I expect this to be on Steam soon enough.

I'm not going to lie, with all the new crap Valve has been showing off (actual ingame features, that is), Left 4 Dead 2 is looking pretty fucking awesome-- A lot better than the original (though I still feel the original characters were leagues better than these new guys). I just wish I knew this was coming from the beginning. The only thing keeping me on the fence about buying it at this point is that I already spent $45 on the original.

Edit: And fuck, whatever happened to the L4D SDK anyway?!

I just read the OXM article about it, they got to play 2 of the campaigns.
There will be "uncommon common" which will be tougher than normal zombies themed per level. Like zombie clowns in the carnival level. Also spitter has a whale tail and tramp stamp. D=
One of the new "bosses" includes the Jockey who jumps on your head and steers you toward the other infected. Etc etc.

Yeah, there's common, uncommon (map-specific with special features), special (6 of them unless they reveal a 7th), and tank+witch.
Jockey should be fun in VS.

Also, Scavenge looks like a blast.

Man, L4D 2 looks pretty awesome. I particularly like the uncommon infected, such as the clowns, or those infected in the hazard suits. I may get this, depending on the pricing. If its too expensive, I'm gunna wait till it drops.

I won't be getting it until it's cheap ($20 or so) on Steam. It just doesn't have enough new material/gameplay for me to get excited.

I don't care what anybody says (outside TWHL) about L4D2, im excited about it and im getting it. In fact, it's already payed for. Free baseball bat for me!

Killing floor is cheaper, and it's basically the same thing. I downloaded it today ( free weekend) and it's cool.

Killing floor is cheaper in every way. Compared to the original L4D, it's pretty crap. L4D2 will hump it.

Uhhh, it's been released for about 4 months?

I really hate the two black characters (Its not racism, I swear!)

Other two seem pretty cool.

Actually there is enough new material in the game to make it pretty worth it. 3x as many weapons, a defibrillator, adrenaline pills, a new game mode, 3+ new boss infected, all new characters with their own personalities, 5 new campaigns. Also, the Deagle is making its appearance in this game too. Plus all the behind-the-scenes tweaks that you don't know about that will generally make the game much more enjoyable.

Also, the EP2 Gnome is making an appearance in the Carnival level, you can play the carnival games, and in the shooting game, if you get 750 pts, you win the gnome. Valve hinted at gnome-related achievements again.

Tl;dr: This game will be major win, I personally will be getting it.

I just found this video from the Hard Rain campaign. I didn't know anything about this campaign but it looks really, really cool.

Valve's putting Gnomes in? Looks like they're doing to Gnomes what Maxis does with Llamas.

Well, most critics complained about the lack of content in the first, so that's why they are beefing it up this time. I might get it, if it come retail though. I don't buy online.

I still have my doubts. It looks kinda fun, but the formula for L4D ran dry fairly quick for me.

I dont know how you guys can argue that L4D2 doesn't have enough gameplay to warrant a purchase; if anything I think L4D2 is what L4D should have been and if you like the first one you will probably like the second too. I agree that the formula for L4D got old pretty quickly, but the L4D2 gameplay mechanics seem a little more refined and deeper than just running from saferoom to saferoom and triggering a special event (with cinematic physics) once.

Mind you this is just judging from my experience with the demo...but still, if the two levels provided are any indication of the other 4 campaigns, it's going to be a blast, and totally worth it.

Plus you get the content authoring tools. There are TONS of add-on campaigns out there already for L4D, and you know people will make some for L4D2 as well. The ability to play any of the 1000's of custom campaigns significantly adds to the replay value of the game.

Yeah, I don't know about that Rabid.

The first game only worked (for the short while it did) because of it's simplicity. It just never received anything significantly new gameplay-wise to make it last longer.

Left 4 Dead 2 seems very much like the first game, with way too much of the same formula thrown in, instead of anything that's actually fresh. Killing zombies over and over again gets dull no matter how many ways they give you to do it. It needs new things to do primary to the zombie killing, rather than focusing on zombie killing with minor objective changes coming secondary.

I agree and I disagree with the authoring tools comment. Sure, there are loads of maps BUT most, if not all are crap. (Where's my sv_L4D_wetworks damnit!)

Only good ones are l4d_yama and Dead Before Dawn coming out on Sat.

Strider got it pretty much right. While there is lots of new content, killing zombies is killing zombies no matter what map you do it in. And killing zombies gets pretty boring after a while.

Make a mod that changes the zombies to xenomorphs. Then you get acid blood.

So with the demo being free to everyone for the remainder of the demo period, who's changed their minds about L4D2?

Had a run through, both censored and uncensored.

It's even more 'consolised' than the first, and the gore didn't actually make any difference to the amount of fun I had (which wasn't much). I'd go on but you'd all get sick of reading it.
