If you've been to the Steam forums lately, you probably know about this.
Vote for Freeman as the "all time greatest video game hero"
He's in the final 4 now after beating Snake two tiers ago by the skin of his teeth with a difference of 130 votes out of ~126000.
Now Freeman's against Link, and the votes are neck and neck, so Freeman needs all the votes he can get.

Yeah it's ridiculous, but it's all good fun and Freeman actually stands a chance of being in the final tier against Mario(who is against Samus now, but will undoubtedly come out on top, and probably win the whole thing... again).

Man, it's amazing how Nintendo dominates the whole standings board with their characters! I think Freeman will beat Link, by a hair. But once Freeman goes up against Mario, Nintendo's plumber takes it. But we will see, you just never know what could happen........

I would have voted for Snake if he was the other option. He's a way better character than Gordon, mostly because Gordon doesn't have character. He's a means by which the developers sought to enhance the immersion and atmosphere of the game, by removing his perceived presence as much as possible so the player would feel more directly involved. he isn't supposed to have personality, and I almost think he doesn't count because his existence is kind of a moot point. If he was named Scott Avalanche and went to Caltech instead of MIT, nobody would care.

You can thank /b/ for that, actually. Apparently they were trying to get Bub and Bob to the finals, but Gamespot caught on and deleted 30000 "fraud votes" so they lost.

I would much rather have Gordon win than Mario, though. Mario is a detestable character IMO. All he ever does is hop around.

When you have a character like Mario who's been around since before a lot of you here were even born, and who is also the main mascot of the mighty Nintendo, who by the way is the oldest/active game console company in the world, not to mention it also has the top selling console of this generation, does it really surprise anyone that plumber boy Mario would be the top dog in the video game world? Here, let's do a quick compare between Valve and Nintendo:

Valve - Annual Revenues: $10.5 Million, Employees: 50
Nintendo - Annual Revenues: $7.5 Billion, Employees: 3,586

The employee question is a little complex, but here's the thing:

According to Valve's Wiki page, these are the numbers it gives:
Employees - 190
Revenue - $70 million (2007)
(By the way, it still falls far short to Nintendo's massive "Microsoft like" amount$)

Now, here's the twist: The author that wrote the Valve Wiki page is counting the combined employees of Valve and all it's other game studios it had bought throughout the years, studios like Turtle Rock and Team Fortress Software. Also, the Wiki info is from 2007, making it at least two years old. For the record, the Valve website states they have "just over 160" people. But the problem with that info also, it's been there for a very long time unchanged, and it does not reflect the heavy layoffs that went on in the video game industry for the past 15 months or so due to the recession.

Hey, I love Freeman, its just that Link actually communicates with others, even if he doesn't talk very much, at least he uses body language, which is a step up from "No speech, no emotion" Freeman.

Freeman seems to always take the lead at night.

I'm sure it won't be long before it's #1. Damn, now that I look at the top 10 list carefully, Nintendo has grabbed 5 out of the top 10 spots! Heck, even the $89 Wii Fit board is in there at #7.

Link may not speak, but at least he uses body language, and actually reacts to events in the game. It's a step up from Freeman either way.

Freeman uses body language and facial expressions, you just can't see most of it. Stuff you can see involves tossing things and hurting people.

Once could assume he does, but it's just an assumption. There's no indicators or reactions from characters to bring it from beyond mere 'assuming' to actually knowing he does.

That's not to say I dislike him, I just think that Link is a little bit better.

Lets face it. Gordon doesn't need to speak, his crowbar does all the talking. I will admit that bashing in some poor headcrab or combine's face in was much more pleasurable with the physics system
