Our school has a libary with fairly good computers. And on Wed. there is a after school session, and we used to play CS, HL, and somd RTS's on them, but for last year, they obtained new computers, and they don't function well with HL.

Is there any good games that are probably going to be old, but don't require that good of a computer (wether it be FPS or RTS) memory, are fairly cheap, and can be coppied over again, like you can make many copies of hl, and use the same code.

I thought about some games, starcraft would work, it worked last year. I have a copy my ex-girlfriend burned for me, but I don't have a code, do they need codes for over LAN? Or can I just buy one and use the same code over lan?

after school on wednsdays, the libary is open for 3 extra hours, so you can get work done. but sometimes if alot of people are at a field trip, and you have a nice teacher you can pull it of during regular hours.

Thanks for the games so far. Does anyone know about starcraft though?

-StarCraft Pwns all! Aruguably the best RTS ever made. Perfectly balanced races, not a resource hog for your computer, excellent gameplay. It would be best if you could play against your mates or coop against AI, 'cause the single player missions are a bit boring imo. Get the broodwar expansion too, it gives you excellent new units and improves them game tremendously.

-Red Alert 2 and/or Yuri's expansion

For a shooter UT is quite a classic on LAN. We sometimes play it on the school network here.
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-09 09:11:22 UTC Post #162209
If HL doesnt work well i doubt UT will, QUAKE is the obvious choice as WCD said, old bare-basic deathmatch needing serious skillz. :D

HLDM/mods and UT were the local school champions.

UT Kicks ass!

Me, Digi and a couple of others used to play it all the time at the gaming sessions at college.

The Lavagiants were born and died in that one very room. Starting with just 3 members and gaining 3 others along the way. Yes, UT is an extremely addictive Multiplayer (even singleplayer) old school shooter classic!

LG Clan! February - June 2005

Dearly missed.

rowleybob - I know you can play it over lan, I was just wondering if you could use the same id code over lan, like they won't interfere. If they can't would anyone mind lending me their code? I wouldn't only use it for Lan, not internet or anything.

D_man - I know morrowind is a good game, I am just looking for multiplayer games, something simple.

I got the same thing but steam works with us so we all play CS during computing! It rocks!

also,

YOU MUST PLAY THE AWSOMENESS THAT IS FREESPACE 1 AND 2!

Amazing engaging single player, awsome multiplayer with co-op DM and team DM missions and arenas.

Its completly free since the source was released, features shitloads of mods and campains and if you want to play at home, the SCP has modified it to graphics that exced HL2s anyday, as well as playing well on just about any crappy system.

whew, I think that got the message across!

^heh

I see a lot of people in my computer programming class playing a game called Soldat. I've never played it but it looked pretty cool, its kinda like a side scrolling shooter that can be played on a LAN plus its free.

Doom1/2/final are great. Castle wolfenstein3D is great too. But probebly you want a game that you don't need to spend hours on it, if so try Xenon 2 Megablast.

fearian - I have Freespace:Descent is that at all the same? Descent is pretty cool though, thanks for the reminder! I like the actual size craft, literally FREE space, can go anywhere, although just floating for five hours isn't too fun. Spaceship game right?

yeah thats right, FS and FS2 are amazing though, if you think of decent as doom, FS/2 is HL/2 (albeit without the graphical leap in between :P)

Its a very involving game, and amazingly epic. your a small fighter, about the size of a large jet, and the capital ships can be up to 30 kilometers long. also, theres beamweapons, theres a cool powering up sound and then bam! a huge energy beam wider than your ship cuts across your veiw and through the hull of said 30KM capital ship slicing it in half.

If your looking for somthiing that will last you;

Fallout 1 and 2. The two best games ever created in my (and a lot of other people's) humble opinion.

Play Fallout 1 first (If you can find it) otherwise you wont have a clue whats going on and you will miss an important peice of the story.

I went with starcraft (battlechest). Do you need different ID's for LAN though?

oh yeah, because introversion went bust, actual copies of freespace are rare and because the game is so amazing, they can be up to ?120 for a regular retail edition. just be glad you didnt search for one of the special editions...

you can download it free from most abondonware sites.
