Looks good, Joe, but i agree with Rimrook, overuse of caution stripes. Submerged.wad contains many trim textures that would make it look a lot better. You may have to use the Alt+rightclick method on all those sloped surfaces to allign the trims properly.

Yeah, the mountains look rather flat. You should carve them to be a bit slanted

I'm really not happy with the amount of space. I'm not too good at filling it and making it look not empty.

Also, is there ZHLT or something for source? If so is it any better?

No custom tools for Source yet; the L4D2 tools are the most up-to-date and fastest compiling tools that are available.

I think it just needs more detail. Specifically this screenshot - there needs to be some detail on the roofs I think (vents and such?), and along the buildings - bushes, trash bags, that kind of stuff.

IDK if there are any, but if there are, you should find some car models with open doors and put a couple in that line of stopped cars. That way it seems like everyone stopped there got out and ran in a real hurry, as if there were immediate danger. It's clear by they way you've placed them that they stopped fast, some slamming their brakes.

I'm glad you got rid of that water that used to be in the third shot. It was a nice touch, but looked SO blocky. Good call.

River looks really nice.

Know what the trailer park needs? Water spouts coming out of the ground maybe in pairs, and dumpsters. A dog house or two? Also, really nit-picking here, but black doesn't seem like the best choice for trailer's roofs, it seems like it would get hot like an oven in there under the sun.

lookin good.
Posted 13 years ago2011-02-10 14:54:28 UTC Post #290256
Oh, I know why the trailer's roofs are black. Its a lighting thing I need to fix. Also, I may destroy the road a bit to get some more variety.

The Park and downtown area isn't so bad, I've added street lights and such, and out in the rural area I need to add telephone poles and do the wires.

Ah, that makes sense. I wasn't sure if maybe you had brushworked a trailer or two up for variety. Although I don't know why I thought that seeing as you can model.

There were (called CST), but they were Source 2004 only and the author never updated the tools.

It should already, look for yourmap.log in the same folder where your .bsp file is created.

I miss a lot of things about goldsrc mapping(especially fast/easy texture lighting), but i sure don't all the limits and bugginess of hammer 3.x...

Workin on this bad boy for counterstrike condition zero. Will make it for cs as well. I was completely inspired by nipper's huhhh maps etc. and the idea of creating each room/ area with its own music to go with it which i've been wanting to do for some time now.

cscz? If there is several of these maps we can fit them into a CZ mission pack, and maybe hire TWHL members as teammate bots. If only there were more TWhl CSCZ maps.

Thanks. I've poked at it before but it takes forever to compile for source little alone load up half life two on my computer. I hope to get a better one eventually and begin with source. I actually bought my computer to map for source yet its still too slow.

I friggin love CS:CZ. I don't play it anymore but I spent like four years in an active clan. That shot looks delicious, you should take a couple more.

Lol thanks. Will do once I get more progress. Any of you ever play nipper's huhhh, gahhh, etc. maps? If so you'll have somewhat an Idea of where this is going. Thats right, really bizzare!

Edit: A few more shots of the area.

I envy Zeeba's imagination.

How did you even come up with such an environment?
Posted 13 years ago2011-03-02 00:56:55 UTC Post #290987
nice zeeba, reminds me of this for some reason. maybe you should give it a runthrough, i found the architecture to be quite an inspiration back when i played it all those years ago. then again times have changed and it could quite well look like ass. this is based on my memories. ;o

Oh yea i've played through that I always think back to how nice it was! His water looks like from source from what I remember and amazing vertical movenemt and vertex manipulation...

Thanks soup lol. Well the map will contain many random areas with different music correlating with each. For this "area" I imagined a tall walled narrow L shaped area with metal like looking walls and fans all over the walls. I also wanted it to look grown over. I may have been sub consciously inspired by Rimrook's human absence map I just recently checked out.

Than I mapped out the walls and playtested till I got the scale right and than began adding smaller than smaller detail and than textured it better and added the green dust and sounds. I make most maps like this. I also started with a few quick sketches. I finished this area in only three sittings and i'm pretty proud of it though it may not be as "weird" ad the rest of the map will be.

Btw soup you seem to be working on something quite sexy yourself! I like your vines and could have used them in this map.

Has anyone played the huhhh like maps by Nipper for cs1.6?

I know it's largely pointless and frowned upon to redo someone else's work, but i decided to clone nuketown. When blops first came out and my friends were still playing it everyday, i decided watching them it's one COD map i could most-likely reproduce.

As for a reason why? Idk, i guess i just go where my mapping inspiration takes me... If nothing else it's at least helping me cut my teeth for the source engine, finally..

I don't own blops, so everything is done from google images and what i can remember watching my friends play(and bitch about) nuketown. =)

(the c130 will be for care packages, though i have no idea how i'm gonna handle them yet..)

When finished, i'd like to release it for probably GG. I'd like to also do a night version, but i'm guessing lighting it would be a real bitch, as i'm struggling with lighting a day map properly... =(

The top of the chair in the middle, that triangle point there, you need to weld some vertices. What creates that faceted polygon is some vertices that are near each other but are not welded.
