you could clip out the table and make the papers a part of it

I use 1-unit brushes, looks fine for me.

You can't get smaller than 1 unit brushes

How bout this, try to make a knew texture with wally, and make it a transparent, know make a decal on the table, and tie it to a trigger_auto, so when the level loads there will be your Paper(textures)
on the table, Thats as thin of papers you are going to get, and it works well.

Yes you can tie decals to another thing

When you make a decal look in your 2D views you will see a box--this is your decal, Select it and press Alt-Enter- and theres your properties,
give it a name and there you go, it will be triggered with the auto_trigger,
Trust me this works I've used this for many objects

Example, I had a door that would blow up, I fixed the properties for Target Object to the name of the scorch mark-so when you blew the door the Scorchmarks(decals)would be triggered and appear after the explosion.

This really works--plus it must be transparent so that the decal will look like a piece of paper instead of a piece of paper in an unknown block..

Try it, trust me it works.

another idea is making a wedge shape and rotating it till the long edge is flat. then vm the other corners and it should end up half a unit. i aint tried this but.

Decals are already entities - they can be chosen from the entity list.

No no no. I have actually done this before and it really works. Lets say you have a big block of.. whatever texture, grass lets say. To get the paper thinner than 1 unit, here's how. To get it to be one unit thick you start the brush ABOVE the block of grass and move the top part of the paper down, am I correct? well if you actually start the brush inside the grass block itself and make it thin by thinning it out UPWARD (towards the surface of the grass) then you have a peice of papaer with no thickness. It will loook like its blending into the grass in 3D view mode but its VERY visible in the real map.

Uhhh, If you didnt understand that I can make an example map for you. The whole concept of doing this is actually MUCH more simple than it is to discribe. And now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to frink a gallon of water after talking so much.

your right it works. jsut go smaller then the grid :P

but its VERY visible in the real map
No it's not, it'll flicker between grass and paper. You cannot have two faces on an identical plane without HL and/or your graphics card getting confused.

I personally would use the scale tool (Ctrl+M) to make it smaller than the grid, as pepper advised.

Thats not a awesomely good machine - thats an error.
AND WHATS WRONG WITH THE ONE-UNIT THICKIE!? Just lower the grid size and make a stupid block - what could be easier.
