Windows 7 comes out officially in a few days.

Are you upgrading?

I bought it when Microsoft was offering it for $50 a few months ago.

I can upgrade, but im not really looking forward to it. I still want to map for GoldSource, and im affraid HL1 and Hammer wont run on 7. They both run perfectly fine on my current Vista system, and i've heard that if it runs on Vista, it'll run on 7 as well, so that at least there's still hope.

XP still works perfectly for me. I'm only upgrading once it becomes absolutely necessary.

I've already switched, and it's great.

These all work in 7 flawlessly except for the infamous 3D view bug where you can't select anything, but that goes for Vista and all new video cards as well.

Well, as far as i know, that bug only happens with Ati cards, and i have a NVidia card now. Can i consider myself lucky?

I have an Nvidia on Vista Ultimate and I have no trouble with Hammer. If fact, it's been quite stable for some time now. What's more, i'm sticking to this laptop for some time, don't fix what ain't broken.

Quake 2 does not run under Windows 7.

That's too bad. I still enjoy playing this game every now and then. It's great old-school fun.

I could play it with Vista, but no longer with Win 7.

Quake 2 is open source. I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least one version out there that didn't run on win7.

I got Windows 7 free, heh. Our section of the university has some agreement with Microsoft that gets us everything except Office. I now triple-boot my Macbook. It's a bit improvement on XP, but I do prefer OS X now.

My mate got Windows 7 Ultimate for free, from when it was distributed..... I don't know I can't remember what he said but he got it free legally, and he said he'll burn it for me if i chuck him a blank DVD so I'll upgrade when I get my new new rig
Posted 15 years ago2009-11-15 09:43:09 UTC Post #275674
Got it through the upgrade option since I purchased a new rig in August. W7 is a great improvement over Vista Ultimate for me; running on a 64-bit system, there were plenty of issues and crashes in Hammer on Vista which seem to be fixed now that I'm running on 7 (I can open the flags tab without Hammer crashing, hooray)

I'll get windows 7 when it comes preinstalled on my next laptop purchase, which won't be until laptops go quad core, or mine kicks the bucket, which I doubt will happen for some time.

I assume all of you already know that you can get Windows 7 for US$30 if you have an email account that ends with ".edu"?

I can barely remember 98 crashing at all.
That's because you only used it for 5 minutes.

Great Satch, where do I get me one of these nifty .edu accounts?

Oh, and Windows 98 crashes today even with all the latest updates installed. Basically for having too many things going on at once.

If you are a uni student, you should have an email address ending in ".edu".

I graduated from university in 1995, so I don't have one anymore.

I got someone with cracked win 7 ultimate on call, all I need is to say the word and I got it.

Still deciding whether its worth switching from XP.

I use XP. I'm just saying, I never had any problems with 98 when I had it on my home PC.

I use XP. I'll stick with XP, just remembering the cluster when Vista came out. Lord, that was awful.

I bet all the Vista buyers are feeling pretty stupid about now. Or maybe they enjoyed their OS's three-year lifespan.

It doesn't matter, it's totally irrelevant. This thread is about Windows 7, not pointless Mac-bashing.
Posted 15 years ago2009-11-16 03:25:29 UTC Post #275719
The fact you hate mac still isn't relevant, and the immature way you said it was the icing on the cake of minor fail.

I'm still kickin' round with XP, dunno if the 'rents will upgrade to 7. Probably not anytime soon.

Used to dual boot XP and Vista but that's been changed to XP and W7. So far so good, but been having these BSOD's that don't happen all the time, but occur when I boot from sleep mode.
