Bioshock it is then...

Yeah, seen that ages ago... hopefully looks better then the current bioshock but still has the good storyline. Thats a big problem these days, you get really good looking games that fall limp with no decent background and then really good games that look average but play great, like Dark Sector, little game with almost no advertising, graphics are better than average but not great but the gameplay is incredible and really fun. These titles are usually made by new developers

I always find that a dumb thing to say. Because, you know, if they were, they wouldn't be called "Half-Life 2: Episode 1" etc.

They've said they practically think of them as Half-Life 3, because it's the very next story arc.

We won't be seeing the actual Half-Life 3 for like a decade, knowing Valve.

Makes sense though.. I don't understand why the episodes... why not just wait until all the episodes are complete, then release them as Half-Life 3..
I dont understand.

play through an episode with the developer commentary and you'll know.

With episodic content, not only can they bring the next few chapters in the story to players more quickly, but they can also update the source engine to keep up with advancing technology and implement it into the next episode without having to affect what has already been released.

Umm ok if you really want me to act like a nerd.

That was a quote from the old film series which YOU love so much. Here are a few references:

"In Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Force choke, known as Force Grip can be used to strangle victims."

http://www.icanhasforce.com/tag/force-choke/ - Pictures.

Also it's used in the latest game: "And yes, of course, that means you?ll be able to Force-choke a Wookiee." - http://geeksofdoom.com/2008/06/10/force-choke-a-wookie-as-darth-vader-in-star-wars-the-force-unleashed/

So is that enough, you, who puts down everyone for a cheap laugh?

So you're excited about it? Did you play Crysis? I know different companies etc.

Anyway I'm installing it right now despite mocking it because I want to give it a chance. FC 1's story did not pull me in so maybe this will and Crysis' gameplay felt clunky.

I'll tell you how it goes if you're interested. Perhaps you might reconsider :P

I don't really have a good computer for gaming (one of the reasons I've never mapped for Source), so I never got to play Crysis. I'll be annoyed, of course, if FC2 turns out to be bad, but at least it'll be something new to play. The game I got most recently was TES: Oblivion, and I'm near enough to completing that fully.

I'm very disappointed with Ubisoft. Assassins Creed sucked, and the graphics sucked too. Also knowing Ubisoft, Far Cry 2 graphics won't look as good as the trailers. Not as Crysis did, which actually the game looks a lot better ingame than in the trailers.
Posted 16 years ago2008-10-23 17:49:53 UTC Post #257571
Well I played it for 30 mins. Lets see. I could get settings on high but ultra doesn't lag, it just makes my mouse moving lag which is annoying.

The first car I used felt more like a box with thrusters ;D But I like how I can actually survive now, I went all nuts with rockets and grenades and rushing in. Much more fun that way.

Story is not bad actually, with FC 1, oh no I'm on an island with monsters FC 2 has some nice background behind it and I can actually feel for the characters now. It's got a sort of GTA / RPG element where you can make friends and own houses which can be upgraded etc.

Not bad, I shall play some more when I get the chance.

Actually I must add the annoying thing is enemies take loads of bullets to kill. And a shot to the head just makes them go owwww.

Although Assassin's Creed got quite boring after 2-3 hours - the gameplay was repetitive - and the story was just a random mess of historical events and fiction, the atmosphere, mood and music of the game was just awesome. And it wasn't ugly at all.

Crysis is pretty, but isn't that much an "open-world" game, as it was advertised to be. The gameplay got repetitive fast, and the story was incredibly shallow and boring. A game with great graphics, and highly interactive environment, but lacking a good story, something to draw the player into the whole experience. Just like a hollywood movie with awesome special effects and an assload of CG, but poor story. I also played through Crysis: Warhead, hoping, that Crytek learned from the flaws of Crysis - but I was disappointed to see, that it has only gotten shorter without making the plot more interesting. Just another unnecessary sequel milking a title.

On the other hand, I just started playing Far Cry 2, and with 1,5 hours in, it looks much like what Crysis should have been. You can choose, in which order you complete your missions, or if you don't feel like advancing, you can just simply go and cruise or run around, and explore the environment.

I agree, it isn't as good-looking as Crysis with everything up on max, but I don't have a rig to run it on the highest settings, and I can tell you, it looks and runs way better with medium/high settings, than Crysis did on my config.

It did get repetative, but it's a good one to pick up now and again and just really enjoy the free-form style of the rooftop sprinting.

Okay, i just finished Dead Space in appox 10 hours spanned over three days and while the game is mostly unoriginal. IT IS FREAKING AWESOME!!!

The combat is so intense, after wrestling a huge creature biting my neck and managing to throw him off, I then find myself smashing my gun into his head, swearing my head off, and then when he is finally dead I continue to stomp him into the ground, abusing him.

The whole game is extremely well polished, even if it doesn't have anything new.

incidentally, pulling the conversation back to the argument about the half-life 2 episodes being half-life 3 for a moment (cause i couldn't find a conclusion)... :\

The way I see it is that the episodes are like the rest of half-life 2. Cause I used to play Serious Sam a lot, The First Encounter and The Second Encounter were two games that were really the 2 halves of the first Serious Sam. Same goes for half-life 2?... :|

Hardly anyone even knows the serious sam games, and most who do said it sucked... but I grew up with fps's. :D

But the old ones are better than the sequel! Try 'em again man, if you can get past that "old game" feel, they are shitloads of fun.

More ridiculous weapons, much more ridiculous enemy count. ;D

Serious Sam is awesome.
If you can't play the First Encounter, play the Second Encounter, it has three different worlds while the FE only has one world (Egypt).

You can enable built-in addons to make the look better.
