I was just wondering if anyone here played halflife dm at all anymore. I know I hardly ever do because I have source dod, condition zero, orange box and all kinds of new games. If anyone has a hl server, if you want ill make a map for it. You can even help choose the theme!

I still play HLDM now and then. I can even host a HLDM server if someone asks me to host one. So...

I think Pepper is with me on this.

I know Trooperdx3117 does, and I would, if I had the CD Key for Half-Life.

I still play it. At least when there's people who are willing to play with me.

I would like to, but I hate Sev's mod with a fervid passion and its all servers seem to host anymore.
Nobody plays vanilla HLDM these days. After 10 years I guess its not surprising, but it still sucks.

How much does it cost to host a server?

A 12-player, 6-month HLDM server with Nuclear Fallout will run you $163.75. from my experience, Nuclearfallout is a good host with plenty of support and easy maintenance.

But if you can maintain one on your own machine, I'd say its always better to just go with a dedicated server.

I loved our TWHL HLDM sessions. Kinda miss 'em.

If you're thinking about hosting your own server, keep in mind you need a decent internet connection.

I have a good connection. That would be awesome if a few of us made some really good dm maps and we could all get together a few times and play through em. Ill start on mine tonight, I planned a xen style map about a year ago but couldn't map the vm so im going to try and make it now.

Its not all about the connection either. Running a consistant dedicated server means that your machine can very rarely be under load, because the mroe stress your machine is under, the worse your clients' connections will be. Setting your server to high priority should keep things in check, but if you have a low/mid range computer, simply running the server might affect performance of the rest of your PC.

I probably made it sound worse than it can really be. I ran a few dedicated servers adding up to a grand total of around 5 years before co-owing a NuclearFallout server and never had many problems. Its just something to be aware of.

but couldn't I just create a server and some people join it and play for a while and than when were done just quit playing hl and the server shut down.

I stopped playing when my favorite servers ran out of players.
But I'll join if someone want to host a game with some TWHL dudes!

I think I might make a new map aswell, just for the hell of it!

I haven't mapped for HL1 in ages and I'm no good at source yet, so this should be intresting!

I'd say we should arrange a TWHLHL1DM gamenight with Muzz sometime, just for ol' times sake.

Well when im done with my map we should all play it. Its turning out awesome so far.

Well the reason I don't play halflife at all is because all of the maps are so boring and overplayed. The only map I enjoy at all is boot camp and maybe crossfire but ive played them a jillion times. So im makin a new map. I can,t promise players but atleast some of of twhlers ll prolly play together a few times.
