Ok I downloaded Ati Catalyst 8.9 , which says it has OpenGL support . Fucking nooo ?! I installed it and hammer 3.5 still doesn't let me to select in the 3D view . Oh my god , time expires and I can't enter the compo ....

Does anybody know a good solution ? Maybe somebody is modifying these drivers to work with openGL application . In this case , do you know any up-to-date site that releases modified drivers ?

Do a thing. Select 2D view on 3D view
then select 3D view.

Because I can't see in 3D view when I open Hammer 4.0. I change it to 2D view, then I turn on it to 3D and it works perfect

Spike, you're talking about a bug in Hammer 4. That bug is absent in 3.4/5.

As for the problem, thats very strange, i don't get it too. :/
Thanks to ATI for making such a mess.

And , errrr , I can't place entities .... and I have 4 configs : Hl1 , cs 1.6 , sven coop and sohl .... either of those configs won't let me place entities ...

Ok .... I'm gonna cry

I can change my card to the old nvidia , but I'm Grid addicted :zomg:

just fix the fucking problem... if you're the only one on the internet means that it's your PC problem, not the card
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-19 16:41:14 UTC Post #255691
I can use hammer 4.1 . That works .
My PC doesn't need any fixes at the moment . I performed 3 consecutive reinstallations a month ago . I'm protected and all that kind of stuff.

How can I fix the fucking problem if that's what I've been doing for the past 2 months .

[EDIT]

I thought somebody more experienced could not neccesary offer me a solution , but at least explain me in depth what's the actual problem .
Somebody like penguinboy , he's talented at coding and that stuff.
Or Luke , he's a troll . Trolls always know all .
Don't think I'm screaming for help. I know I made about 2 threads about this in the past , but on other non-mappingHL forums nobody will respond to me .

I don't understand why are you mapping for Hl1 having the graphics card you have.
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-19 17:23:51 UTC Post #255694
Half-Life 2 is also old, Spike. It doesn't matter how old a game is - it can still be fun.

Oh and this is the reason I buy Nvidia cards - they always work.
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-19 17:23:57 UTC Post #255695
yes I know it's old, but nobody plays Hl1 now, so mapping for it isn't a good choice. Only Goldsource game really played is CS 1.6

I still play Natural Selection when I can

Is it a multiplayer game?

I won't play custom HL1 maps anymore, I enjoy source games, I like HL1 but now... it's old. Doesn't mean I'm not going to play Hl1 anymore, but I'm not going to get into the HL1 world, so no custom maps.

The actual problem could also be coming if you are using Vista. Vista dropped a lot of OpenGL functionality because Microsoft are bitches and want the entire 3D market to use DirectX. It seems that AMD are following their lead, and also being bitches - but Nvidia is not.

Here are your options:

Get XP (if you haven't got it already)
Buy an Nvidia card.

Too bad if you don't like either of these options. You might also like to try VMWare or whatever it is, and run a virtual copy of XP in Vista, and then try running hammer in that virtual XP.

Other than that I can't help you, because you didn't take my advice in the first place to buy an Nvidia card. Next time, listen to the people that you think are "more experienced".

A graphics card not supporting OpenGL is a graphics card not worth buying.
By buying an ATI card you are supporting Microsoft's monopoly.

ATI supports OpenGL
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-19 18:49:51 UTC Post #255715
I will .
Unfortunately , the man who said this was extremely right : People learn from mistakes . The video card is good . The only problem was that an 9800 gtx ( or what nvidia card I don't know ) equal nvidia card cost 2 times more than one Ati . And because I'm young and didn't realise about marketing competition , I didn't have patience and bought Ati . Otherwise I would have bought Nvidia . I like Nvidia personally and I had some fears that ati is shit from the beginning . Now an Nvidia costs very low .
I'm already thinking of selling this card an buying an NVIDIA card , but my parents would murder me if I tell them this video card is bad ( I have to say , we have a low family budget sooooooooo................that explains all + that I had to wait 1 year for this video card )

The interesting fact is that "experienced" people recommended me this video card . It's true , they've never heard of VHE ....

I have XP . I will never install Vista , though ...

