This is on my aunt's computer-I have no problems on the regular. Her specs are: 128mb RAM, 233 MHz Pent II, integrated graphics (most likely), 14GB hd. So I was wondering, is it the specs that are causing this?

Maybe it takes a bit of time to load the background, with such an old computer it can happen.

Perhaps, but why does the background load almost instantly?

Because the background is just an image. It's the same with HL2 for me: the background loads instantly, but I have to wait a couple of seconds for the menu to pop up.

Same case with me, only that instead of a couple of seconds it takes a minute or so. Just wait, if you didn't...

Happens even on my Radeon 9800 ;)
A bit obvious if you think about it cause a PC has to load the game materials etc...

Thanks for failing to tell us which OS she's running, or whether it's a recent problem.

For me it's both. First it loads the game's screen for a second then it resizes the size of the screen, you can see desktop in that time for two minutes or so. Then it loads the game's screen again and it takes a minute till the text shows up.

No wonder I hate testing maps... even my own!

This nice little program is great for previewing maps without starting the game (hl1 or 2).
It even previews the lightmaps!
(for WON installations of hl1, use his BSPviewer from the same site, crafty is useable for WON installs, but is much more compatible with steam)
