Hey guys. Been a while since I started one of these silly threads for no reason.

I was browsing youtube and came across something that really took me back to my teen / childhood years and it made me realise just how simple life was back then. It's incredible how far games have come and even though HL1 was out in 1998 it doesn't really take me back in the same way. One reason is that I still play it regularly. The main reason however is because it's soundtrack wasn't as memerable.

Here's what I mean. The following links are to game tracks that remind me of certain points in my life.

The first game I could play. I was 5 and this song still sticks in my head

First game I ever played on my PSOne on my birthday.

First game I ever got addicted too. Also the very song that was playing in the background when I asked a girl out that I liked. She said yes :)

Oddly enough, the song I had stuck in my head while on a 30 mile bicycle trip in the middle of summer. The surrounding fields were all dried out and golden.

There are loads more but I wanna hear some of yours. Maybe some of you are familiar with the ones above?

tl:dr? LIFE IS SHORT. MIDI ROCKS

tl:dr. Midi does rock.

No just kidding. I did read it all. My main source of music has always been game OST's and rarely some anime OST's like Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop.

I really can't think of many at the moment but as you linked, some FF7 songs were great, then there's Zelda OoT...I replayed that a week ago on an emulator for easy access (I have a whole bunch of collector editions and we all know there were LOADS of different OoT versions.)

I usually whistle along to a tune that takes me back so that's how I know.

I took that challenge and succeeded for 5 minutes and 32 seconds. I will say though that my lips are super dry.

I used to play Paperboy at the arcade in the mall.

...back in the summer of 1985.

The first game I played was this and it's very memorable and gives me a lot of memories with old friends. This sound theme is just so memorable .

Can't believe I nearly forgot that one. It played a major role in my childhood.

Duke Nukem 3D. Played the demo, Played the First Chapter when it came out with a magazine, played the entire game when my dad bought it.

Bought myself the Duke Nukem KILL-A-TON Edition Plutonium Pack: The original game, an extra chapter and a shit ton of expansion packs. (Nuclear Winter Xmas Pack, Duke it out in the Carribean, Duke it out in DC. and another crap load of 3rd party maps) It was an 18 rated box set the size of a PC Case. I got it when I was 7.

Doom, Doom 2, Quake and Quake 2 came and went. Half-Life came and has never left me.

Finally, got my hands on the level editor and built some incredibly basic rooms. This was around the time my bro-in-law was messing around with HL mapping. You can guess where I went from there. :)

After all these years, I still prefer the MIDI version of Megadeth

I think the first game I ever played was either Ocarina of Time or Sled Storm on the PS1, both at different friend's houses. Now I've ended up owning both.

Sled Storm really was an awesome game, but unfortunately the snowmobile racing genre never really seemed to catch on. It had pretty nice graphics considering its platform, and in fact I'd rank the visuals up there with Spyro for its well-executed approach to detail on a large scale.

The only songs I get nostalgic for were on the Game Boy Color like in Pokemon and Zelda, because for a long time that's all I had. Pokemon Silver was the first game I ever owned, and lemme tell you, for my eight year old mind that was just about the most immersive and realistic thing I could fathom. Frickin' MASSIVE world, it seemed.

Same as srry with the Gameboy Colour - that's all I had for a long time. Well, I had a Sega Master System, but the only decent game on that was the original Sonic the Hedgehog! I could never get very far, but my sister actually managed to finish it. (I did later but I cheated with and emulator with saves >_>)

But yeah I had Pokemon blue, and then Gold. Oh they were so very excellent. I didn't get into the Zeldas until the "Oracle" series for the GBC, but I was a fan after that.

Someone introduced me to the GBA and Advance Wars when I was in grade 8 or 9, and I had both not long after that (Advance Wars is a great series, btw)

Didn't get into PC gaming until grade 8, some of the first games I played included Half-Life, the quality of which stunned me.
Insert about 400 hours of counterstrike, and then enter TWHL.

So, yeah. Besides counterstrike, all the music of the games listed above make me feel all fuzzy inside.

My parents rented Super Metroid for me when I was very young. When I was older I bought it and played it with utter amazement. The soundtracks had been stuck in my head and the awesome memories I had of the game were brought back to life.

The Marathon trilogy, Pokemon blue, Mario bros/duck hunt, Skate or Die.

Good times.

I have played one Zelda game, the first I think. You go around with your sword and kill lots of enemies, I didn't like it.

My first game was Super Mario World, the second was either Super Metroid (probably) of one of the other SNES games. I was 3 when I played my first video game, so I don't really remember it that well.

The first game that I ever played was Mario Kart 64. We'd gone to a restaraunt in which the childrens play area consisted of a small playpen and a row of N64's and PS2's for the older children. I saw some friends playing battle mode on Blok Fort (I think that's the name of the map), and joined in after their round had finished. I loved the multiplayer in that game.

The very first game I played was Doom. (if you consider standing at the entrance and trying to shoot the door out, playing) I was 2 years old.

My dad taught me how to start it in DOS on my own.

I keep my childhood afloat by listening to a variety of VG Music, as well as some of the radio songs I;ve heard and managed to track down many years later.

First games I've played were on the atari which were Pacman, space invaders, centipede, and a few others. Then we got a Super nintendo, which then it was Super Mario World.

... why'd did I have to go down memory lane? Right now in the present, I'm about to lose my fuckin appartment! :furious:

My experience is something similiar, I can remember playing Quake DM with my dad ages ago. Either he was incredibly good at it, or I was typically bad, but it was still a blast.

I had the demo for months before i got the actual game.
I would play the demo over and over again.

The GOTY edition came with a bonus disc containing some other special type of gameplay.

You can have volatile ammo, so when shot it explodes, you have giant bastard swords, exploding sniper rifle ammmo, low-gravity
Wonderful game.

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is awesome, I had a special version of the demo, with more maps than the downloadable demo. Twisted Metal 2 is great fun too.