Methods I tried so far :

Putting an old Ati DLL in the VHE directory
Installing an old driver
Disabling the video card's driver while using VHE ( poor performance)
Buying a new video card ( fail - no money )
Entered and re-entered VHE over 100 times
Trying to work with it as it is - mission impossible 3.5
Trying to make hl1 maps in hammer 4.1 because I saw it opens rmf - mission impossible 4.1
Staying up-to-date with the drivers , maybe one month these fucking bastards will do something with this issue

Methods I didn't try :
Putting the old Nvidia card back - mission impossible -> Grid Addicted
Installing modified drivers -> I didn't see at least one until now to be up-to-date
Trying to code something by myself ( in 100 years , maybe ....)
Trying to melt down my video card with matches
Trying to freeze my video card with cold nitrogen
Trying to axe some questions to my video card
Knife to meet it

Spike ATI does NOT support OpenGL.
With Nvidia everything just works (yes, I know that's exactly what Mac users say about Macs and sound like idiots).
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-19 19:01:52 UTC Post #255717
And you all expect a 2 months all graphics card to support a program made 10 years ago

How do you explain I run Hammer 4.0 (and you too), and XSI which uses OpenGL, without any problem?

Everything is fine except a 10 year old program, then ATI sucks for "not" supporting OpenGL (which it does). Your arguments aren't strong.

Have you ever tryed to forcing the card to run Hammer 3.5 on 3D Mode?
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-19 19:04:30 UTC Post #255718
They shouldn't start selling the card before they know it works like it should.

OpenGL? 3.0 support - Phase 1
This release of Catalyst? introduces OpenGL? 3.0 extension support. In upcoming Catalyst? releases AMD will continue to expand its support for OpenGL 3.0 extensions. The following is a list of supported extensions in Catalyst 8.9:

? ARB_half_float_pixel

? ARB_draw_instanced

? ARB_instanced_arrays

? EXT_texture_compression_3dc

? EXT_texture_compression_rgtc

? EXT_texture_compression_latc

? EXT_texture_shared_exponent

? EXT_depth_buffer_float

? EXT_gpu_shader4

? ARB_map_buffer_range

Released 3 or 4 days ago. Since then I haven't had any XSI FPS drop, it's completely smooth. So yes, it does!
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-19 19:12:33 UTC Post #255720
It doesn't fully support it.
A few days ago I read a blog by a person working with developing ATI drivers, and he stated that right now you SHOULDN'T buy an ATI card - because they don't work well with OpenGL.

That's all I have to say.

Is it better to waste the money on 9800 for example? Or GTX280? NO
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-19 20:17:37 UTC Post #255722
I run an ATI Radeon x1950 pro on my main computer and everything works as it should.

I run an ATI Radeon 9600 series on my secondary computer, and I cant select stuff in hammer 3d, plus I get intermittent OpenGL problems.

Depends on the card i guess.

And its OK if others use them, but NVIDIA cards have screwed me over so many countless times I refuse to buy them, that's just my opinion.
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-19 20:18:45 UTC Post #255723
Buy an old computer specifically for HL1 mapping. No joke, it will make your life infinitely easier.
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-19 20:21:38 UTC Post #255724
Eh, my main gaming/mapping computer, the one with the x1950 pro runs source mapping, goldsource mapping, all flawlessly.

OK, i might be old fashioned for sticking with my x1950 and my XP, but i don't have anywhere near the problems a lot of other people have, so as far as I'm concerned i made the right decisions.
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-19 20:24:42 UTC Post #255725
I mean if you're planning on going with the flow of technology and you still want to map for Goldsource, you'll have to eventually either do this, dual boot to XP, or something else.
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-19 20:32:52 UTC Post #255726
Well i definatley don't want to stick with goldsource mapping! I'm just using it because its a little easier to work with than source. but ill make the full transition once i finish my current goldsource projects.

Ima stick with XP though until theres something out there thats at least better than vista.

I have a little question here: Is OpenGL still being updated on a regular basis? The reason I ask, is because according to the official OpenGL website, the last revision (update) was on August 2, 2006.

The specs for OpenGL 3 were announced recently. So, yes. A quick wiki search could have told you that.

I have an nVidia card, and the driver crashes HL2 occasionally.

It is the latest driver. When I updated the driver, I was hoping that the problem would be resolved. It hasn't.

It crashes at random spots. The game would just freeze, and I had to reboot to get my computer going again.

I never had such problem with my older ATI 9800 Radeon Pro.

Report it to ATI, ATI will never fix it if they don't know the problem exist. Since it has worked in older drivers(7.10 was the latest version that worked if i remember correctly) so it shouldn't be too hard for them to fix it.
