I know about animations pretty much i think (bones attaching to meshes, keyframes etc..)
look I would know how to compile model with this animation, my files included here. http://www.woofiles.com/dl-225856-VIpj1iKl-lion.rar
Import it in 3dsmax then export it like smds.
What i did: I exported reference model (meshes and bones). Then I exported 1 sequence (only moving bones (60fps)). Compiled it. But when I watched my model its totaly broken. Without animation(s) its OK.
I cant figure this out. :(
If i figure this i can convert wow models to hl :)

what kind of model is it? does it replace an existing model or is it like a prop.

Also, I can't open your file format, send me the SMD files and textures.

hl1 model. its normal model like monster_zombie.mdl

You must open it in 3ds max(if you have old FBX importer you cant open it : here is newest http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?siteID=123112&id=10775855 ). Here are smd's + bmp + qc http://www.woofiles.com/dl-225971-kGdtuBG0-lev.rar

EDIT: do you know how to transparent part of model? for example i want make tree but the tree texture isnt transparent. I indexed last color - black my background of texture is black in qc i added $rend...etc. "masked" then ? I compiled it and its still black :/

Joebama it wont change the model format lol.
I've done some stuff in 3DS Max too but haven't been to animation and importing into hl yet. This thread could be quite informative to me if its answered.

skals, i could make you a small tutorial on importing models from max to hl smd, plus all the stuff(compiler, qc file, plugins, etc) included in a pack for you if you want..

There are a shit-ton of tutorials on the subject available as well if i remember correctly.

As far as animations are concerned i'm totally illiterate, sawy.

for some people (especially WON versions), half life 1 does not support model transparencies. You need special versions of cg.dll or sw.dll or something not sure which ones exactly

(unfortunately for you I randomly decided to delete my copies of those files yesterday. Sorry man.)

He said he bought the game so he has steam or sierra. Most likely Steam, so don't think he needs won hl files.

Well, If you're running through WON, you'll need special DLL's. If you're running through Steam, then I don't know.

Make the object, export it to OBJ or 3DS, or anything milkshape can read, import it into milkshape, create the bones, assign vertices, apply textures. You now have a fully rigged and usable model.

Now you can animate it through milkshape 3D, any other method is the non-standard and in my opinion, incorrect way.

@skals: Quick and Dirty 3dsMax export/compiling to half-life.

NOTE: while putting this together, i found a KICK-ASS GoldSrc modeling tutorial for 3dsMax by Rimrook! Get it!

The WON .dll files are here: http://themightyatom.nl/downloads.html (Transparency dll's for WON Half-Life)
There are Steam versions there too, but the current version of Half-Life on Steam should already support it.

tschumann these files are too old for my version I cant run hl.exe with these downloaded hl.dll and sw.dll. I can see other trees in game are transparent but mine isnt maybe bad compiler? idk.

Crollo : milkshape is very weird programm i registered then it told me it's not registered...I cant work in it so i get 3ds max. btw i think its not a problem of export/import format...
Posted 13 years ago2011-02-04 08:16:36 UTC Post #290021
When you register Milkshape, it'll keep saying "Unregistered" until you restart the program.

What version are you using? Is it up to date?

Crollo : milkshape is very weird programm
Like it or not it's the only fully supported and official tool, and also the only tool you should ever use for the compilation of models for the goldsource engine. Making models in other programs is fine, making textures is fine, but the composition of half-life models should only be done in milkshape.
