so yeah, i just completed the single player in, oh, around 2 hours. cost ~?40 and was completed in 2 hours.
That's less time than a HL Episode.

I mean, the multiplayer is fantastic, but geeze.

damn, that was fast. I can't wait to get this for the multiplayer though.

longer than 2 hours....6, at the least. stop over-exaggerating. definately longer than HL2:ep2. and the singleplayer is epic enough to still be worth it (and the multiplayer is amazing)

It is known that the SP is rather small.
It has an average of 5 hours of gameplay.

Some complete it in 7 and a half hours, and some people in 2 hours.

If you don't care for the multiplayer.. would you pay that much for only 5 hours of gameplay? It's up to you.
Keep in mind that there might be expansions. :>

Not to mention it uses PunkBuster, which is essentially a rootkit.

Game of fail.
m0p m0pIllogical.

rootkits aren't bad... rookit VIRUSES are.

Haha, yes they are.

except for the fact that punkbuster isn't a rootkit.

I read that before posting, saw.
Posted 17 years ago2007-11-19 00:17:54 UTC Post #238781
Then you FAIL.

Besides, a lot of your files that come with your operating system are considered rootkits... so if Microsoft gave you rootkits with your OS... then they can't be viruses...
Posted 17 years ago2007-11-19 01:03:55 UTC Post #238782
No you fail. What files that come with Windows are considered rootkits?

If you ask me, Windows is one giant virus, so yeah.

You play a Scottish guy, Soap MacTavish, part of the British SAS following a man named Price from England.

For the majority of the mission anyhoo..

In a couple you play as USMC's Paul Jackson

I've gone off CoD games since they went all console shaped.

The original was (and still is) the best. 2 was the same with better graphics. 3 was a console only release (BAD MOVE!) and 4, well I've watched the vids and my only comment would have to be "meh."

I can honestly say I won't be touching this.

PunkBuster isn't really a rootkit from a technical perspective as it makes no attempts to obscure it's existence and it doesn't try to take control of the OS, so I worded that a little wrong, however the fact remains that an anti-cheat system shouldn't need to be running at a driver-level (cough PnkBstrK.sys).

While it makes detecting driver-level cheats (they do exist, many private bots now run as service/driver combos just like PunkBuster does) easier, makes updating easier and makes it possible to play PB games on a non-admin/power user account (which shouldn't have even been neccessary to begin with, gg flawed design EvenBalance), the fact is that PB's detection is ABSOLUTELY FUCKING USELESS. I used to play Enemy Territory heavily, and even with PB correctly setup and multiple 3rd party master ban/detection lists on the server, even people with PUBLIC bots would manage to get away with it.

On another note, PB could ALSO be a potential security risk, seeing as it has administrative rights, being a service and all. Pretty sure it'd be possible to exploit it somehow (though I'm just speculating now). Oh and also, have I mentioned how much it bogs down memory usage/performance?

In short, I might actually at least ACCEPT PunkBuster if it actually worked, but the fact remains that as an anti-cheat system, it's close to useless. EvenBalance should take a lesson from Valve, you tend to see FAR less cheaters in VAC2 games than you do in PB games, and VAC2 doesn't have to resort to residing in the background as a driver to accomplish it's task.

One more thing, did I mention that the PB EULA basicly says something to the effect of "by agreeing to this, I accept that PB may be considered 'intrusive' and may collect data found on my system"? As a matter of fact, many people have witnessed PB opening random plaintext files on mounted drives.

Whether it actually uploads any of this to EvenBalance servers or not is another question, but still, the fact remains that it shouldn't HAVE to do that. Essentially all it has to do is check for evidence of hooking and scan running processes and their threads for evidence of hooking/injection.

So in short (for real this time), PB is a useless, resource-hogging, intrusive mess of a program.

but still, i want a change. i sure hope you know that the USMC are not as 'good' as they are shown in computer games. besides, the Middle East have been fighting for years and the Americans think they can just roll in thinking it will be a push over?
nah, ill stop talking now.

Stop saying bad things about Americans. Say conservatives. 68 percent of us do not approve of our president.

And the USMC is the most powerful fighting force on the planet.

Powerful - Maybe
Smart - Definatly not. Maybe they should spend less time shooting civilians and British soldiers and start attacking the enemy?

"And the USMC is the most powerful fighting force on the planet."

then why havnt they stopped all the terrorism in Iraq then?
why do heaps of their troops get killed by friendly fire?

The "terrorists" have far more combat experince and, although they may not use the most up to date tech they are vetrains in urban warfare.

wars these days are really messed up, during world war 2 was when soldiers were heros. Today, U.S. soldiers are all bashed and discouraged by their country. Whether thats the soldier's fault, or the countries fault, i guess its up to debate. :

Anyway, i was going to buy Call of duty 4, until i found out it uses PB, i refuse to use that useless piece of crap. :combine:

I love it when a topic goes from something like "lol CoD4" to "lol America".

Back on topic, though:

I loved CoD, hated CoD 2, mildly enjoyed the CoD 3 demo (to me it felt like what CoD 2 should have been) despite it being on console only, and have played the CoD 4 demo have thus far been pretty unimpressed. I don't have a problem with Punkbuster, either. I'll probably just.. "aquire" this game later on.

NineTnine is a dumbass.

On topic: Strider, you liked CoD3 more? Most people liked 2 more. I liked both just fine. I'm looking farward to 4, although a bit less now that I hear it's short.

But I guess multiplayer is where it's at.

What about editing/mapping? What's the deal with those?

Well yeah, CoD 2 felt like nothing more then flashy graphics, I expected a bit of new gameplay mechanics. 3 seemed to have a tad more injected into the gameplay than the previous, but i'm only judging that from the few stages i've seen in action.

cod3 wasn't made by IW, so i wouldn't count it as an IW game. cod2 is great because of its multiplayer.

See I loved CoD2 campaign, and then CoD3's multiplayer was basically the same thing as CoD2 with a bit more thrown in, like vehicles and the class system.

I just liked the look and feel of CoD2's single player. I loved the Russian levels.
Posted 17 years ago2007-11-20 22:34:42 UTC Post #238911
cod2 is great because of its multiplayer.
That's all you ever say, but I don't care about the multiplayer, they're singleplayer games, too. :sarcastic:

Also, whether the non-IW stuff counts or not is irrelevant, they're an overrated developer anyway.

Blitzkrieg is a silly

so, you are saying the USMC are better then the French Foriegn Legion? better then the Green Berets or Delta? better then the SAS? i dont think so.
Posted 17 years ago2007-11-20 22:44:45 UTC Post #238914
no, they aren't. their multiplayer development is great. and i only talk about multiplayer because i consider both cod2 and cod4 primarily multiplayer games.

@99: french people suck!
