I'm making a chandleir model. It's going to hang on a long chain. My problem is: how to make the chain. Make each link by it self or create two planes with a transerent chain texture. The model wont be too close to the player so the two plane chain wont look too horrible, it will also lower the epoly count, which will be good for I will fill the room with the lamps with grunts. Last time when I made the room it had 11000 epolies.(it's the living room in breen's house in my compo entery, I'm remaking that map) Making it from two planes will be easier too.

Use the two planes, unless you want to use a sprite that's fixed about the z-axis.

The model is coming out nicely. I just looked at a draft I made before starting this model and it gave me a neat idea on how to make it easier for me to build it. :glad:

Not yet, when the mash is done. Just wait! By the way how do I turn a texture into a chorme texture? Might make it even easier for me to texture the thing in some places.

You could also use a beam, with a chain-like sprite. Always faces the camera so there's no need for a second layer, perhaps the quality loss doesn't look that bad with that distance... an advantage would be the more flexible movement beams allow you... :)
