If you have the IETab plugin, you can use Windows Update in Firefox, penguinboy.

Jax you dick. Stop using IE.

These arguements are pointless. If someone prefers FireFox then they're gonna say its "better" than Opera and vice-versa. I've seen the comparision threads too (Opera usually comes out on top). Sure, it may be missing the feature to add plugins (closest it has is the new widget feature), but I'm really not too fussed about it.

Alex, who knows a fair bit more about this than I do, has concrete evidence of what Opera can do and what FF can't. Personally, I like how I can Mail, IRC and web browsing all in the one app. It varies with people.

However, both O and FF are VASTLY superior to IE. IE is like browsing while a rod is being slowly inserted in your arse.

Agreed. Anyone using IE is a lazy masochistic imbecile. I can't bear to even use Firefox anymore, it's so un-user friendly, but most people just use Opera for ten seconds, then ditch it because they're confused. Take the time to get used to and configure it and you'll never ever want to use another browser.

Thats what happened with me when I was on Fire fox, I was told I shoud try opera, I dled it and used it for 2 mins and then gave up with it. Now that I got my new computer I got used to it and havn't used IE or Firefox again.

Well just to stir up shit, i use both Mozilla and Opera, i find Opera does not download effectively with my net (any attempt to stop and resume downloads just restarts the entire process, meaning downloading big files over two or three days is impossible in Opera and Getright is fecking useless). I download larger files with Mozilla, browse sites and IRC with Opera. Works out fine for me. The difference between Mozilla and Opera is minimal, complaining about it too is just fecking pointless.

pepper, you're a tard. Simply.

Anyway, I prefer Firefox by loads. I really can't see anything better about Opera.
If I would want to chat, e-mail and look up taiwanese recipes of death, I could just do that with some simple firefox plugins. Firefox's alot better than Opera because of it's customizability. I can get it to do whatever I want with the proper plugins - my favorite and mostly-used plugin now being Stumble-Upon. Opera's a great browser though, second on my list.

Using IE when you have the choice not to is like eating feces with beef on the table.

I use Opera after Alex complained at me enough.
I can't really find anything wrong with Opera, so I never bothered going with Firefox.

Opera is better than IE, because it is a lot easier to navigate, you can do multiple things at once, and have multiple windows open, but all inside one window.
Opera just has generally nice touches that make it better than IE. :)

IE works great for me..Firefox is nice but it just loads longer on my PC and Opera meh...I am 1. lazy and 2. happy with using IE...

Unlike some people, if you have good protection then combined with IE makes your PC nice and safe...

Firefox has some interesting add-ons and to tell you the truth I started off with IE like most of you so I am used to it...It has all my favourites anyway...My point is once you use something for a long time it is often difficult to change unless it is necessary so I see no reason to change when it runs fast, easy to use and has all my favourites...I have 300 favourites saved so if you can honestly be bothered to change then heh you need a life.

Finally whats the point of this thread...These threads are made daily and the end result is people argue whats better...Who cares!? I use IE and thats my choice...Seventh uses Opera and thats his choice! JAX uses IE and he can bloody well use it!!!

So stop saying oh I pwn you because I use Firefox or Opera...cause for Gods sake no-one gives a shit...

habboi: You suck. Besides, I think there's an "Import favorites from internet explorer"-option when you install Firefox. So buh.
Firefox...
 • Is faster
 • More secure,
 • Follows w3c standards
 • Has a huge plugin database
 • Is completely freeware

Firefox for me and that's final. The first thing that catched me some 1 year or so ago is the tabbed browsing and the higher security. Then I found out about all the other cool features and loved it. Opera might be good for it's customizability (argh, spelling) but considering how often things go wrong on my computer I'd rather stick to something that is fully functional and user friendly in it's base package and I don't have to spend a week configuring it.
Posted 18 years ago2006-03-16 15:15:30 UTC Post #168750
You dont have to configure opera, and I think it takes less system resources. I wish people would try things before saying how bad it sucks.

Heh, I guess this is going to be the first time i'm agreeing with habboi. (O NOES!)

I use IE, sue me.

Maybe firefox/opera is better than IE, but I just simply don't care.
Now I may get called a retard and lazy but why should I fucking change to something else while IE works just fine, so maybe it isn't as good as firefox/opera (as most of you say) but i'm using it since day 1 i'm using a computer, i'm used to IE and I have no needs for something else.

Threads like these are totally useless, simply because the poster thinks his browser is superior to others. Now poeple are probaly going to say 'firefox is superior to IE, that's a fact', once again, IE works just fine and I have no need to change my browser.

I rest my case. :tired:

All in all Opera and Firefox have almost identical features, so it's up to the user which one they'll preffer. As long as it's not cursed IE it's fine for me.
Posted 18 years ago2006-03-16 16:39:54 UTC Post #168778
Opera has rather more clever features than Firefox, and has a proper MDI interface, instead of lazy 'tabs', which I find exceedingly useful.
I've been happy Opera-user since version 5.x.

Fire Fox takes to much resources and fucked up my favorites. Reason enough to ditch it. Takes a hell of a load time to load to. IE is instantly there and doesnt lag up when running FS.

Never tried opera neither am i going to.

Firebird was what firefox was called through it's first few steps into existance.

I really see no point to these threads, they're massively overdone. Everyone should know by now that 80% of the people around these kinds of forums use firefox, 10% ophra, and those last few that cling to IE.

And over 90% of people who say that some browser sucks, haven't really used it. I've noticed this mostly with the FF-users who say that Opera sucks.
But hey, both are good browsers and it's good that they aren't using IE.

Posted 18 years ago2006-03-17 09:46:40 UTC Post #168929
@pepper:
It's cluttering the desktop with many windows instead of organizing each opened page into a tab? It's less targeted by hackers/crackers/virusfactories/whatever because fewer people use it (it also seems to be actually safer to browse with)? That's my 2 main reasons to go with FireFox. :)
It also has some nice plugins like a rss feed-reader, IRC client, tab manager, download manager, web-developers toolbar...

I dunno about Opera, never used it before. As far as I know it uses a similar tab system, that's all I know. :)

Posted 18 years ago2006-03-17 10:31:27 UTC Post #168936
It all comes down to personal preference. Those who like Firefox, use it. Those who like Opera, use it. Those who like internet explorer, learn to like Opera or Firefox.

Saying "Opera has better features than firefox" is pretty lame though, since you can get plugins for whatever you need. Besides, "better" is also a personal preference.

SaltyCrak: Firefox has ChatZilla (even though I don't like it).
Pepper: Use whatever you want, just don't come complaining to us when your computer b0rks up ;) .

That's nonsense. Opera is based in Norway. I believe that the Mozilla Foundation spawned from the wreckage of Netscape, funded by AOL.
As far as I know it uses a similar tab system, that's all I know.
No, Opera has true MDI functionality. I imagine you understand what I mean there... you're a programmer, aren't ya? For the ignorant, it means windows-in-windows, as if you're in Word with multiple documents and go Window -> Arrange All, or Window -> Tile, Cascade, etc. Much, much more useful. Can do some superb things with vertical tiling and window-linking...

I really can't bear to use Firefox anymore. I like the mentality of open-source stuff, the freedom, etc., but, well, Firefox just isn't as amazingly comfortable to patter around the Web in, and it's hardly going to be a tightly-coded speedy little beasty when you have to get community-written plugins for any kind of useful feature (often copied from Opera [really]).

For the record, I do use Thunderbird. It's a nice program, but it's not Opera-level stuff, and all Mozilla appies feel slighty slow to me.
