Tito: Relevant (IE User)
Your way wrong on that one, bud. I routinely run both Internet Explorer & Firefox, I use whatever works for whatever I want to use. But I still like that picture you linked to, I think I will save it to my Pictures folder. Anyway, I don't take part in this battle-of-the-browsers fanboy mentality.

And coming back again to my site's source code, I will repeat it again, strict validation is way overrated, very few care for it, and even less ever notice it. Man!........Whatever happened to judging a website for what it is about, rather than for what's the source code like?

I judge a website for how it will be experienced by its users over a variety of platforms and user agents :) . You seem to have completely missed my point about the W3 accessibility recommendations (3.), which in my opinion is the most solid reason for using semantic, well-formed markup.

If it wasn't for people like you, there would be many more - and better - browsers today and it would also be a lot easier and faster to develop web sites.
Today's browsers must be made idiot proof, thanks to idiots (Microsoft, Tito, etc.) that don't follow the standards.
If you don't follow the standards you slow down the development of the internet, you slow down internet browsers and computers, and are to be considered an enemy of the internet, computers and of the future of humans.

Indirectly this is causing computers to need more power, better motherboards and CPUs and more RAM thanks to you, which means they cost more. At the same time as you are slowing down my internet browser you are also denying poor people one way of educating themselves.

When you mess up your code you are also messing up everyone else's internet.

That doesn't mean I have anything against you tho. I just think that it is very ignorant not to follow the standards.

Wow, putting me along side the mighty Microsoft, I think you are overreacting, My bank account and salary is not up to Microsoft's standards.

Anyway, that part you said about, quote: "If it wasn't for people like you, there would be many more - and better - browsers today and it would also be a lot easier and faster to develop web sites" is way, way, way off the mark! Think about it....It's bad enough to worry about the few browsers out there now and each of their individual ways of rendering web pages, when coding HTML. Now, you want to add "many more and better browsers" to the mix? Do you actually believe any more new browsers wont bring with them more non-standard ways of rendering web pages? Something does not add up here.

And what's this thing about not following standards is indirectly causing computers to need more power? You know what, I am not even going there, my patience is getting thin. Really Potatis_invalid, this is starting to sound like it's being made up as you go. One more thing..........You were out of line with that "idiot" remark, I don't recall ever throwing insults at you, especially over something as dumb as this. The least you can do is return the favor.
Posted 16 years ago2008-08-24 06:47:40 UTC Post #254446
potatis, you need to chill the fuck out yo.

Everything would be much easier if everyone followed web standards. That goes for both browsers and web developers. It would indeed cut development times for new websites as well as new browsers. The web would likely be a bigger place where creating content was easier.

Apologies accepted. And if I did go overboard on anything myself, apologies offered. As for your point, that would be the case, but only if we all lived in an ideal world. As long as there are big money corporations elbowing each other for the biggest piece of the internet market, that ideal world will not happen.

There's just too much money and power at stake for the big guys to leave it at the hands of the people who want cooperation across the many diverse, technology platforms of the internet. There's always that someone who does not like to share and wants to control everything. That's why you will never see no web browser out there with full conformity to the established web development standards, it's not in their financial interests.

The companies behind these web browsers want to push their own idea or thing, which they obviously own and control, and try to make them the new web standard. They all have invested, financial interests that fit right along with their own agendas, which dose not necessarily include adherence to the current web standards.

Not sure what fairy tale you just got done reading (The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe?) but that's impossible. Unless at birth everyone, including animals, got a lobotomy.

You can't just change nature and instincts. What you just said is down right ridiculous.

You deserve a good beating to get such nonsense out of your head.

And this is all very relevant to mapping sites, I might add.

Posted 16 years ago2008-08-24 17:10:43 UTC Post #254490
Tito, your post illustrates a point against absolute browser conformity, but it is not an argument against site validity. Sure, there will never be a browser that conforms fully and only to the standards, because of old methods still being used. Of course the developers will want backwards compatibility.
This, however, is not an argument against using standards for web development. I mean, in all earnest, there's no reason not to follow standards - after all, they're put in place to create the optimal experience for as large an audience as possible.

Regarding the (apparently parallel) discussion about an ideal world, the term "ideal" is highly subjective and will probably differ greatly from person to person. As such, it is fairly unattainable.
Besides, animals are tasty.
Posted 16 years ago2008-08-24 17:16:28 UTC Post #254491
People will always hate other people.

Therefore, people will always want to fight otherpeople

therefore world peace is impossible.

You get maniacs who just kill for fun etc out of no real reason. That's not peace if people are still getting murdered.

Also ZL is right, animals taste fucking brilliant. I had chicken today.

I don't get vegetarianism. We, as humans, evolved to eat other animals. As long as they're humanely killed, there should be no moral reason not to eat them. They're probably not (I'm at least 1% sure of this) self aware anyway, so they probably won't care about dying, other than their instinctive urge to survive.
There's also the fact that, being alive, they'll die at some point anyway (that point most likely being near the end of their life :D), so we may as well make sure that they'll die before they get old and the meat on there bones is lost.

Plus there's also the fact that they're tasty.
