"Mod_NumForName: bla bla bla bla" It can?t find the sprites, they are in the right folder and hey all exist. No problem in the compile but when im about to test the map that error appears.

In which directory did you place the sprites?
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-22 15:16:38 UTC Post #164525
and are you sure the path names are right? when you select them they can be screwy
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-22 16:14:48 UTC Post #164529
Yes, everything is in order exept the fact that they don't work. the sprites are in the sprite folder and the names are right... I can't figure out what's wrong here...

And it's not just my own sprites that don't work, it's all the sprites.

Just post the directory so we'll all be happy.
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-22 19:27:50 UTC Post #164548
D:/LAN-HL/svencoop/sprites/Slight1
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-22 19:29:44 UTC Post #164549
LAN-HL?
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-22 19:40:58 UTC Post #164552
Yes, the one that comes with Cstrike
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-23 00:34:06 UTC Post #164573
The error has nothing to do with the sprite it mentions. In my experience, it's caused from having paths wrong for some of you other custom content like sounds.

For some unknow reason when you put in a incorrect path for something, sometimes you'll get this error instead of it telling you what model or sound or .wad is missing.

The map is just a box with a sprite in it... No errors besides the sprite thing :/ I tryed to add a sprite to one of my working maps and the same error appeard

Remember to add the extension after the sprite's name:
D:/LAN-HL/svencoop/sprites/Slight1.spr

Im getting frustrated :/ I don't know what it is and TWHL doesn't know what it is... :/

EDIT: The map works fine, i tested it without sprites... Then i add a sprite and then the sprite doesn't work... It's not something with the directory, i brows for the sprites just to be sure i don't mess it up. And as i said, it's not just my own sprites that doesn't work. I tested the map with some of the sprites that come with Svencoop. they don't work either
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-27 04:14:12 UTC Post #165261
and TWHL doesn't know what it is... :/
I guess your fucked then :P

Upload .rmf to problems maps and see if anyone else has the problem.

Just a wild guess, but I've had trouble with sprites because I entered a / instead of a in their path (or the other way around - see, I always mix those up). Perhaps that could be it?

You mean in the directory? Nah, i brows for them in hammer so i never wright the directiry myself, but thanks. thanks everyone...

but i guess it could be some wierd problem that has nothing to do with the sprites, maybe some game file broke down or something :/

Set your game directory properly then in Hammer put the sprite as Spight1.spr

@Inventrex: I think that--Game Executable, Game Directory-- would only be an issue if you're running the game from Hammer, and I know Tosse isn't doing that :) Should also be noted if you want your sprites--or models in 3.5--to show up in-editor, these fields become more important ;)

Besides, this error was really bugging me so I tried all sorts of stuff, and the only way I was able to duplicate your error was from entering an invalid path for the sprite.

Straighten out your paths man! :P

dude... In hammer, i can see the sprites, hammer find the sprites, even show them to me :P But what exaly do you mean by that? Wright down exacly what you did to het the error, what was the problem and then i'll see if it matches my.. Thanks

I have the same error only it's just the oppsite. In hammer I can't see some sprites(that include's hl1's glow3 sprite) but ingame they show up! :

Tosse: All I know, is the only way I can get the same exact error as the one your speaking of, is to have an incorrect path set for a sprite.

I haven't tested it, but if the sprite in question "lives" in your sprites folder in Hammer, perhaps that's why you can see it in-editor and not in the game--I'm grasping at straws here now Tosse!

Final word from me. Try not hitting the "browse" key either. In Hammer, you should simply have:

sprites/spritename.spr

And nothing else, unless you have a subdirectory for the sprites folder, which you should not ;)

Elon: Just tried it and my "glow3.spr" shows up fine. Unrelated probably: Some of my weapons models don't show up in-editor--3.5Beta--, but show up in the game just fine.

Hammer beta seems not to show lots of things.
my dead barney won`t show up but will in game.
Shot gun ammo won`t show up either.

It might be doing something dumb like looking for them here
D:/LAN-HL/svencoop/D:/LAN-HL/svencoop/sprites/Slight1.spr

u should not have "D:/LAN-HL/svencoop" there. use "sprites/Slight1.spr
Also doing it that way won`t break the map if you move the game to say the C drive.

thanks all, i'll delete the "D:/LAN-HL/svencoop" and see if it does the trick!

i know this is a huge bump, but i was messing around with sprites... and i had the same issue here.. here's the solution.

i test on the WON version of half life so i dont know if this would matter or not, but the sprite iw as looking for is the plasma.spr. so its located in Sierra/half-life/valve/sprites but i guess half life doesnt load the sprites from the valve folder, so i made a new folder in the half-life folder called sprites and i copied the sprite into there. so the new pathname is Sierra/Half-Life/Sprites/plasma.spr

works fine. and i used the hammer browser to go directly to it.. hope it helps anyone.
