Elon is the leader of our the Hollowing Preservation Society, so I'm sure he'll be able to tell you why--I haven't "hollowed" since my first nappies :P.

You can use the VM or clipping or cloning/resizing brushes to do the same thing. My personal favourite is the clip tool, whilst making sure there are no sub-verticies--in other words, no brush corners off the grid (at the smallest grid size).

16 is the standard size for everything.

make sure your brush is big enough to have 12 unit thick walls too. you can't hollow a 24x24x24 brush with something like that.

and does it disappear in the 3d view port or the 2d ones, or both?

it disappears in both of em

this happened to me a few times on a map. I remedied this with carving a smaller box inside a larger box.

Also, it might be hammer. What version are you using?

Don't torture yourself, get Hammer 3.4 or 3.5 beta.

i tried em and they bog up my comp so much to the point that the program itself wont even run

really? if hammer bogs down that bad I wonder how your going to compile.

even better then hollowing and carving is making the size box you want then making brushes around it to get the room, then deleting the original box

thanks for the tip :)
oh yeah the 3.3 version works just fine on my comp and ive compilled several test maps and it seems to work just fine its just the later versions of hammer that dont work very well

Just a tip: you can copy brushes by dragging them and holding the Shift key. Should make life some easier.

Personally, I hardly ever hollow, actually more for a design reason: hollowing easily ends you up with very square, cubic maps. Jumping around with brushes more freely pays off eventually.

are you saying you use -12 as in negative 12 or was the dash just a seperator? if so, -12 may cause some problems, try making a bigger block and just using 12.

I dont really hollow anymore...
When i do, i used -16 (negative 16)

Don't lumber yourself with worldcraft 3.3. It has many problems.(like brushes blackning in the 2D views after you clip)
I used it once so believe me.
If you can't or don't wont worldcraft 3.5 get 3.4. I think it will work for you if 3.5 wont.
If you want to use 3.5 get the newst ZHLT, Worldcraft 3.5 don't support older ones.(I speak from expirience, it made me use 3.4 for ages untill I updated ZHLT 2.5.1 to 3)
