Okay this is starting to piss me off.
Sure, I'm gonna blow my harddrive up SOON but not now, I'm too tired!
So I might aswell ask wtf it is.
My computer randomly restarts once every day.
Often when I am at TWHL TRYING to reply a thread.
Also, yesterday something a little bit different happened.
The computer restarted, and then the monitor went in to "power saving mode" and it wouldn't turn on again.
I restarted again to make the monitor work and that didn't work (however I did NOT wait 10 seconds as you are supposed to do)
So I turned off the computer again, came back an hour later and it worked as normal.

AVG (my anti virus program which is good - AND free) can't find any virus.

Also, I turned off all programs and checked the process meater and it was at 0% as it should be when noone is doing anything.

What is this about? Does anyone know what it is? Help would be appreciated &lt;3

Seriously, I think your PC's innards might need some cleaning. Things like dust and dirty can clog up the fans and cause your components to overheat and when this happens your PC restarts so that they don't end up smoking

You could also try moving the PC to a different place in the room. Is it really close to a wall? Maybe try moving it near a window or something should help.

Me thinks not.
When I cleaned my harddrive I also cleaned the inside of the computer, I don't think that's the problem.

You could also try moving the PC to a different place in the room. Is it really close to a wall? Maybe try moving it near a window or something should help.

Well, that's sortof imposseble, I can't explain why because I would have to draw my room.

You don't have a temp. probe or anything as such? But yeah, it does sound like an overheating issue. how many / intake / outake fans do you have and where are they located. Also, have you recently installed anything new, hardware or software, and how new are your components?

I don't think it is a temp problem, however, you can check that when you start your computer right?
You press delete/F1 or something and check computer health.

Fans? well, I have 2 fans.
One on the graphic-card and one on the processor, and of course one on that power decreasing thing ("netagregate"? lol, doesn't sound right)

My newest components, well, I have no "new" hardware in a relative point of view.
Software? Nothing that would affect that as far as I know.

But, as I said, I'll check the temp on start

I would suggest installing a exhaust fan or something (I have no idea). They don't take up much power, can be relatively quite and most of all help cool that bitch down

Power supply unit or PSU.

Try booting into safe mode and see if the problem ensues. Might be a driver issue. And yeah, check your temperatures, either in BIOS or in a windows app, such as motherboard monitor.

Some case fans would be a good idea (you know, those that aren't attached to any component except the chassi?) to get a proper airflow.

They have already caused houndreds of errors on my computer, I think NTFS is the root of all the bullshit which is going on on my computer.

So, I checked the computer temperature, and that is not the problem,

CPU temp = 45 degreeds celsius, and at least my father sais that it is an OK number.

So, there is no dust in my computer and it has a low temperature.

However, I got this error right this moment when I restarted my computer and,, well, it crashed into restart again, after I logged in again I had this windown XP error popup which we all are familiar with, but this time it said "RECOVERED FROM SERIOUS ERROR"
So I clicked error report and it said:

And I'm not that good with how windows works, so I have no idea what these files does or why they caused the computer to crash, ideas anyone?

those two files are generated by windows. take a look at the xml file in notepad, but im not sure what to do with the dmp. i think thats what gets uploaded to microsoft when you choose to do that...

and as for fans, i've been running my computer for 4 years without a single chassis fan and its full of dust and it runs fine, even at 30 hour lans

but thats only the case i have sucks and i cant find any 50mm fans....

Okay, this is getting weird.
The file doesn't exist, neither does the map it should be in.
I can just trace it to this: "C:DOCUME~1*****~1.000LOCALS~1Temp", the rest of the address doesn't exsist

I got that same error when my PC started crashing. It was definitely overheating...

That happened to me all the time when my grpahics card didn't get enough power.

So, most of you seem to think that this has with the temperature to do, so, I guess it might me, lol.
But then, a question.
When my computer stands on idle the CPU temp is up to 46 degreeds celsius, is this too much?
And also, how come it crashes when I am on TWHL, and not when I am playing a game?
I mean, it doesn't make any sense. :S

Computers don't always make sense...It could be something so simple or it could be something hard to find...

Try a fan pointing at it and see how that goes...

The temperature range seems fine, don't worry about. First of all, run every single decent utility program ever created: I'm talking about Ad-Aware, Spybot: Search & Destroy and Codesoft's Starter program. The first two will scan for adware and spyware, and the last one will allow you to see what the heck is running at startup. If you have any odd anomalies in there, you can disable them.

I do hope you're running a decent firewall (I recommend ZoneAlarm). If all else fails, throw your computer out a window. Or format. Might be some crappy HDD sectors screwing everything up, who knows. Defrag too.

You've not seen hot till you've seen my pc, idle its at 48C now, but when gaming it gets to 64C and playing for a whole day will cause a restart..I put a new case fan in the side pannel (mod ftw!) and it has lowered the temp by about 2-3C...

Anyways, if its not your temp, then maybe a program is malfunctioning, perhaps your browser?

Try formatting your compact disks with some disinfectant to clean out the viruses

Ant: I do have ad-aware, I just need to instal it, so I'll scan my computer later today. Also, I have a server and the server has doubble firewalls so I don't think that is the problem.
Oh, and you can check what's going on at the startup in a register cleaning program - right?

Odd, the problem seems to have stoped, and I haven't done a shit.

If you go to run and type in msconfig &gt; Startup tab you can check what programs are starting up.

whats the point of a double firewall when a properly configured single firewall would provide the same level of protection?

THIS HAPPEND TO ME!!!!! ok, my family said it was the mods . this kept gettin worst and worst. we took it to get fixed but when the pc guys looked at it but everything was wiped. they STILL think its the mods, so im not allowed to have them on. SO ARE THEY THE MODS?

Restarting has stoped, but it did crash today (it hung up or, you know, it freezed)
Also, I instaled adaware and it didn't find anything worth worrying about, just cookies and two "lowrisk tracking files" which ad-aware described as normal spyware.

Thanks for that Spy bot link...I found a few nasty things hidden on my PC that disabled parts of my Firewall and viruscan...I had a hacker thing in my PC...Yikes.

So, I found out the source of all evil in my computer (that means, the reason I couldn't instal anything, the reason I couldn't update anything and the reason that the computer randomly crashed) and it was the memories!
Reason I bumped was because someone might get the same problem (which is very unlikley) and then they might find this thread (which also is very unlikley)

Faulty memory usually causes restarts once you reach Windows. If it happens before, it's usually with a "Blue Screen of Death".
When my monitor started going into standby mode, the cause was a problem with the fan inside the PSU. I got a new fan (about 1?) and the problem was gone.

Faulty PSUs can cause quite a bit of hardware trouble. Be wary.

Lucky me, we found out what the problem was seconds before we was gonna format "D:".
It was all luck, my fathers memories had broken so he borrowed mine, but when he inserted them into his computer nothing worked, at all, and he got loads of "Memory related errors"

I disagree with every post in this thread. This only happens usually when a cable isn't plugged in all the way. You bump it a millimeter and boom restart! You probably plugged the faulty cable back in while looking through the inside of your PC. THINK INSIDE THE BOX

As I said, when I switched RAMs with my father his computer went nuts (as mine did), also, if there was a cable loose, why would I get RAM related errors?

I had loads of RAM errors, but I didn't mind them as long as nothing crashed.
For example I had one each time I closed down hammer.
