Love the gears with the belt. The ambient light seems too dark compared to the skybox, and I think if you're keeping it that dark then the bright spots need to be more noticable. Increase the brightness of the lamp's textlight to really add an extra layer to this.
I'm assuming straight cliffs are temporary.

straight cliffs ARE temporary, and it's going to be a night-time map. i just havent set the skybox yet.
Thanks for the input huntey. the gears spin, and i added a ridable tracktrain

It is indeed, Tawnos. Used it in 2 of my previous Source releases, but this is its first appearance in Goldsource.

Looking pretty good, Four N Exclamation mark M Four T Zero R. Just a couple of things:

1. Definitely lacking trims. Nothing between the walls and floors, walls and ceilings or platforms and walls. No window frame either or frames around the elevators.

2. That smashed up monitor just looks weird. It'd never break like that. The frame, the glass and the innards would break independently and would be noticeably separate if it was strewn on the floor like that.

Looking good, though.

I will keep in mind thing about frames.
And that glass on ground is not monitor it is light cover, you can see that in this picture:

But on ground it looks different, I will try to do something about that.

Considering how terrible imageshack has become lately, could you guys do yourselves a favor and not upload there?

Me and Huntey both have our own paid hosting we upload our images to, but you don't need to pay for hosting, just use a half decent host, there are some good free ones.

Oh right, ok. Perhaps use a different texture then, seeing as you have the same style of glass colour + frame as your smashed up monitors in this shot.

I've been using imageshack for 4 years. Haven't had a problem since.
DiscoStu I don't know what's your technical problem, but have you tried using a proxy?

I'm not proxying all my traffic just to see pictures hosted at imageshack.
Posted 12 years ago2011-05-01 01:23:09 UTC Post #294108
Stu: Try and see what happens when you request a URL from imageshack using a tool like Fiddler. It is almost certainly a configuration issue with your network.
Penguinboy PenguinboyHaha, I died again!
Posted 12 years ago2011-05-01 02:43:34 UTC Post #294109
It's not a configuration problem. Imageshack actively blocks requests coming from my IP range.

Any and every request to an image hosted at imageshack server gets redirected to http://imageshack.us/img/blocked_login.jpg .

That means, that whenever someone posts a bunch of screenshots, I see a bunch of these:

@Stu: Your loss, then. Just register one with a throwaway email account and it might solve your issue. I don't think anybody is going to stop using Imageshack, so you really have nothing to lose.

Just register with DropBox or a similar server and start hosting your images on that. Best decision I've ever made.

There's always been a question gravitating in my mind: after storing so many images, having them linked to lots of sites, what if the imagehosting site goes bankrupt or the servers fail?

Imageshack does remove inactive uploads. There's plenty of old posts w/ broken images due to that.
Not much you can do about it though, no free host could afford to keep them on forever. And it's still way better than photobucket, etc.

I have images as old as 2008 uploaded there and they're still online.
The only regrettable thing about imageshack is that they aren't making an Europe server.

AFAIK, Imageshack doesn't delete images if you have an account. For non-account images, I think it deletes them if nobody accesses them after a year or so.

Little experimentation with lighting. I'm sure some already know how it's done but I'm probably going to make a tutorial for those who don't.

I i remember Doin that in source a while back, I used one big grate texture and a bunch of brushes with the Block_LIght texture, that was fun =D
brendanmint brendanmintBrendan
Posted 12 years ago2011-05-01 13:55:44 UTC Post #294126
Now with source you can just use any texture with an alpha mask, and put a projected texture behind it.
Gets the same result.

And that looks phenomenal dragos!
Good work!
You might be able to save on some compile time by nulling the back faces of that grate?
But i have no idea.

Actually it's very simple. All you need to do is export the original textures, scale them two or four times and then import again and lower the scale equally. The way it works is that the lightmap on which the light is projected becomes smaller so the shadows become sharper. But you can't use too much of this technique in your map because it eats enormous amounts of memory.

And as I said I'm planning to make a more detailed tutorial.
Posted 12 years ago2011-05-01 20:05:07 UTC Post #294132
Whoa thats amazing! Cant wait for the tutorial.
