Skyline : Source
The SkyLine Project

Ok. Here's a brief outline.

Having changed to the source engine this mod has had a complete remastering. The story has changed, the location has changed and the characters have changed. The only thing that remains the same is the fact it will be episodic with multiple choice cliff hangers. Updates soon. ;)

Uhm... so what is this project really about? You may want to give some more info if you want people to get interested...

Ok, heres the new story.

The story will remain similar to that of "The Urban Project"

The only thing is it will no longer take place in Skyline City nor will it be hundred of years into the future. No. This is set in the present. (-ish)

Story
In the year 2007 the human race had finally begun to understand the one thing that made the world a miserable and hellish place to live. Itself.

Somewhere out in the pacific ocean a huge complex had been created with the intention of perfecting the human race in a series of diabolical experiments. Human kind would be engineered to be kind and caring. There would be no more fighting one another and the entire planet would become a pefect world. Utopia.

However, with the ability to engineer and customise the very mind of the human race brought about other possibilties.

The creation of the perfect soldier. Powerful, controllable and merciless.

While the lower ranks of the science team took over the research and engineering of the perfect human psyche the senior elite proffesors were hard at work on what they had orignally set out to put a stop to. Driven by the immense insanity brought on by creating the most powerful weapon of mass destruction. An army of remote controlled super-soldiers.

While the young researchers worked hard on creating a perfect world, their demented superiors were busy in the lower levels, below the sea bed, creating the ultimate world destroying weapon right beneath their feet.

Interesting background. No game story, though. ;)

What I mean is: this isn't the story that unrolls directly as you play. That story is what you experience as you go. You'll probably get to know bits and pieces of what you just wrote, but there's a more direct storyline.

Anyway, is there more to your mod than a different story, like a different gameplay? Doesn't have to be, but if there is anything particularly interesting besides this, I'd like to hear. :)

If you want to make depth, and have the character unfold details... Heres what you could do.

-- The people making their perfect human for the good cause, shouldnt know about the super soldier division of them (this will turn into an "uncover a conspiracy" thing..
-- There should be an uprising of people with abnormal abilities trying to start a war.
-- One should be stunned/killed, recognized as diffrent beings by the military/police, and sent through an autopsy.
-- The autopsy team uncovers many abnormal things about the subjects mind, structure, and strength.
-- The good scientists should recognize the similarities between their project and the results published by the autopsy team (newspaper, whatever..)
-- The scientists begin to check around.
-- They get a sample of DNA from it and realize its almost exactly the same, yet its mind is detetermined to obey orders of war.
-- They begin to dig more into it, asking the government and the higher ups.
-- The facility becomes destroyed overnight the day after finding the name of a guy suspected to steal a sample.
------ Your mod starts the player here ------
-- You (whoever he is..) begin to search out the suspect (also whoever he is..)
-- You find out that a secret "whatever"(organization, government agency, ect) is creating these supersoldiers and is connected with the suspect after stalking him around.
-- They, in turn, find out your getting too close to knowing.. they set the supersoldiers with a priority to kill you.
-- You continue to dig, working your way through the secret "whatever's" bases/bunkers/facilities.
-- You isolate the facilities associated with creating them.
-- The evil people engineer a better, more deadly version of their supersoldier.
-- You kill their facilities, and research.
-- You find and kill the main guy (duh.)
- End -

Of course though, youd need to add more twists, plot points, and conspiracy type things.

Sounds good Urb.

I would suggest not setting a date for it though, that way you can include technology that isnt around yet.

I'm still waiting for 2009 to see if Black Mesa happens. ;)

Oh ya, and make sure you start it with a nice cinematic sequence of some sort, with the back story and all.

As for the game story you play as trainee security officer Joe Carter in the SkyLine facility. The concepts that I've come up with are all dark, rusty and mysterious.

There will be very little natural lighting as for the most part it will be below sea level. :)

Ahhh, Source coders are few and far between, mainly becuse Micro-Shaft are the only ones with a program atm (AFAIK) that can compile .net or somthing, I dont know I am not a coder but the bottom line is you have to pay to buy the program to code for source and it aint cheap.

As if that'll hold back people... ;)

Programmers aren't hard to find. They're just not found in the HL communities as much. I think it's for obvious reasons: they didn't start with mapping and rolled into those communities - they started in different area's and are probably programming their own small games or other stuff.

I know... 4-5 coders. All code for HL1, non can code for HL2. And at the moment there are no "free" copies of the compiler program around.

And one of the coders I know started out as a mapper ;)
