well ive been trying to make a multisource door with two buttons, and i had alot of mess with it but i think i got it figured out now.

Anyways the PROBLEM is this:
"when i rename one entity then all the other entities also renames!!!!!!"
(quote from shoutbox i posted, im too tired to think myself right now)
the problem is that when i change some values on an entities (alt+enter) and then i want to change something on another entities (ALL ENTITIES, ive tried them all, also entities that have nothing todo with the original) then it seems like the values also changed for them!! this is driving me mad, its like all entities are one, and cant have diffrent values!
please help
i hope this is explaining enought ill go to bed now its very late ill answer tomorrow ask me questions if you didnt understand it! i really need your help!

thanks again

I've never experienced or heard of this problem before, but if it isn't just something you're doing wrong (really hard to pinpoint with the grammar in your post), I guess I'd have to assume it's some glitch that sprang up in Hammer, and I might suggest reinstalling it. You are using the latest version, 3.4/3.5, right?

Is it just the name of the entity you can't get to change, or is it any value in any entity? This really just sounds like a common user error more than anything, but your post doesn't give me enough detail to work with. You haven't even said if the problem is recent, or if it's always been like this. If I knew how long you had been mapping, I might also be able to rule out a simple judgment error as the cause, but right now that seems likely.

they are not grouped, and atm i got two fgds, is that possible?
since im making my map for sven coop and i found two different fgds in the svencoop folder (svencoop.fgd, and sven-coop.fgd)

i tried to update hammmer to 3.5 (before i had 3.4) it still doesnt help
it is any value in the entities i look at (the ones i never clicked at works)
well it all worked fine untill i tried to make this multisource door, before i had alot of doors and stuff that worked fine.

ive been mapping for hammer since sunday.

uhm it seems that it works now, after i sleept and i woke up again it seems to be allright (i also deleted the two buttons i think it was them who caused it. since i copied the original button to create the new one.)

now i got another problem, i cant find the prefab list!! please help it seems that the prefabs in the corner are blank (no text)
Posted 14 years ago2009-08-05 06:46:35 UTC Post #271466
OW GOD DAMNIT! IT STILL DOESNT WORK, ! i recreated the buttons with the prefab list and i tried to do the following:

"- Place one multisource and name it ms.
  • Have button1 target the multisource. There's no need to name the button.
Check that the Don't Move flag is checked and set delay before reset to -1.
-Type in the name of the multisource (ms) in the master property field of button2. No need to name this button.
Like button1, check Don't Move and also check the Toggle flag.
Have button2 target the door."

in the middle when i try to configure the button then it happends again, all the entities ink on each other and when i edit ones values then suddenly the others values are also edited!! so damn annoying i cant even make the simplest stuff with this!!

Triple post? Use the edit button FFS!

Also, this is a very strange problem, unlike anything I've ever experienced before myself.

Have you tried mapping for other games (HL1 or Counter Strike) to see if the problem still exists with their fgd's?

Try to not be as lazy. Try creating the buttons from scratch. Or just try to delete one of your FGD's (delete, or move, the smaller one.)
But i do say i've never head of this before..

And do try to #1) have patience with the forums, and #2) find and use the edit button

We can only do so much from across a computer monitor.

You should use one FGD. Goto the official Sven-Coop site and look for the latest FGD for your version of SC and use that in Hammer.

I downloading Sven-Coop now so I can take a good look at the entities (The entitys get shagged in Hammer if I open it with the Half-Life setup) but if you get the same problem when mapping for other games as well then I'm guessing that either:

A)You're doing something that you haven't told us about

or

B)Your PC has issues with Hammer.

it could be both a and b
im running hammer with wine that could be a problem, but it could also be that i accidently gave the same name to two entities, and btw you dont need sven-coop to try the map, the only diffrence between sven coop and half life is multible spawn points.

about the fgd i allready removed the old one (svencoop.fgd) and used the new one sven-coop.fgd

Is that your only computer? Or could you start another partition with a windows install or another linux distro? I heard wine gets finiky with some versions.... and programs.
This very-well could be a linux related issue.
