wunderboy.org, its not there anymore. I usually export to blender or a similair program.

Ok, its installed and everything.

I did the crack, how do i know if its registered?

And where can i find this "blender" ;)?

Google for that :) .

You if it is registered if you can use it, rather easy actualy. If you need the basics of G-max look at this article i wrote:

Blender is a free 3d modeler.

Shall i download V 2.4 alpha or the stable V 2.37?
Luke LukeLuke

Your own choice, sometimes the latest alpha have new features, or bugs.
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-22 10:46:00 UTC Post #142872
Ill go ahead with stable :)

Ok, got everything installed, now how would i go about exporting to blender?

Gmax is great I passed all the begginer tutorials already. Made the outpost, mace, head and almost finished the recharger's base! :glad: Now I know why nobody likes to model for somebody else,it consumes lots of time. :nervous:

How do you turn the .gmax file into a .mdl file? : And how do I add weapons??
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-22 15:56:37 UTC Post #142958
Ok, like he said he does, is he exports models to blender.

Then with blender, he exports to a SMD and then uses a compiler to compile a model.

What my problem is, is that i cant find how to export to blender.

Whats blender?
Blender is a very good modelling program used for more then just making a model of a monster. Its also good for making 3D effects and such. My friend uses it alot :)

So I don't need milkshape 3D anymore? (it's expaiered :( but I think I can still export  )

So, can blender compile to HL2 format?

With some things you can download, yes.

With those you can save to a smd file, then get a compiler and compile to a mdl file.

Then why do I need Gmax?(not that I'm going to give up on it, I just love that program)
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-22 17:48:40 UTC Post #143000
Its a lot more complex and more 'powerful', and you can a lot more.

if it's possebe...
Should be, ask pepper

Yes, acctualy.

You can get a model decompiler and extract the SMD which somehow you'd import into gmax or blender.

How does pepper know? : (he surly knows,I think.... )
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-23 08:43:50 UTC Post #143132
Most modelling programs, if not all, have a 1:1 unit ratio with HL and HL2.

I actually still use Milkshape for modelling HL2 props. I seems GMax' interface is quite similar to that of Milkshape, right?
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-23 09:55:52 UTC Post #143152
Then making small models must be really annoying! If one unit in gmax is one unit in half-life! :(
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-23 10:42:41 UTC Post #143158
Not really. All the compilers seem to support scaling models at the end of modelling.
Seventh-Monkey Seventh-MonkeyPretty nifty
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-23 10:47:31 UTC Post #143161
Yeah, you can scale it down or up when compiling to .mdl format, but working off the grid in a modelling tool isn't really a problem, depending on your own preferences of course.
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-23 11:10:05 UTC Post #143164
For exporting, find a exporter that exports to a format that you can import. Sometimes you need to download one for this.
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-23 11:23:05 UTC Post #143166
Well, ok, this is what i found i can do.

I do not need blender at all. I have a SMD importer, and a MD3 exporter. Now i jsut need to find a MD3 to a SMD converter.

But i DO have this Gmax plugin that can export to SMD (i think) but its specifically for HL2 models.

I want to mainly do HL1 models, think it would still work?

Pfffft, i scrapped blender.

Now i use gmax and milkshape. I got a plugin to import smd's to gmax, and then i export to some weird file, then import into milkshape, then export back to smd :D

http://img477.imageshack.us/img477/2908/recharger4aw.jpg

I made this base of a recharger a while ago, with the help of a tutorial. It was quite easy!
That tutorial sucks it skipped lots of parts and now he says to unhide a prebuilt part. I managed to do most of the stuff but it's not as high as they made it so I'll have to do lots of moving work.

It looks like there are lots of guys here that want to model from what I see in this thread. :

Luke which program takes more memory and heavier for I don't want to make it to hard on my pentuim III. :tired: Gmax is alot already. :aghast:

I saw that Rust has a few modeling tutorials. Are they for Gmax. : Wait a minute, this means that you can't get Gmax any longer or just that they wont make any new versions of it? :tired: And if Gmax wont be available any more then why should people keep tutorials on it! :aghast:
